Kidney Function The Kidneys are a bean shaped, fist size organ whose task is to filter blood and remove the waste. The blood enters the kidneys via the Renal Artery and leaves via the Renal Vein. Inside each kidney, blood is channeled into a million tiny filters, called a glomerulus (the plural is glomeruli). Glomeruli are joined to small tubes (tubules) to make nephrons and each nephron is surrounded be a network of capillaries. At the end of each nephron is the Glomerulus, contained in a cup-shaped Bowman's Capsule. It is here that urine is formed. Kidney function is divided into three parts: Filtration, Re-absorption & Secretion. In the course of the day 150 litres (33gallons) of filtrate passes into the nephrons - As the fluid passes along these tubes, small molecules such as fats, sugars, salts, amino-acids pass from the capillary into the tubules. Protein molecules, too large and hence are passed out into the blood. After Filtration the fluids of filtrates, is taken back into the blood stream (reabsorbed) which 100 times the average daily amount of urine. During Secretion hydrogen & Potassium ions are removed from the blood and added to the filtrates to be excreted as urine. Where it finally goes into the ureter and down into the bladder. The Kidneys, balance the fluid and chemical levels in the body. Retain valuable substances, release Hormones, control Blood Pressure, make red blood cells, and maintain healthy bones and teeth. Gallstones, Liver, Gallbladder, Kidney Cleanse Part 1 Welcome to Glytamins! Many health conditions can be traced back to improper function of the liver, gall bladder and kidneys. While liver bladder and kidney purges were commonly done in years past, it is fast becoming a lost art. Glytamins suppositories are designed to support the body in both the cleansing of these organs as well as their proper maintenance and regeneration. Gallstones, liver detox Gallstones Everyone develops small crystallizations in his or her kidneys and gallbladders. Some people have literally hundreds of stones that have accumulated in their bodies. In approximately 1 out of 4 people, these crystallizations eventually grow large enough to require medical attention. These crystallizations are typically accumulations of calcium, oxalic acid, uric acid and cholesterol. Glytamins may support the body in both dissolving these crystallizations and preventing the formation of new ones. Kidney Stones Kidney Stones While Glytamins is not specifically formulated to deal with an acute case of kidney stones, scientific literature shows that Chanca Piedra, (one of the main ingredients) has been used over time to support the dissolution of calcium oxalate and uric acid crystals, the main constituents of kidney stones

Diuretic action in the kidney The narrated movie takes the viewer from the human silhouette down subsequent levels of detail finally ending on the transporter proteins which are the direct targets of most diuretic drugs. The movie is intended to show the flow processes within the kidney including such aspects as filtration, reabsorption, and excretion in the nephron. It also shows the molecular sequence of ion transport, how the diuretics inhibit the reabsorption of sodium, and the subsequent effects on other ions reated by: Steven Barbera - Business/CommunicationsSteven Barbera Class of 2007 Business/Communications STA member since 2003 Dr. King - Biomedical and Pharmaceutical SciencesDr. Roberta King Assistant Professor of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences College of Pharmacy
Anatomy of a Kidney Anatomy of a Kidney This cross section of a kidney, almost three times life-size, shows its blood supply and one of the filter tubules, a nephron, highly magnified. The nephron is a highly specialized coiled tubule measuring up to one inch in length. There are more than one million nephrons in each kidney. They function as the kidney's filter units. The kidneys filter unwanted materials from the blood and regulate the levels of water and chemicals in the body. As blood flows through a glomerular tuft, a tight knot of blood capillaries from which water and chemicals filter into the nephrons, fluid is forced into the Bowman's capsule. The Bowman's capsule, the expanded beginning of the tubule, acts as the nephron's collecting cup for fluid filtering from the blood. The filtrate then flows along the coiled tubule. Further waste material is secreted directly into the nephron tubule. At the same time, reaabsorption of essential chemicals into the capillaries takes place. The loop of Henle, the central region of the nephron, acts as the primary reabsorption area. Urine, the yellowish liquid remaining, passes from the nephron-collecting ducts into the renal pelvis, which lies at the core of the kidney and acts as a funnel to conduct the liquid into the ureter. Through the ureters, the urine is conducted away from the kidney and emptied into the bladder The cortex, or the outer region of the kidney, houses the glomreulus of each nephron. The medulla, or the inner region of the ...
