Intractable Epilepsy: Temporal Lobectomy 2 After 11 years of massive seizures, Stella was finally diagnosed by neurologist Christianne Heck, MD, as a candidate for surgical solution, a temporal lobectomy to correct her intractable grand mal seizures. Her neurosurgeon, Charles Liu, MD, first had to pin point the location using cranial sub dural electrodes and a composite neuro navigation map of her temporal lobe. Pictures of Jeremy after Anterior temporal lobectomy I had an Anterior temporal Lobectomy on Friday May 30th 2008 due to intractable epilepsy and mesial temporal lobe sclerosis due to viral encephalitis at a yr old. After a quick 4 hr surgery and an excellent surgery I was out and doing good with no seizures reported like they had planned for, they had spoke with my parents and told them to expect the worse seizure ever about 30mins after my surgery was completed but here we were and nothing, no seizures, no aura's nothing. So everything was looking great. I'm proud to say that as of right now, on 1/25/2010 I have been seizure free since the surgery that was on May 30th 2008. Its been a blessings, it was a rough road n the beginning but its all been worth it every bit of it. "I mean what can I say SEIZURE FREE" Thank You Lord, and also thank you to all of the staff at MCG, Dr Mark Lee, (NeuroSurgeon) Dr Gregory Lee (neurophysiologists) and Dr Anthony Murro (Neuro -epitologist) and the people that have sent many blessings and prayers our way during this time.

The Posterior Approach VATS lobectomy has been criticised for requiring a fissure based technique but this video showed that it is not actually neccessary to address the fissure first in every case. Here the bronchus, artery then vein is addressed before the fissure.

Podcast: Temporal Lobectomy Epilepsy Surgery Temporal lobectomy, a surgical procedure that involves removing parts of the temporal lobe that cause seizures, is offering hope to epilepsy patients who have not been responsive to medical therapy. Neurologists and neurosurgeons at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center use electroencephalograms (EEG), positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the state-of-the-art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) to pinpoint the exact origin of the disease. Surgeons then remove the scarred tissue to reduce or eliminate the seizures. On Wednesday March 1 at 5 pm neurosurgeon Steven Glazier, MD will perform a temporal lobectomy during a live internet broadcast on...
