Lavender Provence In the early spring there's nothing more refreshing to me than to walk through a greenhouse like this and see so much potential growing. Just look at these gorgeous herbs. This greenhouse can hold between 40000 and 45000 of these plants. They are just getting ready to ship them out to your garden. Now what I love about this plant, which is lavender 'Provence', is that it has an incredible bloom on it. It typically blooms in the summer and 'Provence' for me performs best in really well drained soil. My garden soil is heavy clay so I amend the soil with lots of sand. The idea is to give the soil excellent drainage. Now if your garden has heavy clay and you don't have raised beds what you might try is growing 'Provence' in a container. I did this several years ago. I put 3 plants in a 24 inch terra cotta pot and they were gorgeous. As the plant grew together, which was up to about 24-inches tall it looked like one giant plant. Very dramatic. Now if you think lavender grown this way is a feast for the eyes, just wait until you smell the foliage. The foliage is so incredibly aromatic, but the blooms, well, they are just off the charts. Honeybees love them. They love the nectar. Lavender honey is very sought after. If you don't have room to plant all these lavender plants to create a beautiful field of lavender plants like we've seen in postcards of Provence, France, take a little Provence, France, place it on your patio by just planting three of these lavenders in a container ...

Eliza Carthy Band : Lavenders : Monto Water Rats 18 March 2010 The Eliza Carthy Band play Lavenders at the legendary Monto Water Rats in Grays Inn Road, London on 18 March 2010. Eliza and the band played a set that not only featured most of the superb, largely self-penned, Dreams of Breathing Underwater album (including the song featured here), but also played a handful of new songs, destined for the next album. If you haven't heard Dreams of Breathing Underwater, but like what you are hearing here, I suggest that you give it a go. I liked it so much I bought it twice! Thats not quite as crazy as it sounds though. I bought it on CD when it first came out in 2008 - and when it was re-mastered & re-issued on 180 gram vinyl with a bonus 7" single earlier this year I bought it again! The vinyl version is a thing of great beauty btw - so if you are a vinyl junkie, seek it out; it sounds amazing! Finally, with regards to this performance, special mention must go to the astonishing Barney Morse-Brown on cello - simply stunning! Barney also plays with Eliza in the Imagined Village project btw.
