  • Matthew Cost - The River Ku (Original) Watching myself sing this song makes me think of the refrain from My Back Pages. "Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now." As a lover and performer of folk music, I've always identified with that statement. My Back Pages was on Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964). I feel that he was really re-evaluating things at that time and it shows on that album. Obviously, he went (half) electric on his next album so things were shifting, but you can already feel it on Another Side. When you're steeped in folk music there's a certain romance associated with age and wisdom and a lot of young folkies try to get that feeling into their songs. But eventually, people realize they can't fake it. When you get to that point, it can be funny to look at things you wrote before and think "My God, I thought I was older then. I'm younger than that now." Since I wrote and am here performing this wistful, melancholy song. It may seem like I'm contradicting myself, but I don't feel that way. Maybe I just haven't yet reached the point that Dylan was talking about. But I'd like to think that for a few minutes, I'm inhabiting a close relative of mine who is enduring the loss of an old friend. He has expressed nearly everything I say in this song. So, in my mind, it's really more his than mine. So here I am on double bass, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, electric guitar (solo), banjo, harmony, and lead vocals. Enjoy! Well, my friend, I see your face so clear Yesterday, oh ...

  • The Fall of Europe and Coming of Eurabia - Mark Steyn (1 of 4) Courtesy of UCTV, University of California Television Abridged version. ooo OOO ooo Mark Steyn, political columnist and cultural critic, has written a remarkable book, America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It (Regnery). He combines several virtues uncommonly found together -- humor, accurate reportage, and deep thinking -- then applies these to what is arguably the most consequential issue of our time: the Islamist threat to the West. The nanny state infantilized Europeans, making them worry about such pseudo-issues as climate change, while feminizing the males. It also neutered them, annexing "most of the core functions of adulthood," starting with the instinct to breed. From about 1980, birth rates plummeted, leaving an inadequate base for today's workers to receive their pensions. Structured on a pay-as-you-go basis, it amounted to an inter-generational Ponzi scheme, where today's workers depend on their children for their pensions Arriving at a time of demographic, political, and cultural weakness, Muslims are profoundly changing Europe. • Flight 253 Prelude : FOX Discusses Protection From International Al Qaeda Threat December 23, 2009 Before Flight 253. Rep. Ron Paul (R) TX has a far more sensible handle on this incident than what we have heard from the infantilized media: "....The agenda behind the Flight 253 bombing incident is to expand the war on terror into Yemen while stripping Americans of more liberties, warning that it's time people woke up and realized that the government cannot guarantee their safety. The Congressman highlighted how the bombing attempt followed geopolitical turmoil in Yemen in the form of attacks in the country launched by the Saudis with the endorsement of the US -- and how sectors of the media and politicians were now calling for Yemen to be a new front in the war on terror as a consequence of the Christmas Day incident."It seems ironic that there is so much excitement about this and now talk about attacking Yemen," said Paul, adding that it was the United States' presence in Yemen that represented a threat to America, not the purported presence of Al-Qaeda members in Yemen..

  • Cargo 200 (2007) (English subtitles). Cargo 200 (2007) (English subtitles). Although it may be too soon to declare Cargo 200 the best Russian film of 2007, it is hard to imagine much competition for the title of most controversial. Borrowing freely from various cinematic genres (for example, anti-war, family drama, psychological thriller) and literary classics (especially Dostoevskii's novels), Balabanov has constructed a rigorous and unsparing film about the death of the Soviet Union that is guaranteed to shock even the most jaded viewers. According to Balabanov, Soviet society circa 1984 was the poisonous wreck of an industrial civilization tottering on the verge of collapse from the sum of its political, social, and individual vices: a hopeless foreign war of choice bleeding the country dry, a terrorized and infantilized populace, rampant alcohol abuse among young and old, complete police lawlessness, a geriatric and out of touch government, a dismal and hypocritical popular culture, an arrogant and cynical intelligentsia, a nihilistic younger generation, and the soul-crushing hopelessness of everyday life for the masses. When the best representatives of the younger generation were sacrificed to vain and doomed imperial ambitions in Afghanistan, the future was put in the hands of amoral black-marketers, the absolutely predictable products of a soulless, cynical, and materialistic culture, who would become the business elite of post-Soviet Russia. Title comes from code phrase for dead soldiers shipped home ...
  • Killing Us Softly 3- Advertising's Image of Women To a great extent, advertising tells us who we are and who we should be. What does advertising tell us today about women? It tells us just as did it 10 and 20 and 30 years ago that what's most important about women is how we look. The first thing the advertisers do is surround us with the image of ideal female beauty so we all learn how important it is for a women to be beautiful and exactly what it takes. Jean Kilbourne continues her groundbreaking ***ysis of advertising's depiction of women in this most recent update of her pioneering Killing Us Softly series. In fascinating detail, Kilbourne decodes an array of print and television advertisements to reveal a pattern of disturbing and destructive gender stereotypes. Her ***ysis challenges us to consider the relationship between advertising and broader issues of culture, identity, ***ism, and gender violence. Sections: Does the beauty ideal still tyrannize women? | Does advertising still objectify women's bodies? | Are the twin themes of liberation and weight control still linked? | Is ***uality still presented as women's main concern? | Are young girls still ***ualized? | Are grown women infantilized? | Are images of male violence against women still used to sell products?

  • VHS Cut up Scratch TV Cable Mash 01 Yes, in the before times, *Mash* was a show about army doctors and *Up* was something that went with 7. TV had a great influence on people and computers were just a hobbyists dreamland. No one had access to high tech frame accurate editing facilities except the very rich. If you had enough donkeys, you could trade a herd of them for a Videonics MX-1 mixer and do live mixing with the output from your VCR. Better yet, use the output from your cable box. Why would you do this? Because of generation loss dummy. And because you never knew what was coming next. If you did record stuff, you could layer it like a fool, but no where near as nicely as you can do in Final Cut. It was seat of your pants editing in its highest zen like attentiveness. Good luck to our brave video commandos, trapped like Japanese infantry fighting WWII into the 50's. Goodbye and good luck Television. You infantilized us for years and now you are getting your comeuppance. Long live social media and stupid free zones. Long live 1920x1080. Long live 24p. Long Live Torrents. For your health.
