Mount Elgon Elephant Charge Ian Redmond June 2010.mov Conversation with a truculent elephant, June 2010 To habituate the elephants the MEEM Team use a method adapted from that developed by Dian Fossey with gorillas. By rumbling to announce our presence, we avoid surprising the elephants. For nearly 10 years this has happened almost daily and is usually peaceful, but on this occasion one elephant took exception to our proximity in dense bush and told us to back off!
Autobiography of a Hopi Trailer A Hopi farmer reflects on his lifetime trek from desert through depression and war and back to a traditional way of living. The story of James Koots is told in his own words with his own voice: United States Army soldiers take him away from his home by force when he is a child and hold him with the other children from his village for 5 years 500 miles from home to integrate and habituate them into urban culture. He survives depression and war and returns home to nature and tradition. The story of this film and the feature EARTH SPIRIT that grew from it can be read at /alankentgorg.

Dua Makarimul Aqhlaq - (The Honorable Morals) This Du'a has been taught by our fourth Imam (a) and is a clear indication of the loftiness of moral virtues expected of a believer. Islam believes in the elevation of the human being, that a human is a great and dignified creation, far above the animal world. One of the signs of this dignity is the possession of noble and magnanimous qualities. In order to achieve this behavioural excellence, man needs to overcome his base and selfish attributes, and cultivate noble qualities. In this Du"a the Imam specifies these qualities, and shows how we can try to inculcate them in ourselves. Taken as a lesson in Akhlaq, the Du'a is a wonderful program for those who wish to excel in good manners. "The most complete in faith among the believers is he who has the best manners." [Holy Prophet (s)] "Habituate yourself to magnanimity, and choose for yourself the most excellent of all etiquettes, for virtuous behaviour is a habit. Avoid the most low of all etiquettes, and struggle with yourself to avoid it, for evil is stubborn." [Imam Ali (a)]
Whole Brain Emulation: The Logical Endpoint of Neuroinformatics? Google Tech Talk May 27, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Anders Sandberg. The idea of creating a faithful, one-to-one computer copy of a human brain has been a popular philosophical thought experiment and science fiction plot for decades. While computational neuroscience and systems biology are currently very far away from this goal, the trends towards large-scale simulation, industrialized neuroinformatics, new forms of microscopy and powerful computing clusters point in this direction and are enabling new forms of simulations of unprecendented scope. In this talk I will discuss current estimates of how close we are to achieving emulated brains, technological requirements, research challenges and some of the possible consequences.
How do I go from participating in a behavior addiction? Virtually everybody has addictions. It's normal to have habits, and people engage into these habits all the time. And we actually need habits to survive, otherwise we would wake up every day and say, "Well, how do I tie my shoe?" We have to habituate. So people go into these activities pretty much like they go into any new activity: they learn it, it works, they do it again. Now, what evolves over the course of time is they learn to lean on that one methodology, that one coping skill, all too much. There is sort of a back end that addiction has, where you can't extricate, you cannot unravel yourself, and a force called tolerance starts to act, where you need more and more of the same thing to get the same outcome. So there is a snowballing effect, where you're locked in and you can't do anything to go forward. For more information go to
re, being the long now what I wanted to express is simply the idea that perhaps our experience of time and space emerges as we grow into our particular (social) habits of punctuating the stream of experience in order to function efficiently therein, this may well be spurious to say yet (based partly on my memories) during development or 'formation' we inhabit a kind of spacious present where in-formation overflows our senses and as we slowly begin to rise out of an immensely rich texture and begin to occupy the spatiotemporal scenes we learnt to function responsibly and accountably within we acquire a sense of a distance between us and our situations, we acquire a sense of a self that is "narrative" and very selective in nature which contracts our experience of space and time into meaningful and predictable coordinates, mere skeletal dimensions (actually, what triggered this line of thought was my recent drift back to childhood memories when a curious combination of a series of images in my mind and specific sounds from outside the window seemed to evoke such depth of emotion that it felt painful to feel its strong contrast to my present state of engagement with the world, of course this may be the coloring effect of nostalgia, and of course, the brain that retrieves a memory is not the same that had formed it, yet that depth was so stirring and so fleeting etc etc

