  • BOY CRISIS BALCONYTV LONDON 07/07/2009 LAYLA ANNA-LEE with BOY CRISIS Boy Crisis is an American Proto-Post Popular Music Band from the United States following the Rhythm & Blues Tradition of such classic acts as The Ronettes and New Edition, carrying on the Great Western practice of cultural appropriation in an attempt to forge at least some semblance of interpersonally translatable empathy and compassion and at most, true love. Two useful terms a music journalist might feel compelled to use in describing them would be: "danceable" and "pop hooks." Boy Crisis is a "Brooklyn buzz band." They are well-liked in the blogosphere. They are hip and marketable to several youthy demographics. They have "crossover appeal." They have an "ethnic band member." Boy Crisis is a semi-cosmic cultural entity. Their spaced-out vibe is totally tubular. They are the conundrum of masculinity and youth. They are a limited liability corporation. Check out the weblink! Tune in again tomorrow!!!

  • Blind Faith? What is faith and why is it 'blind'? Faith is usually understood (by me at least) as 'belief without evidence'. Howvever, on reflection I think it is more accurate to say 'belief without empirical evidence' since even the more irrational belief must be based on some kind of evidence, even if it is only the gut feeling of intuition or the unquestioned submission to scriptural authority. Perhaps the telling difference between these different kinds of evidence reveals itself in the metaphors we use to express (and comprehend) them. When referring to empirical evidence which is 'objective' we use visual metaphors ('seeing', 'transparent', 'clear' etc), alluding to the interpersonally available properties of the visual. In contrast, blind faith has no access to this objectivity and relies on the individual and ideosyncratic evidence of the gut and the feelings.

  • Barack Obama: Narcissistic Personality Disorder Over the past few weeks, some observers have noticed that Barry aka/ Barack H. Obama is displaying characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder. Now, oftentimes the sins of the parents are visited upon the child", in other words, inherited. So, let's take a look at Stanley Ann Dunham's chart. You will see that the Moon is within one degree of its' classic enemy Rahu. oftentimes, when these two planets are conjoined, you will see paranoia, manic-depression or narcissistic personality disorder. The Moon is an extremely important element of the chart since it is the significator of the Mind. Similarly, in Barry's chart, Rahu is throwing its 10th aspect on the Moon within a few minutes. DSM-VI, the psychiatric manual, cites several causes for NPD, two of which I will cite 1."the child is over-indulged by the parents" (Stanley) 2.the child receives "unreliable or unpredictable caring."(Barry). He doesn't act like he's a nominee anymore. He acts like he's already won. does anyone else feel nervous about that? • 9. Guest Lecture by Jim Alexander: Managing the Crooked E Capitalism: Success, Crisis and Reform (PLSC 270) Jim Alexander, former CFO of the Enron subsidiary Enron Global Power and Pipeline, offers an insider's account of Enron's corporate culture and operations before the company's spectacular fall. The leaders of Enron, Mr. Alexander asserts, disregarded concerns over the company's ethics. Enron strategically found and exploited loopholes in accounting regulations to make their transactions as opaque as possible. Lack of regulation and oversight allowed Enron's traders to inflate their numbers. Organizations that were in a position to oversee Enron's operations sometimes faced grossly misaligned incentives that rewarded negligence. Mr. Alexander emphasizes the notion of the "rational economic man" in Enron's corporate culture, and its predominance over notions of ethical corporate behavior.
