Mercy Air Helicopter Take Off from Antelope Valley Hospital Mercy Air helicopter takes off from Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, CA, approximately 1300PT 11/3/2007 after dropping off a patient for its ER. This video shows the helicopter ramping up and taking off to the north (along with an annoying white SUV that crosses the frame twice). I can confirm this Bell 222 (tail N402MA) is the same one I've seen based at the Mojave Spaceport (Mercy Base 14). Mercy Air units typically carry a flight crew of three: pilot, flight nurse and flight medic. In this video, the pilot is in the right front seat, medical crew is in the other front seat and you can see the third crewmember in the back window looking at me suspiciously. First up, female test pilot and iron cross winner FlugKapitan Hanna Reitsch flying the FW-61 in 1937, setting many distance, endurance and height records. Then her flying it indoors at the Deutschland Halle in 1938 at the Berlin Motor Show . Then the the first craft to pioneer "Air-mobile" and evacuation operations, bomb carrying, machine gun equipped medi-vac, artillery transporting Fa-223 "Drache". The Drache flew in 1940. The Fa 223 carried a nose mounted MG 15 machine gun plus an array of other weapons onboard for crew use and two quarter ton bombs, optional auxiliary droptanks and winch system. With a ceiling of over 22000ft it was suitable for high altitude mountain missions. In one demonstration example the Drache flew 85 missions in 29 consecutive days to 15000 ft high altitude, carrying men, 75mm artillery and all their ammunition. Able to carry up to 12 combat troops on external benches and 4 crew inside, it could also carry up to 2.2 tons by cable externally. The Draches used in one of the Helicopter units stationed in Münster flew rescue and recover missions and could retrieve and transport whole airframes of other craft suspended below on cable. I chose the Raiden 1620Kv motor for this machine. I must say, it is more than ample! If you use the same, make sure you know how to handle the power and not overdo it. Always searching for an electric helicopter with some weight and mass to handle our winds, I have begun exploring the 500 class helicopters. In this video, I give a look at the Esky 900 helicopter actually flying in those winds. The ES 900 is a fantastic flying machine, when set up with the pitch and throttle curves I developed on my test stand. I have videos on my test/training stand and how to make the pontoons. Search Stealth Helicopters and for NightFlyyer's Helicopter training/test stand to see my videos on the subject. The Esky Helicopter feels good and solid for sure and I am quite impressed, since this helicopter only cost $139. I used the 14.4 battery for the first test flight, and the 18.5 volt battery for the 3D flights. I recommend the 14.4 battery, because it runs longer and the extra power of the 18.5 is not necessary, however I like the extra weight of the bigger battery. Also, you need a charger that can charge an 18.5 v, 3000 Ma, 5 cell LiPo, so that is a consideration. RC Helicopter FISHING! Dave tries hand at "Heli Fishing" For you skeptics who say the fish was dead, I assure you it wasn't dead. That said, I still risked my E-Flite Blade 400 for some entertainment for you (I used 3 batteries, hence the cut) as fun and challenging for me. I doubt most others would risk their $450 heli just to hover over the water, let alone dangle a line! This scenario shows it may be possible to use the Helicopter for fishing, however it would be expensive fishing. It is always terribly windy here, so on this calm day, those simple waves in the water was of no concern to a sunfish! It also helps to have lots of fish, like in our Sand Pit Pond where they bite on hooks with no bait! (actually I used fish eggs and the hook 24" from the bobber. Hey, you never know, if you don't try! ***Caution from past experience*** If the Tail rotor hits the water even slightly, it will immediately cause a crash. Big fish can drain batteries fast. It takes and hour to charge between flights of only 6 minutes, so this could be a long process to catch a fish. Sunfish are not big fighters. Fly easy and thanks for watching.