PTSD Exposure Therapy - session four (part 1) Exposure therapy is considering one of the best empirically supported treatments for not only PTSD but also a number of other anxiety disorders (eg OCD & phobias) For educational purposes only. Enjoy! Session four centers on "imaginally" exposing clients to memories of their trauma event. The overarching goal of this procedure is to help clients' to habituate to these memories (as these cognitions largely maintain the clients maladaptive constellation of avoidance behaviors, nightmares, etc.). More generally, this process can be utilized to reduce most fears and phobias - even death! (Eg, Zen Buddhist death meditations) But I digress. Take a look! Outline of session 4: 1. Explain imaginal exposure rationale 2. Emotional processing 3. Need to digest this heavy experience 4. Ensure client understands the importance of reliving rather than remembering the experience (ABSOLUTELY PIVOTAL THE CLIENT STRIVES TOWARDS THIS GOAL) 5. Habituation reduces avoidance & anxiety 6. Increase self-efficacy 7. Enhance sense of mastering fears 8. Ask client to sit back, relax, close eyes and begin reliving the memory 9. Offer direction & support when indicated 10. Query subjective units of distress 11. Rinse & repeat

Almost (original) I wrote/recorded this last April...along with a *** ton of other stuff I might upload eventually. Lyrics: Maybe I should learn to let go Instead of always holding on But maybe i don't want to... You're gonna force me aren't you... Force me, to forget... Well it's a shame That you had to do what you had to... Now I'll have to not feel what I would for you... We were as close to perfect as it gets... But now I will habituate and forget you too... Maybe I shouldn't care at all... Maybe I should've known all along... I'm afraid we'll never coordinate... And once you make me let go... you'll want to hold on... To me for good... Well it's a shame... That you had to do what you had to... Now I'll have to not feel what I would for you... We were as close to perfect as it gets... But now I will habituate and forget you too... By Eli Federman - The disconnect of emotions and intellect...How do we unify them? Saturday, October 18, 2008 10 PM Battling Your Emotions One of the major challenges all people face is fighting the torturous dichotomy between the heart and the mind. We see examples of this every day. Our mind tells us that it is a bad idea to overeat junk food but our emotions tell us it feels good. Our mind tells us that smoking cigarettes will harm us but our heart tells us that smoking cigarettes feels good. Our mind tells us that recreational drug use is harmful but our heart tells us it is exciting. Our mind tells us that we should free ourselves from abusive relationship or unhealthy relationships but our heart tells us that we can make it work out (ie, See Battered Person Syndrome). The list goes on and on... Can we truly be happy when our emotions rule over our intellect? Completely suppressing our emotions will make us miserable robotic, stoic, uninteresting, inhuman computers. Similarly, being ruled by our emotions will make us miserable, undisciplined, inhuman, unstable and will ultimately be destructive to our health and well being. The solution is to use our intellect to harness and channel our emotions in a positive way. Maimonides in the first chapter of his philosophical treatise The Guide for the ...

I made a decently nice and safe setup (hands free and secured to the car) and just needed to give it a test run or two. Well, this video is test run # 4 or so. It still needs quite a bit of work in the audio arena as well as the "man - is this dude going to get entertaining sometime soon?!" arena. However, I think this turned out to be a test with acceptable results, technically. So sit for a spell and hear me extol the traits of CREATIVITY on my way home from work. Stimulation, traits, output, definition, growth, opinions, et cetera... and even some giant blue ball lightning flame goodness... well... reference to it as the camera was pointed elsewhere. Hope you enjoy some portion of it. Please leave your comments below. Thanks for watching! Treats to use- Most frequently asked question #1- dog training clicker training I made this quick video because this is the most common question I get asked daily on youtube. BUT the secret is not WHAT treat to use, but what treat YOUR dog needs you to use. It will be different for every dog! The next secret is that you have to keep changing the treats up or the dog will get bored/habituate to the treat you always use.
Catguard #1 This is first vid associated with a simple "guardbot" I'm setting up to look after my (presently) 8 mo kitten. After adding a catflap to the back door, I discovered at least 2 of the neighbouring toms have been coming into my kitchen (and maybe elsewhere in the house) in the early am's to (a) steam food, and (b) beat up the kitten. So I've started building various simple contraptions to try to keep the strangers out, but allow the kitten in. First prototypes were various combos of "dumb" IR and sonar sensors attached to noisemakers. By changing the noise from time-to-time these kept the stangers out, but allowed the kitten to habituate to the noises (and thereafter ignore them) the first few times she was coming & going. But forseeing this won't work forever with adaptive systems like tomcats, I'm moving it up a notch. The next system will try to visually ID which cat (or -- harder -- cats plural) are entering an area, and take appropriate action. Appropriate actions will include lights, noises, movements, and -- taking a leaf from Trossenrobotics -- a stream of water. This is vid of the first (couple, maybe) of experiments. I've linked an IR camera wirelessly to a small box of tricks based on an avr32. After managing to get g++ 4.3.2 and (more importantly) libstdc++ up on the avr32 (seems to be a world first ;) I've been tinkering up some very simple OPENCV-based code to examine the vision stream. Step 1 is obviously decide whether "a" cat is presently in view. Later we ...

