Neuro Exam ; Mental Status : Anatomy Parietal Lobes Parietal Lobes The parietal lobes are important for perception and interpretation of sensory information especially somatosensory information. The non-dominant parietal lobe is particularly important for visual-spatial function. The dominant parietal lobe is important for praxis, which is the formation of the idea of a complex purposeful motor act while the frontal lobes are important for the execution of the act. The Gerstmann syndrome, which consists of the constellation of acalculia, finger agnosia, right-left confusion and agraphia, occurs with damage to the dominant inferior parietal lobe. Clinical tests for parietal lobe function include tests for agnosia (such as inability to identify objects by tactile exploration), apraxia (inability to perform purposeful motor acts on command), constructional apraxia (inability to draw objects which require use of visual spatial organization) and testing for elements of Gerstmann's syndrome.
Bipasha got a ear lobe needles Bipasha Basu gets ear lobe needled. YesBips has just got a second piercing done, at the behest of her younger sister Vijayeta. The actress says, "I got my ears pierced on the upper lobes and I love my new piercing! I got inspired by my sister Vijayeta who came back from London with four piercing!" It seems initially, Bips was apprehensive but she went ahead with the procedure nevertheless and is happy with the result. Infact Bips is very scared of even injections and must say it was a brave and spontaneous decision for her.

Temporal Lobe Epilepsy/Seizures and Anxiety, Depression, Agoraphobia, Bipolar Here I am having a chat (to no one in particular!) about my struggles with Anxiety, Depression, Agoraphobia and Bipolar disorders which have stood in my way with being diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. My Temporal Lobe Epilepsy/Seizures aren't exactly typical and as my mood disorders, such as Anxiety, Depression and Agoraphobia has been more 'visible' to the Dr's I have just basically been told that I am nuts! I finally get to my point, in this blog - which is to be your biggest advocate. And how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy can be widely mis-diagnosed due to complications of mood, anxiety, depersonalization, derealization, depression and so on. I have also learnt how to 'handle' Neurologists and Drs. A positive EEG for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy was discredited as a 'mistake' due to the above reasons. It has taken a long time (12 years!) to finally see through the cracks, and receive appropriate treatment for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, which is happening now. So good luck to everyone out there who is still on their path of 'discovery'. These circumstances are specific to me - although I feel there has to be other people out there going through the same thing, as what I am speaking about is the general view of my Neuro, Shrink and GP. So get in touch if you want to swap stories!
Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, Complex Partial Seizures & Me! THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! Keep them coming! It took me 12 years to get diagnosed. For the last 5 years I have KNOWN I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (simple partial and complex partial seizures), although - as my symptoms have run closely with emotional disorders it has been a process of disproving that as a cause. I have also had 1 tonic colonic / grand mal seizure. It was actually two in a row. Anyhoodle .. a problem shared, is a problem halved, so if you would like to leave a comment, feel free. Here is some info from wiki, just in case you may be interested: 1. Simple Partial Seizures (SPS) involve small areas of the temporal lobe such as the amygdala or the hippocampus. The term "simple" means that consciousness is not altered. In temporal lobe epilepsy SPS usually only cause sensations. These sensations may be mnestic such as déjà vu (a feeling of familiarity), jamais vu (a feeling of unfamiliarity), a specific single or set of memories, or amnesia. The sensations may be auditory such as a sound or tune, gustatory such as a taste, or olfactory such as a smell that is not physically present. Sensations can also be visual, involve feelings on the skin or in the internal organs. The latter feelings may seem to move over the body. Psychic sensations can occur such as an out-of-body feeling. Dysphoric or euphoric feelings, fear, anger, and other sensations can also occur during SPS. Often, it is hard for persons with SPS of TLE to describe the feeling. SPS are often ...

The Milky Way's Mysterious Gamma Ray Lobes [720p] Using data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, scientists have recently discovered a gigantic, mysterious structure in our galaxy. This never-before-seen feature looks like a pair of bubbles extending above and below our galaxy's center. But these enormous gamma-ray emitting lobes aren't immediately visible in the Fermi all-sky map. However, by processing the data, a group of scientists was able to bring these unexpected structures into sharp relief. Each lobe is 25000 light-years tall and the whole structure may be only a few million years old. Within the bubbles, extremely energetic electrons are interacting with lower-energy light to create gamma rays, but right now, no one knows the source of these electrons. Are the bubbles remnants of a massive burst of star formation? Leftovers from an eruption by the supermassive black hole at our galaxy's center? Or or did these forces work in tandem to produce them? Scientists aren't sure yet, but the more they learn about this amazing structure, the better we'll understand the Milky Way. credit: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center source: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov

Frontal Lobe - Lobo Frontal -The frontal lobe is an area in the brain of mammals. It is located at the front of each cerebral hemisphere and positioned anterior to (in front of) the parietal lobes and above and anterior to the temporal lobes. It is separated from the parietal lobe by the primary motor cortex, which controls voluntary movements of specific body parts associated with the precentral gyrus. In humans, the frontal lobe reaches full maturity around age 25, marking the cognitive maturity associated with adulthood. Arthur Toga, UCLA, found increased myelin in the frontal lobe white matter of young adults compared to that of ***s. A typical onset of schizophrenia in early adult years correlates with poorly myelinated and thus inefficient connections between cells in the fore-brain. The frontal lobe contains most of the dopamine-sensitive neurons in the cerebral cortex. The dopamine system is associated with reward, attention, long-term memory, planning, and drive. Dopamine tends to limit and select sensory information arriving from the thalamus to the fore-brain. A report from the National Institute of Mental Health says a gene variant that reduces dopamine activity in the prefrontal cortex is related to poorer performance and inefficient functioning of that brain region during working memory tasks, and to slightly increased risk for schizophrenia. -Edson Zerati, MD -January, 2, 2010
