Modified Fuji Circuit Joule Thief circuit lighting 40 watt tube with AA battery Here we are illuminating a 40 watt tube from a single AA battery. This is a modified version of Josepino's disposable camera circuit. I have used this same circuit to light 2 of these 48" tubes end to end. Super Bright Fluorescent Joule Thief NOTE:: the frequency noise is only picked up by the camera. it doesnt actually squeal like that audibly. alot of people have made some cool portable fluoro lights on youtube but none of them were bright enough for me. "boomerman2004" has made a great instructable on how to do this at s821 i basically did the same thing and took cheap camera circuits and gutted them, but used 3.6 cell phone and cordless phone batteries as inputs. one of them is actually one of the battery cells that make up a laptop battery. each put out around 4v at good current. the problem is leaving the lights on for too long will burn out the transformer. i added a 25 ohm rheo on the green box so i can leave it on for however long i want, just at a low brightness. i wasnt satisfied with the light a single AA puts out, and i like the rechargeability of these battery packs. they charge super fast and will last like almost forever in these circuits. i will definitely be using these next time the power goes out. room to room portability is what makes it ideal. u could also create an inverter for a car battery that will run much bigger fluoros during outages. the pope is a faggot and im going to spinkick that fool in his big ass head ay seriously tho if u like the pope u need to sit on a pinecone and twirl true story
Joule Thief LED Flashlight (Free Light) This is a Joule Thief Flashlight. I simply modified a cheap 5 super bright LED flashlight that ran on 3 AA batteries by gutting it and using a simple Joule thief circuit which now runs on 1 AA battery. This circuit uses a 2N3904 transistor, a 1K resistor, 1" ferrite toroid, and 22 gauge bifilar wire windings. The components cost less than $3.00. This is easy to do and it is a fun project for everyone. This light will run on "dead" batteries. Most devices will stop operating when the 1.5 volt battery gets down to about 1.2 volts or so. This JT circuit will take that dead battery down to about .3 volts. This video was filmed using a "dead" battery. I get them for free from my friends and this way, I get to use all of the energy in the battery before we toss it out. The light will work for many, many hours on a dead battery. South Africa's 'Joule' Electric Car, launched October 2008 Electric cars are surely the way forward and South Africa is taking up the challenge with it's 'Joule' electric vehicle. The car is being built by Optimal Energy, with support from the South African government. The project is headed by leading scientists and engineers, some of whom built SALT - SA's innovative Large Telescope, and before that the incredible Rooivalk attack helicopter. The car has been designed by Keith Helfet, another South African who designed the Jaguar XJ220. Available by end of 2012.

Joule Thief Pirate Light This is a simple light fixture made using a modified Fuji circuit Joule Thief and a disposable plastic food container. It lights up an 18" tube pretty well and this is very easy to read by. It throws light 360 degrees around the room and works well. I was planning on using another Jeanna light circuit I made but I must have a short somewhere so I stuck in the Fuji. I will use the new circuit on another light project when I get it fixed. Joule Thief (Finding Resonance) 014 I have wound another much Larger Bifilar Coil and was surprised that it still worked on Low and High Voltage. It appears that this technology is completely Coil dependent. Coil: 45 Bifilar Turns 0.5mm Wire I am using my Signal Generator to pulse the coil to find the frequencies it like. I am then going to feed that frequency Back into the Joule Thief to see if we get a more efficient amplification effect. Enjoy... Joule thief #1 This is my first joule thief video. It shows that a small switching diode or zener diode can be used instead of the resistor. And a to126 package NPN transistor works as well.
Twist Tie Wire Joule Thief.ASF This shows a Joule Thief inductor coil made out of just plastic coated steel twist tie wire. There is no ferrite toroid core used to make the inductor in this video but one could be used. I also show a Slayer Exciter hooked up to the circuit. The device is running on one AA battery at less than 20mA. The spools of wire can be found in gardening or hardware stores and is very inexpensive. It would only be appropriate for some circuits because it is magnetic and does not conduct electricity as well as copper wire.

Earth Battery Joule Thief LEDs Experiments This is my new and improved earth battery running 4 ultra bright 10mm 28000 MCD LEDs. I am using a standard Joule Thief circuit wound (bifilar) on a ferrite toroid this time. An N3904 transistor, 1k resistor and a 2.3 volt, 10 Farad super capacitor. The earth battery is putting enough out now to not only run these leds, but also charge the cap as you will see when I disconnect it and bring it inside. I can run more. Joule Ringer! Light keeps going without battery. This is the first time I have been able to keep a Joule Thief type device running a CFL on just an electrolytic capacitor.
Simple Joule Thief Charger --More info go here-- This is a much simpler joule thief charger that works really well. It's cheap to make and hassle free, no dealing with coil size and windings and such. Use your batteries that your camera says are dead to charge other batteries. Use it as a night light that charges batteries.There're many things you can do with it.

Inverting A Joule Thief This is an altered Joule Thief circuit that runs a modified CFL on 12 volts at about 1 amp. The coil is wound on a solid ferrite rod instead of a Toroid shaped core. Three windings of 30 gauge wire make up the coil. Two 20 turn wraps and one over those of 450 wraps. Two small .047uf capacitors and one 20 ohm resistor were added to the circuit. This is a BEMF charging circuit but in the video a large capacitor is used instead of a battery to capture the energy.

The Joule seem the best answer to the situation of iPad stands, excluding of course Apple's own basic docking stations. The Joule is machined from a solid piece of aluminum and available in three different surface treatments of plain and anodized silver or black. Inverted Joule Thief Part 2 This is part 2 of my 'Inverted Joule Thief 'project. I added 200 more turns to the secondary winding of the coil to increase the output of the device. The end result was that the circuit produced more light and had better charging. A second transistor and heavy duty resistors were added to help with deal with the heat produced. A regular flourescent tube was used instead of a modified CFL.

Joule Ringer with small bifilar coil and Exciter effects.ASF This is the Joule Ringer with a small bifilar coil that shows "exciter" type effects. In this setup I went back to the gremanium diodes instead of the 1 meg ohm pot. The air core bifilar coil is wound using steel (or iron?) floral wire and copper magnet wire. This was recomended by Lasersaber and worked very well. I show the system running open ended on the high voltage output.
Earth Battery-Joule Thief Runs 48 Inch Tube (40 watts) This is my earth battery running a 48" (40 watt) florescent tube. It is not at full brightness but it is lit and lit pretty well. It is much brighter than it appears on the camera. i am using my earth battery and running the output into two 2.3, 10 Farad supercaps in parallel with my modified Fuji joule thief circuit. The earth battery does not put out enough mA's to run the Fuji circuit by itself. The supercaps allow it to power the Fuji joule thief. When I get a much larger cap, I believe I can run this as long as I want to. I can charge the supercap with the earth battery by day, and run off it and the earth battery at night. Investigating Joule's Law A Leaving Certificate Physics mandatory experiment. We passed a current through a fixed mass of water for a fixed time. Then we graphed the change in temperature of the water against the square of the current.
Super Joule Thief - RLC resonant circuit. I added an extra transistor and a capacitor to the basic Joule thief and made an RLC resonant circuit. No toroid is necessary. I wound one turn of insulated wire, (yes, one turn) and the led lights up. The oscillations are so powerful it hums. Just like when the flash is charging in a disposable camera.
