  • Wood Bison The bison is an iconic Canadian animal. Tucked away in the fur vault of the Canadian Museum of Nature is a unique specimen of this majestic animal, a Wood Bison. This particular bison an adult male - is special because it is the single specimen that was used when the wood bison subspecies (Bison bison athabascae) was formally described in 1897. As such, it is a holotype, the specimen designated as the name-bearing type of this nominal subspecies. It was collected in 1892 about 80 km southwest of Fort Resolution in the Northwest Territories. As a holotype, scientists researching this subspecies use the Canadian Museum of Natures specimen as a point of reference. The bison must be preserved in a controlled-environment facility to protect it from the damage that can occur with prolonged exposure to light and heat. For this reason, it is no longer displayed publicly. The Wood Bison are massive creatures, much heavier than their cousins, the Plains Bison. They are the largest Canadian terrestrial mammals. Five hundred years ago, they ranged over a large territory including much of the northern boreal forests of Canada. By the late 1800s, they were nearly eliminated as a result of the encroaching fur trade, excessive hunting and unusually heavy snowfalls. Today, the Wood Bison is included in a threatened species list compiled by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. There are now around 7000 to 9000 free-roaming wood bison in the wild, mainly due to ...

  • Spore Charonosaurus Wiki Quote - Charonosaurus is a very large lambeosaurine hadrosaur (estimated around 13 m (42.5 ft) long),[1] known from a partial skull (Holotype: CUST J-V1251-57 (Changchun University of Sciences and Technology, Changchun, Jilin Province, China)) found in the Late Maastrichtian Yuliangze Formation, west of Jiayin village, Heilongjiang Province, northeastern China. Adult and juvenile hadrosaur remains discovered in the same area and formation likely represent the same taxon and supply information on most of the postcranial skeleton; the femur length was up to 1.35 m. (4.5 ft). The partial skull resembles that of Parasaurolophus and probably had a similar long, backward-projecting hollow crest, indicated by the highly modified dorsal surface of the frontal bones. Charonosaurus is one of the largest hadrosaurs currently known from Asia and indicates that lambeosaurines survived till the very end of the Cretaceous (lambeosaurines are not known from the Late Maastrichtian in North America).

  • Crotalus exsul Crotalus comes from the Greek crotalon, a rattle or little bell; exsul comes from the Latin exul, meaning to be exiled or banished, in reference to the location of the holotype specimen collected from Isla Cedros, Mexico. The previously used name ruber means "red," which is quite descriptive of individuals from the northern portion of their range. Recently, it was determined that the two species (C. ruber and C. exsul) represented only a single form. The name exsul is choosen because it was the first of the two to be described (it has priority).

  • Dinosaur News Center: Largest Carnivorous Dinosaur In this episode, we pit the former champ, Tyrannosaurus, against Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus. Can Tyrannosaurus hold its own? Shocking new details may surprise you. Links to research: Giganotosaurus measurements. Growth of T.Rex UCMP118742 age Things I left out on purpose. LACM 23844 is another Tyrannosaurus bigger than Sue. It's just a skull as well, but not as big as MOR 008 so I didn't bother. Peck's T.rex = MOR 980 (AKA Rigby's T.rex) is NOT bigger than Sue. C.Rex is complete a mystery. Jack Horner claims it's 10% bigger than Sue, while other claims it to be the same size. I left it out due to lack of real numbers. Giganotosaurus's skull is without a doubt longer than T.rex. Body proportions are different though, so it can only be compared to their respective species and not with each other. You can scale the skull with the entire body then compare it against each other. There are 2 more possible candidates for largest herbivore, but very little is known, and no real numbers were given. • Raptorex Tribute Raptorex is a genus of primitive tyrannosauroid dinosaur, similar to (but much smaller than) the later tyrannosaurids such as Tyrannosaurus rex. Its fossil remains consist of a single specimen uncovered in the lower Yixian Formation of northeastern China, dated to approximately 125 million years ago during the early Cretaceous period. The type species is R. kriegsteini, described in 2009 by Sereno and colleagues. The genus name is derived from Latin raptor, "robber", and rex, "king". The specific name honours Roman Kriegstein, a survivor of the Holocaust, whose son Henry Kriegstein donated the specimen to the University of Chicago for scientific study. Raptorex shows the same basic proportions as later tyrannosauroids: a comparatively large and solidly-constructed skull, long legs with adaptations for running, and tiny, two-fingered forelimbs. This is in contrast with more basal, contemporary tyrannosauroids such as Dilong, which retained features characteristic of more basal other coelurosaurs such as a small head and long, three-fingered forelimbs. Despite its similarity to later, giant tyrannosaurs, Raptorex was comparatively very small, estimated at 3 m (10 ft) long and about 65 kg (143 lb). The holotype (LH PV18) measured about 2.5 m (8 ft) and died in its sixth year.

How appropriate that the very store which helped me get my line started with an excellent female would bless me with this guy, his brother and another real nice female (their sister). • (un)SAID - Self Inflicted Hailing from Colorado, this alternative metal band dedicated itself to writing interesting and thought-provoking music. Starting as a 3 piece in 2004, the group worked on its craft for a year before searching for a vocalist and playing shows. After going through several failed auditions, the band stumbled upon Jeremy online and during the first song of his audition, it was easy for all to see that he was a perfect match. Jeremy brought menacing, honest, and intelligent lyrics to the table and was equally strong at melody and brutality. Soon after, the band released their "Scars Resurfaced" 4-song LP. With the bass duty help of friend Nick Cirullo, (un)SAID hit the Denver/Colorado Springs bar scene hard and the band's confidence, musicianship, and stage performances continued to improve. Since relocating to Florida in October 2005, the band has been through mulitple member changes. In September '07 (un)SAID saw the return of Nick to the lineup as he made the move from Colorado to Orlando to become a permanent member in the group. (un)SAID completed the team by acquiring local veterans Don Cadman (Holotype) on drums and Josh Gorsch (3rd Limb, Nilmorta) as a second guitarist. With the current lineup (un)SAID now continues to be a proven unified force as they have now become one of Orlando's top drawing metal bands. In the past year the band has seen growth in their fanbase due to the release of their debut self-financed, self-produced album "The Initial Transition", which ...

  • Dinosaurs of 2009. READ A tribute to 3 Dinosaurs all discovered/discovered to have feathers this year, all discovered in china. Packed all into 40 seconds. PS This is a factual video and was made to share information more than anything. SO PLEASE SHARE IT WITH OTHER DINO LOVERS. Heres a brief summary and whats so special about these critters: Epidexipteryx A small maniraptorian dinosaur known only from one fossil. It lived 152-162 MYA. Its skeleton shows that it had four long tail feathers, and wore a coat of downy fur. The skeleton measures only 10 inches and it weighed about 164 grams. It also had a long bird-like third finger. Anchiornis A small, feathered, Maniraptorian dinosaur. it is very closely related to birds. It was about 13 inches long and lived during the Jurassic/Cretaceous period. Scientists suggest it could probably fly, as it is very similar to Achaeopteryx. Tianyulong A tiny Heterodontid Dinosaur of only 70cm (as estimated in the holotype subadult based on Heterodontosaurus.) It is unique because its skeleton shows fragmentary structures that resemble feathers. This confused paleontologists because Heterodontosaurs were once thought to be in no way related to birds, belonging to a group that gave no ancestral link to birds. This strange herbivore lived in the Early Cretaceous, and has small tusks in its mouth. It is also the earliest feathered dinosaur known. The song is Lunatic Calm by the Jackal. the above was written by me btw.
