In short: -Blend fields looks great in motion but suffers from blurring, it's sometimes hard to notice what's going on. But, this render type suits steady motioned games where the camera doesn't move so fast, eg RPG games. -Interpolate fields gives a very clear, crisp look (as it should be) but it lacks the smooth motion that Blend fields creates and so this is more suitable for fast paced games such as FPS games where fast and frantic motion is common and so a crisp and clear video can help you to see what's going on exactly. Controllable Conformal Maps for Shape Deformation and Interpolation Controllable Conformal Maps for Shape Deformation and Interpolation Ofir Weber and Craig Gotsman ACM Trans. on Graphics Vol.29, No. 3 (Siggraph 2010) Abstract Conformal maps are considered very desirable for planar deformation applications, since they allow only local rotations and scale, avoiding shear and other visually disturbing distortions of local detail. Conformal maps are also orientation-preserving C∞ diffeomorphisms, meaning they are extremely smooth and prevent unacceptable "foldovers" in the plane. Unfortunately, these maps are also notoriously difficult to control, so working with them in an interactive animation scenario to achieve specific effects is a significant challenge, sometimes even impossible. We describe a novel 2D shape deformation system which generates conformal maps, yet provides the user a large degree of control over the result. For example, it allows discontinuities at user specified boundary points, so true "bends" can be introduced into the deformation. It also allows the prescription of angular constraints at corners of the target image. Combining these provides for a very effective user experience. At the heart of our method is a very natural differential shape representation for conformal maps, using so-called "conformal factors" and "angular factors", which allow more intuitive control compared to representation in the usual spatial domain. Kerkythea & Google Sketchup - Frame Interpolation Test (using Twixtor & Sony Vegas Pro) Here is an animation test for a project i am working on... Using Google Sketchup, Kerkythea 2008 Echo, Virtual Dub, Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 and Twixtor (and yes, I know I spelled it wrong in the video...) A total of 41 JPG images were rendered out of Kerkythea. This test was to determine if Twixtor could accurately interpolate this small amount of visual data into a longer continuous video stream (41 still frames into 600 frames @ 29.97 FPS). The test proved successful. While the idea of keyframe Interpolation is nothing new... Users making use of this technique can create smooth looking animation without having to render out EVERY frame directly from their 3d software (Twixtor renders MUCH quicker then any 3d ray-tracing algorithm that I know of). This could cut your rendering time in half... significantly speeding up the process of creating digital animation and freeing your computer for other tasks. Another useful application includes up-sampling lower frame rate animation to a higher frame rate without speeding up the footage. 30 fps to 60 fps or 18 to 30 etc... Imagine being able to render HALF the info but still having a smooth looking finished product... Timo Stich, Christian Linz, Georgia Albuquerque, and Marcus Magnor Abstract: The ability to interpolate between images taken at different time and viewpoints directly in image space opens up new possiblities. The goal of our work is to create plausible in-between images in real time without the need for an intermediate 3D reconstruction. This enables us to also interpolate between images recorded with uncalibrated and unsynchronized cameras. In our approach we use a novel discontiniuity preserving image deformation model to robustly estimate dense correspondences based on local homographies. Once correspondences have been computed we are able to render plausible in-between images in real time while properly handling occlusions. WeatherStudioV2 BETA: Continuous Interpolation of GFS Gridded Data on the Time Axis This video demonstrates a new feature that will be available in WeatherStudioV2.0 which allows the user to interpolate gridded geospatial data along the time axis. The displayed dataset is the GFS 0.5 degree Surface Wind Gust forecast at 27H after 12Z on 12/12/11, but this feature is available for all geospatial animated data in the model data explorer. This feature smoothly interpolates each scalar quantity at a certain position not only among the x and y axes if the user enables smoothing, but also between each temporal grid as the software renders faster than the data frames advance. The video shows the test grid incorporated with a National Radar Reflectivity mosaic and Infrared Satellite image, as well as the toggling of spatial interpolation. Each animated dataset can be reverted into discrete form at the click of a button. Although this video only presents a slowed 10-15FPS display due to video capture software, much faster refresh rates (30+FPS) are easily achieved on entry-level consumer graphics hardware and will almost always have a more fluid appearance in actual usage situations than in this video. VST, Dx & FL Native plugins (synths & samplers) may or may not have their own internal interpolation settings (sometimes called over-sampling). If you check Sytrus for example you will see it has its own Live (Draft) and Render settings. All good plugins interpolate/oversample or whatever, but some just don't show these settings to the user. To make sure plugins DO put their best foot forward when rendering, make sure the switch "HQ for all plugins" is on in the Render dialog and the Wrapper setting "Notify about rendering mode" is also on.
