Kessler Crane Pocket jib Review We have loved this jib. Not only do I use it as small jib (mostly operating from the head) but I also use it as a pour mans Peewee Dolly. When I take it on set the camera sits on it all day and I just wheel it around to where I need the camera. It makes moving so much faster. But most of what I want to say is said in the video. I forgot to mention that we are running the Hurcules head on the K-Pod. you don't need it for this Jib but I did want to get it for future use of other jibs or bigger camera setups. Hague Camera Supports K8 Boom Jib The new Hague HDV Boom K8 has been developed to support the new range of HD camcorders such as the Sony Z1, V1, A1 etc. plus all other "handheld" camcorders under 4kg.. The boom is fastened directly to the video head of any sturdy tripod, in the same way you would attach your camcorder, it can be mounted using both 1/4" and 3/8" screws. On the end of the boom is a camera plate (quick release adaptor shown in video is an optional extra) mounted on a pulley with a control cable coming down the boom to a second pulley at the side of the video head on the tripod. It is this control cable that keeps the camcorder level as the boom is raised or lowered. Tilting the tripod's video head controls the camera pulley on the end of the boom, enabling the camcorder to be tilted up or down. The radial ball bearings in the pulley ensure a very smooth tilt movement. The boom breaks down into 3 pieces making it quick and simple to set up, standard bar weights (not supplied) are used for counterbalance and there is an adjustable fine trim weight to achieve optimum balance. The boom can be used at 2 different lengths, at its longest length the camera will go from ground level to over 3.5metres high and at its shorter length to 2.5metres high. The boom breaks down into 3 pieces making it quick and simple to set up, standard bar weights (not supplied) are used for counterbalance and there is an adjustable fine trim weight to achieve optimum balance. DIY Video Jib / Crane Brackets More information on these brackets http The hardest part about building a DIY video crane is in the brackets to support long bars. This is a 'prototype' idea of a DIY Jib Bracket - designed using Steel rectangle tubes and flat brackets. It assembles with simple bolts and nuts, and because there is no welding involved it reduces time and cost to manufacture such brackets. Being able to purchase just brackets means you reduce costs in shipping (weight + length). Spaced perfectly to connect to common perforated square tubing, or anything you can drill a hole in (wood planks, aluminum square tube, etc.) If you start with a 1.25" square tube and insert a 1" tube inside, you can create a telescoping jib that expands. The rear of the jib can telescope also when you need to move the weights further from the center balance bracket. If you're using perforated tubes (like mine) once you have it positioned, you simply lock it in place with 5/16" bolts. So far the measurements on these custom brackets seem perfect. Trying to get the pricing for the brackets somewhere around $15 -$20 dollars so others can build their own jibs... More information on these brackets goo.gl
