Syd Barrett - Octopus I'm back with a brand new video, this time with Syd Barrett's Octopus from his 1970 solo debut, 'The Madcap Laughs'. 'Octopus', also known as 'Clowns and Jugglers', was written by Syd Barrett in 1968, and eventually recorded in June 1969. The song is also notable for being his only solo single with "Golden Hair" as the B-Side, released on November 14, two months before the album. After leaving Pink Floyd in 1968, Syd Barrett attempted to record new material throughout 1968 to 1969 at Abbey Road Studios. Peter Jenner, with ex-manager of Pink Floyd, helped produced some of these sessions. While many of the sessions failed to kick off, eventually Malcolm Jones, an EMI executive, helped Syd to complete some of the songs for the new album. The session musicians for 'The Madcap Laughs' featured musicians from bands such as, 'The Soft Machine' and 'Humble Pie'. While Syd still remained erratic, he managed to successfully complete most of the recordings produced by Jones. Eventually, Jones left the production on the album and Dave Gilmour along with Roger Waters came to produce the rest of album. Gilmour and Waters also provided extra overdubs to Barrett's songs playing bass and guitar. After several months, the album was finally released on January the 3rd, 1970, and was fairly well-reviewed by critics at the time. The footage was ultilized from two sources, 'Pink Floyd - Jugband Blues Promo, 1967' and 'Syd Barrett's Home Movie, 1970'. I do not own the copyright for the audio or ...
