Savatage - Handful of Rain Savatage - 2. Handful of Rain - Handful of Rain The night is growing dark From somewhere deep within It shelters like an ark That always takes you in The barmaid walks on over And pours another round For a lost soul at the corner Who prays he's never found And the mind goes numb Until it's feeling no pain And the soul cries out For a handful of rain Wash your women In your Whiskey When your future's In the past And your staring Up at heaven From the bottom Of a glass And you need some insulation From the years you've Had and lost And you feel the perspiration As you're adding up the cost And the night rolls on Like a slow moving train And the soul cries out There's a land beyond the living There's a land beyond the dead If it's true that God's forgiving Of the lives that we had led In the distance there's a thunder And the air is thick and warm And the patrons watch with wonder The approaching of the storm And the night rolls on Like a slow moving train And the soul cries out For a handful of rain There's an old man in the corner And he's smoking all the time An the smoke is drifting upward and it's Twisting in my Twisting in my Mind In my mind The whiskey's getting deeper And I use it like a moat There's a blues man in the distance and he's Lost inside his Note His note The night is growing dark From somewhere deep within It shelters like an ark That always takes you in And the night rolls on Like a slow moving train And the soul cries out For an handful of rain
Mozart Piano Concerto No. 9, 2nd Mvt, Part 1 Mitsuko Uchida Mitsuko Uchida plays piano and Jeffrey Tate conducts the Mozarteum Orchestra in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 "Jeunehomme", in E flat major, K. 271. A Saltzburg Festival performance, recorded in the Mozarteum, Saltzburg, 1989 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed this concerto in Salzburg, 1777. Though only 21 years old, he displayed great maturity and originality in what is regarded by many as his first great masterpiece. It was composed for a Mlle. Jeunehomme, of whom very little is known (such as--her first name!). But she must have been a very fine pianist to be able to perform this! The mix of dramatic and intense emotions, some seemingly mad and anguished with parts of joy and happiness suggest (one romantically feels) that Mlle. Jeunehomme must have been quite a handful for the young Mozart. 1. Allegro, in E flat major and common (C) time 2. Andantino, in C minor and 3/4 time 3. Rondo (Presto), in E flat major and 2/2 time update-- thanks to Laemmerhirt, I moved past my old sources and got some new info! Christopher H. Gibbs wrote in 2005: WHAT'S IN A NAME? Countless beloved pieces of so-called classical music have a nickname, often one not given by the composer. Mozart would have no idea what the "Jupiter" Symphony is, Beethoven the "Emperor" Concerto or "Moonlight" Sonata, or Schubert the "Unfinished" Symphony. The names sometimes come from savvy publishers who know they can improve sales, or from impresarios, critics, or performers. The case of the Concerto we hear ...

"Rough Riders" Garryowen There are only a handful of war movies and/or historical films that portray the men that fight battles realistically, and two of them — both "starring" Theodore Roosevelt ("The Wind and the Lion" and "Rough Riders") — are by John Milius. "Rough Riders" is an unforgettable film on the events of the Spanish-American War and it is too bad that more movies cannot be like this or like films such as "Zulu", "Gettysburg", or "The Longest Day". In this brilliant outtake that shows the pathos of the departure to the front, the troops of Teddy Roosevelt's (Tom Berenger's) 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry fall in under the orders of Captain Bucky O'Neill (Sam Elliott) for the train ride east across the South to Florida (for embarkation to Cuba), discovering in the process that the wounds of the Civil War (or the War Between the States, to make everybody happy) have started to heal, all to the tune of Garryowen, stunningly sung by Elan Oberon (who happens to be Milius' wife). If there are DVDs that all Americans (hell, that all people everywhere) should own, this is one of them — don't miss other outstanding portrayals, notably Marshall Teague as Black Jack Pershing and Gary Busey, utterly outstanding in the role of Fighting Joe Wheeler. (Thanks to Hervé for all his work in creating this video)

The Ballad of Steven Slater Yes, this has pretty much blown over, but I put up an MP3 at Lyrics: Steven was a simple man Workin' on a plane But his working conditions Were driving him insane Oh it really was a nightmare on each and every flight, there were passengers who didn't know their place But Steven drew the line On that fateful August 9 When someone's luggage hit him in the face See you later, Steven Slater Didn't need no escalator Just slid right out that airplane door and ran See you later, Steven Slater You're a first-class hellraiser A flight attendant and a hero of the working man Now Steven was a patient guy But this he couldn't stand No apology was coming So he took things in his hands He jumped onto the intercom And shouted right out loud Bout all the world's injustices To the uncaring crowd And before he pulled the chute, he took some ill-gotten booty A couple beers to drink on the way down He knew he'd said his piece By the time they called police He was packed and on his way out of town See you later, Steven Slater Didn't need no escalator Just slid right out that airplane door and ran See you later, Steven Slater You're a first-class hellraiser A flight attendant and a hero of the working man So when the world's oppressing you And you can't take no more Just remember Steven Slater and slide right out that door

Incorrupt Bodies of the Saints part 2 The incorruptibles are the handful of catholic saints who died throughout the years, yet their bodies, or parts of their dead bodies, will not decay or surrender to decomposition as a normal body would. One human relic even dates back to the year 1381, the head of Saint Catherine of Siena. These bodies had not gone through any embalming or mummification methods to prevent them from decomposition, yet their bodies, or some parts of their bodies, remain intact. It is said that many of the incorruptibles bodies died from violent matters or harsh diseases. A lot of the bodies had been buried regularly within damp conditions, to be exhumed on a far later date. When these bodies were finally exhumed, a lot of them had their clothes disintegrated from bad burial conditions, yet their bodies remained the same, and sometimes looked as if they were still alive, or had just passed on. There are other phenomenons that are associated with the corruptibles as well. These amazing feats include lack of rigor mortis, an sweet fragrant smell coming from the incoruptibles bodies (St. Sperandia, St. Rita of Cascia, etc...), scenes of bleeding far after passing ( St. Francis Xavier, etc...), some bodies have become warm long after death, and highly rare movement of limbs long after death as well, which also have been heavily associated with blessings ( St. Rita of Cascia). Some even say there have been extremely rare cases of talking as well. ( St. Esmeralda Eustachio Callafato) A lot of ...

Introducing... Owiny Sigoma Band In 2009, a handful of London-based musicians travelled to Nairobi in Kenya to collaborate with two local musicians: Joseph Nyamungo and Charles Okoko, who hail from a village up country called Owiny Sigoma. The workshop/rehearsals were a lot of fun and pretty fruitful so they set about finding a studio that could accomodate a 7-piece live band. The resulting four tracks made their way to Gilles Peterson who promptly signed the band to his Brownswood imprint and sent the boys back to Nairobi for another week-long recording session with Joseph, Charles and their extended musical family. The traditional folkloric music of Kenya has not received the same global exposure as that of Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Africa or North Africa for example and one of the objectives of this project was to try and build on this. The band draw on a broad spectrum of African influences, from Fela Kuti and Tony Allen to the likes of Thomas Mapfumo and Oumou Sangare, but bar Jesse's participation with Damon Albarn's Africa Express, this was the first opportunity for Jesse Hackett (keys), Louis Hackett (bass), Sam Lewis (guitar), Chris Morphitis (bouzouki/guitar) and Tom Skinner (drums) to visit specifically for a musical project. The results are documented on the band's forthcoming album -- a collection of gloriously hypnotic Afro grooves symbolic of the true culture clash between the Luo and London. A 12" featuring two tracks from the original session in Nairobi - 'Doyoi Nyajo Nam' b/w 'Jalako ...
