The Lytic Cycle The Lytic Cycle is a local band out of Benwood, WV. They can be seen here jamming in what used to be a decent place to catch a sammich 20 years ago, but now is pretty much home to the Kazemka family junk pile. Frontman Johhny Cat is rumored to be the offspring of "Karl", but most agree that Karl is just an urban legand and write off John's deformed pinky as fetal alcohol syndrome.

The Lytic Cycle's new drummer Scott's been with us for a few months now and we thought we'd show a little of what he's been doing with the band. We didn't have the triggers hooked up the night we filmed it so you can't really hear the kick drums.

Bacteriophage lambda lysis and lysogeny Microscopic movie of E.coli infected with phage lambda. Infected cells turn green. One infected cell pops (ie, lysis). A second infected cell goes dormant (ie, lysogeny). Movie by Francois St-Pierre at MIT, as published in research paper PMID: 19098103.

Lytic Cycle Project This is the final project I did along with two of my friends for our Scientific Visualization class at Panther Creek High. This was our first real try with 3D animation, so it's not gonna be perfect. Music and such is in the credits if you want to know what it is. The Rick Roll at the end was for the class, since we often played the song whenever the teachers weren't around, lol.

"If I were a phage, they could choose whatever they like" Video Editing: Amisha and Navdeep Song: Amisha, Sam, Monica Weird dancing: Thomas Amisha Navdeep Sam Thomas Monica "If i were a phage, they could choose whatever they like" If i were a phage we use tail fibers to bind onto the specific receptor sites on the outer surface of an e. coli the sheath tail contracts injecting DNA into the cell and leaving an empty capsid outside (DNA's hydrolyzed) The DNA directs production of protiens and copies the genome by host enzymes 3 seperate steps of proteins self assemble to form phage heads and tails and dont forget the tail fibers the phage directs production of an enzyme that damages the bacterial cell wall, allowing fluid to enter The cell swells and finally bursts releasing 100 to 200 phage particles. and thats the lytic cycle of T4 Hey Ms. Slate, you know the old temperate phages, they use both the lytic and lysogenic cycle. lysogenic one choice lytic cycle the other and either cycle can be induced they could choose whatever they like (2x) yeah temperate phages differ twice the choice well teach you the cycles right here right now they could choose whatever they like 2x yeah anytime it wants to the phage DNA integrates you know it aint nothing into bacterial chromosomes .....my dear bacteria produces copying the prophage yeah they need the daughter cells transmit the daughter cells many cell divisions, produce large populations you want it i got go get it i bought it pf bacteria infected with prophage CHORUS sometimes the ...

Bacteriophage (Hybrid Medical Animation) T4 bacteriophages targeting E. coli bacteria. Bacteriophages are small viruses that infect bacteria and kill them by multiplying and essentially filling the bacterial cell to bursting.

Lytic Cycle- Bio I project This is a project for my Biology I class. (I TRIED to edit it lol I know...its my 1st one...hope you like it) The Lytic Cycle- aphage reproductive cycle that culminates in death of the host cell-is composed of 5 steps: 1. Attachement The T4 phage uses its tail fibers to bind to specific receptor sites on the outer surface of an E. coli cell. 2. Entry of Phage DNS and The seath of the tail contracts, injecting the Degradation of host DNA phage DNA into the cell and leaving an empty 3. Synthesis of Viral genomes The phage DNA directs production of phage proteins and and proteins copies of the phage genome by host enzymes, using components within the cell. 4. Assembly Three separate sets of proteins self-assemble to form phage heads, tails, and tail fibers. The phage genome is packaged inside the capsid as the head forms. 5. Release The phage directs production of an enzyme that damages the bacterial cell wall, allowing fluid to enter. The cell swells and finally burst, releasing 100 to 200 phage particles. At the end the whole process is repeated.

Don Ganem Part 1 Kaposis Sarcoma: The Disease In 1872, Moritz Kaposi first described a disease that included pigmented skin tumors and in some cases tumors of the viscera. While KS has been endemic in some areas of the world for many years, a highly aggressive and deadly form of the disease emerged concurrently with the HIV/AIDS epidemic. KS is a very unusual cancer including multiple cell types, including cells of a spindle morphology, in a single tumor. In this section of the talk, the atypical biology of this cancer it will be discussed. Epidemiological studies suggested that HIV was not the causative agent of KS. In the mid-1990s, a new human herpes virus, Kaposis sarcoma associated herpes virus (KSHV), was identified as the likely cause of KS. Development of a serological test for the presence of KSHV in patients showed that KS seroprevalence strikingly mirrored KS risk and, additionally, KS was never found in KSHV negative patients. This data strongly supported KSHV as the causative agent of KS. However, epidemiology also showed that additional cofactors are required for disease development and in the case of patients with AIDS, HIV is this cofactor. In this section of the lecture, we will look at which viral genes are expressed in KS and how they cause disease. KSHV has both a latent and lytic cycle. In the latency cycle, very few genes are expressed and no new virus is produced allowing the host cell to survive. In the lytic cycle, all open reading frames are expressed, new virus produced and the host cell ...

Dr. Vince Fischetti - Bacterial Biofilms & Phage Lytic Enzymes Dr. Fischetti studies how gram-positive bacteria interact with human tissues and cause disease. His lab produces lysins that kill major gram-positive pathogens — Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus anthracis. Using phage lytic enzymes as a tool, Dr. Fischettis lab has developed and patented methods of eradicating biofilms which contribute to chronic bacterial diseases. This is a 10 minute excerpt from a 45 minute interview. See our site for more interviews and transcript excerpts:
