viktor schreiber - artist portrait - teaser About Basic Income: A basic income is an income unconditionally granted to all on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement. It is a form of minimum income guarantee that differs from those that now exist in various European countries in three important ways: it is being paid to individuals rather than households; it is paid irrespective of any income from other sources; it is paid without requiring the performance of any work or the willingness to accept a job if offered. Liberty and equality, efficiency and community, common ownership of the Earth and equal sharing in the benefits of technical progress, the flexibility of the labour market and the dignity of the poor, the fight against inhumane working conditions, against the desertification of the countryside and against interregional inequalities, the viability of cooperatives and the promotion of adult education, autonomy from bosses, husbands and bureaucrats, have all been invoked in its favour. But it is the inability to tackle unemployment with conventional means that has led in the last decade or so to the idea being taken seriously throughout Europe by a growing number of scholars and organizations. Social policy and economic policy can no longer be conceived separately, and basic income is increasingly viewed as the only viable way of reconciling two of their respective central objectives: poverty relief and full employment. There is a wide variety of proposals around. They differ according to ...

Theft By Deception -- Deciphering The Federal Income Tax The misrepresentation and misapplication of the United States federal income tax constitutes the largest acquisition of wealth by way of deception in history. A handful of government lawyers fabricated an intricate maze of legalese which created a perfectly Constitutional tax (a tax on income derived from certain types of international and foreign commerce), but which at the same time could easily be misread to give the impression that the income of all Americans is subject to the tax. For decades, the American people have been "conditioned" to believe that the income tax applies to all income and trained to pay "their" taxes. All the while, however, hidden in a previously nearly universally misunderstood (therefore misapplied) section of the law known as Subchapter N, Section 861 was the truth that the income tax is NOT a direct tax on incomes but is an indirect tax imposed only on those individuals engaged in certain types of international and possessions commerce. Most Americans are engaged in purely domestic commerce (commerce that occurs entirely within and between the 50 states). Subchapter N proves that domestic income received by residents of the United States (most incomes) is not taxed, due to Constitutional restrictions on Congress' power to tax.

Christopher Hitchens (5/6) on Income Inequality, Corporate Welfare and Patriotism (1996) July 4, 1996 Watch the full program: Income inequality in the United States of America is the extent to which income, most commonly measured by household or individual, is distributed in an uneven manner, in the United States. While there seems to be consensus among social scientists that some degree of income inequality is needed, the extent of income inequality and its implications on society continue to be a subject of great debate, as they have been for over a century. The majority of social scientists believe that income inequality currently poses a problem for American society with Alan Greenspan stating it to be a "very disturbing trend." Meanwhile, other, mostly conservative social scientists argue that income inequality is mainly the result of more workers in the average household and their age and education, and that the disappearance of the middle class is more statistical than real In a 2004 poll of 1000 economists (from the AEA), a majority of polled economists favor "redistribution." A study by the Southern Economic Journal found that "71 percent of American economists believe the distribution of income in the US should be more equal, and 81 percent feel that the redistribution of income is a legitimate role for government." Some argue that looking at incomes according to different income levels is not useful for determining income inequality because it neglects that people do not stay within each level, but move ...

Elizabeth Warren - The Two Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going Broke Elizabeth Warren discusses how the dreams of the middle class american family are being depleted by the dramatic increase in bankruptcies and foreclosures. Warren discusses the role that credit card companies and ballooning interests rates have played in rapidly increasing mortgage rates as well as the how the over consumption myth is clouding our understanding of the average middle class family, who is in fact experiencing a lower standard of living than their parents and still finding themselves one payment away from losing their home. Elizabeth Warren is the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and chaired the Congressional Oversight Panel created to investigate the US banking bailout . This program originally aired in April 2004. it is being re-aired because Professor Warren's predictions of economic disasters and the reasons for them have proven correct, and she is a candidate to head a commission to guard against recurrence. Wealth and National Income Distribution in America - United States Capitalism (1955) Wealth inequality in the United States refers to the unequal distribution of financial assets among residents of the United States. Wealth includes the values of homes, automobiles, businesses, savings, and investments. Those who acquire a great deal of financial wealth do so primarily through the appreciation of fiscal portfolios. For this reason, financial wealth involves only stocks and mutual funds, and other investments and is subject to much greater inequality than net worth alone. Various sociological statistics suggest the severity of wealth inequality "with the top 10% possessing 80% of all financial assets [and] the bottom 90% holding only 20% of all financial wealth." Net worth is defined as the difference between total assets (includes both tangible assets such as homes and vehicles and intangible such as stocks and checking accounts) and total liabilities (debt, loans, etc.) Dennis Gilbert asserts that the standard of living of the working and middle classes is dependent upon income and wages, while the rich tend to rely on wealth, distinguishing them from the vast majority of Americans. Melvin L. Oliver and Thomas M. Shapiro propose that wealth signifies the opportunity to "make it" in life; wealth is not used for daily expenditures or factored into a budget but when coupled with income it comprises the family's total opportunity "to secure a desired stature and standard of living, or pass their class status along to one's children." Moreover, "wealth ...

