Kalil the Tripawd Rottweiler - Happy to Have a Visit from Grandpa Today! My dad came up to help with some house stuff and Kalil was very happy that Grandpa was over! He didn't realize I was recording the fun and was asking me how the washer and dryer had been working... lol. His 5-year-old "sister", Abby, gets in on the fun too. It has been 8.5 months since Kalil had his front left leg amputated. He had a Histiocytic Sarcoma tumor in his front left shoulder.

Tobey Champ My dog Tobey Champ, 7/2001 - 8/31/2012. We adopted him from a local animal shelter. He was tough and smart dog. He developed a type of bone cancer (HISTIOCYTIC SARCOMA) which ultimately metastasized to his lungs. The cancer first appeared as a 'lytic lesion' in the vertical rambus of his lower right. We had the lesion and affected areas excised shortly after discovery, which the doctors felt it would be a 'curative' procedure meaning that the cancer was eliminated before spreading. We felt tremendously relieved that our knowledge of all his mannerisms paid off to save his life. After excision of the diseased bone we had radiation applied to the area to destroy any other cancer cells. The radiation was expense and lengthy as it took about 20 sessions to complete. Sadly a few months after the radiation treatments began to have a dry cough. We were warned that his cancer type goes to the lungs often. In July 2012 we brought him to Oncology where x-rays revealed masses in his lungs. Such a heartbreaking day for us and we decided not to pursue further treatment as it seems metastatic cancer is unstoppable and we wanted his last weeks to be peaceful and free of vet visits. Towards the end he was becoming more lethargic, chronic dry cough, and loss of apetite. At a certain point we felt he crossed the point where the balance of his quality of life was no longer in his favor. When the end came he was such a tough dog in that he greeted the euthanasia vet at the door with a ...

He still kicked ass at 3.91 yps. Kalil was diagnosed with histiocytic sarcoma in his left shoulder and his leg was amputated on 09/01/11. Today marks his 10-month ampuversary.

Kalil the Tripawd Rottweiler Gets a Visit from Grandpa - 07/22/12 Another visit from Grandpa! Kalil just started his prednisone and boy is it making a huge difference so far. Of course, a little Grandpa magic seems to make Kalil a very happy dog as well. It is like we found the Fountain of Youth for Kalil today. He was diagnosed with histiocytic sarcoma in his front left shoulder and had his leg amputated on 09/01/11.

Kalil the Tripawd Rottweiler is Happy His Dad is Home - 1 week after amputation Kalil got his front left leg amputated on 09/01/11 after being diagnosed with histiocytic sarcoma. I am hoping to remember to get video of his progress on a week to week basis. He was laying down before his dad got home and rose too quickly and it was very uncomfortable for him. I will have to remember to have him standing up so we don't make that mistake again next time. Kalil just gets too excited.

Kalil the Tripawd Rottweiler - 07/28/12 - NADAC Agility - Novice Tunnelers My main goal with Kalil for our tunnelers run was for me to stay ahead of him and not spend 5-10 seconds fixing my handling mistakes. About halfway through, Kalil has a different idea of what he wants to do after he notices his dad recording the course run and goes over to say "hey". Kalil has never gone out of the ring in an agility trial EVER but there is a first time for everything. :) Kalil will have his 11-month ampuversary on 08/01/12 after having his leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma in his left shoulder.

Grady Limping Grady limping on his front right paw 11.18.11 Went to vet next day - sprained wrist, meds and crate rest for 30 days. showed response after week and a half. UPDATE: February 13 2012, after no relief, we took Grady to an oncologist in January. Come to find out, this had nothing to do with torn muscle, sprained wrist, etc. It's a tumor, sitting behind Grady's shoulder - a histiocytic sarcoma tumor. Prognosis is poor. We never imagined this to be the cause of his limping and pain and are devastated. However, he is currently undergoing radiation to shrink the tumor and is enjoying his life - running in the backyard, going back to his obedience classes and chasins squirrels and bunnies and anything else that comes in his path. A blog has been started by his "sister" - Rubi, our older boxer. If you'd like to keep up to date on Grady's progress.

Immunobiologists at Cincinnati Children's get to the source of defects in the immune system What if scientists could come up with a molecular tool to reverse leukemia? What if they could find a better treatment for patients with steroid-resistant asthma? What if they understood more about the defects of the immune system in diseases running the spectrum from cystic fibrosis to cancer or arthritis? At Cincinnati Children's, researchers in the Division of Immunobiology are coming closer to answering some of these "what ifs."
