The US Environmental Protection Agency issued the challenge to Great Lakes basin residents participating in over 100 projects in literally hundreds of communities that are collecting pharmaceuticals, electronics and household poisons. The EPA awarded grants to some of the projects.   • United Diversity - Elijah Interfaith Conference in Israel by Claudia Henzler more on: photos: Claudia Henzler - photos@ www.elijah- --- The Elijah Interfaith Institute has held its forth bi-annual meeting of the Elijah Board of World Religious Leaders in Israel from October 18 - 22, 2009. The topic was "the future of religious leadership". Aim of the interreligious conference was, to foster a deeper understanding, respect and appreciation for the other religions, to work on growing in awareness, forgivness and reaching out towards others, focusing on peace, while staying firm in its own religious roots... The program of the Conference took place in Haifa, Galilee & Jerusalem. Leaders of the different major religions met for panel discussions, workshops, had prayer times, went to talk infront of and with the students of Haifa University and pupils of a Christian school. Several Holy Sights of different religions were visited and honored.

  • 17th Karmapa Europe Tour & London Interfaith Conference The Gyalwa Karmapas have been the spiritual heads of the Karma Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism since the 12th century and have worked tirelessly for the benefit of all sentient beings. The 17th Karmapa was born in Tibet in May 6, 1983. In keeping with the tradition of the Karmapas recognizing themselves, as a very young child Thaye Dorje repeatedly proclaimed he was the Karmapa. On March 17, 1994 an official ceremony took place in New Delhi and Trinley Thaye Dorje was formally recognized and enthroned by the 14th Shamarpa, second in command in the Kagyu lineage, as the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, the genuine Holder of the Black Crown. This video documents the Karmapa's European tour in 2005 and his participation in the London Interfaith Conference as the key-note speaker.   • Eastern Spotlight: Geshe Phelgye-Diversity and Interfaith The Eastern Washington University campus community turned out in large numbers to listen to visiting Tibetan speaker Geshe Thupten Phelgye talk about diversity and interfaith cooperation, social and community service and Middle Eastern issues last week. A member of the Dalai Lama's Tibetan Parliament in-exile, Geshe Phelgye related his life experiences as a Buddhist monk and scholar to issues faced everyday on the EWU campus and in the lives of EWU community members. His discussion about diversity and interfaith cooperation, held in the Hargreaves Reading Room, attracted about 200 people. Geshe Phelgye's visit was sponsored by the EWU Compassionate Interfaith Society and co-sponsored by EWU's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and College of Arts and Letters.