Rise in food prices might 'help' reduce income disparity (08 Jun 2011) Rise in food prices might help reduce income disparity By Stella Lee | Posted: 08 June 2011 2207 hrs SINGAPORE: Food prices are on the rise, but some economists argue that it may help some Asian countries that are net exporters of food. And they add that this may even reduce to some extent the income disparity between nations. According to a report issued by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, world food prices are likely to remain high into 2012. Over the past 12 months in Asia, food prices have gone up by 25 per cent in Vietnam, 11 per cent in China and have risen between eight and nine per cent in Thailand, India and South Korea. One agricultural commodity that has been particularly affected is corn. It has more than doubled in price over the last 12 months. Ker Chung Yang, an investment ***yst with Phillips Futures, said: "The corn demand for food and the corn demand for biofuel production...is sort of trying to fulfil the demand for people." The US government has attempted to stimulate the use of biofuels with subsidies as an alternative to crude oil. The biofuel subsidies have prompted farmers to shift corn supplies away from the agriculture market. Other agricultural commodities that have seen significant rallies in price include coffee, wheat and sugar. Over the past year, coffee prices have nearly doubled, and wheat prices have risen 70 per cent. But on the bright side, economists said global food price increases will reduce income inequality between Asian ...

Back on Track - Low Income Teaching Tool - PART 1 Buy it online at eBay: Back on Track© is the first financial training tool designed as a game specifically for people working with low income clients. There are many teaching tools available for those who work with middle class or higher class individuals, but there has never been a financial game for those living in poverty until now. If you are a social worker, a person who volunteers with the poor, someone who does financial coaching with those in poverty, or someone who works with low income middle or high school students and their parents, then this game is for you. Back on Track© is designed to teach low income individuals how to begin winning with money and becoming more self-sufficient. The Back on Track© game is great ice breaker for starting that ever important "honest dialogue" about money and finance with low income clients. The game does not talk down to your clients or force them to make unrealistic lifestyle changes like giving up cable television or cigarettes. As you already know, suggesting drastic lifestyle changes in a new client's life will cause them to tune you out. Instead, the game creates opportunities to discuss a variety of topics (budgeting, paying rent and utilities, playing the lottery, payday lending, etc...) with your clients without turning them off in the process. Plus, it is designed like a children's game so it isn't intimidating. The Back on Track© game comes complete with the following: 3 - Distinct Game Boards 3 ...

Finance Minister Tharman : Raising real incomes in next decade poses biggest challenge - 01May2011 SINGAPORE : Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said that helping lower- and average-income earners get higher pay is the key priority for the People's Action Party (PAP). At a walkabout in Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) on GRC, Mr Tharman told MediaCorp that raising real incomes over the next 10 years poses "the biggest challenge", and is the way to help Singaporeans cope with rising costs in the long run. The Jurong GRC team is facing a contest from the National Solidarity Party (NSP). Its party's members have questioned if efforts such as getting stallholders not to raise prices in the next six months is an effective way to help Singaporeans cope with the cost of living. Mr Tharman said the basic approach is let incomes rise by growing the economy and helping Singaporeans improve on their jobs. He also dismissed talk that the Grow and Share package, given just days before the General Election, is a way to get votes. Mr Tharman said: "If you look at the party's track record, in the last five to 10 years, each time we had a recession, each time we have had a high inflation, as long as the government budget can afford it, we have provided very significant support for the people - either in cash or through the CPF or through the electricity bills and the conservancy charges or through extra bursaries for the children. "That is something that we will keep on doing, it is not new, it is not aa one year gimmick of any sorts. This has been part of the ...

"I'm taking in zero. I'm going in the hole. We owe the bank more than ever. We keep owing," Michaels said.