CTT 0001-What is it? Creative-inspired, imaginative, inventive artistic, ingenious, productive, innovative, resourceful Thinking-philosophy, idea, accepted wisdom, opinion, view, judgment, assessment, belief Technology-skill, knowledge, expertise, know-how, equipment, machinery, tools. Creative Thinking Technology, or CTT, is a program model that I have put designed, using various manifold Arts based practices to help people become familiar with certain types of right brain thinking processes. Once a process of thinking is identified, the idea is then to practice and habituate the use of it through creative engagement in as many multi-sensory ways as possible, and with as much pleasure as possible (the subconscious is impacted through connecting information and strong emotion). The purpose of this is TWO FOLD: If a person allows time for the creative process and play, their lives are immediately enriched in ways that are difficult to describe. It just feels GOOD to create! We are creators, by decision or by default-but it feels SO, SO GOOD to be so on purpose. We remember and deeply hold to moments in which we invest our heart creatively. Things MEAN more. We live MORE passionately. We are happier. In beginning to grow and develop in that Intentional Creativity, as triggered by my workshops, a persons mind (conscious and other than conscious) is progressively opened... Things start to change. Not only is every day, and each activity given a heightened sense of appreciation, but appropriately ...
Thinking Accurately - The Basis for Total Effectiveness In this video, we talk about what stops a lot of people from really achieving what they want in their lives and that is inaccurate thinking. If we think in terms of accuracy, opportunities and possibilities, the kinds of actions we take will be congruent with getting the results we want in life. The challenge is that most of us have been programmed to think in an ineffective way. I'm about helping people to change that, and to install the right patterns of thought until they habituate and become automatic.
Youdiction: (definition) addict Source: () noun 1. a person who is addicted to an activity, habit, or substance: a drug addict. verb (used with object) 2. to cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on an addictive substance, as alcohol or a narcotic. 3. to habituate or abandon (oneself) to something compulsively or obsessively: a writer addicted to the use of high-flown language; children addicted to video games.
Barking Episode 4- Barking at Strangers- Dog training This dog training video outlines a plan for beginning to counter condition a dog to certain types of people that a dog becomes reactive to. This video can also be used as a way to socialize young puppies to weird things in the environment. Another useful application of these exercises would be for a dog and handler team practicing to take a Canine Good Citizen test, as well as proofing a Therapy dog or Service dog for all types of situations they might encounter while on the job. It is very common for dogs to become reactive to anything out of the ordinary. We have selectively bred them to be this way. Many dogs will become reactive or show fear to stimuli such as a weird hat, a cane, a walker, a stroller, a person with bags, a big jacket, strange movement and anything that changes a persons profile. You can set up training games to change your dogs emotional response from fear or arousal to calm friendliness using counter conditioning. Watch this video to check out what you can do. -------- Another thing you can do to speed up the process, is to leave these scary items around in your house for the dog to habituate to and investigate. You can also wear them. If your dog is fearful of people with gloves, wear gloves when you watch TV in the evening every once in a while. Put on a different scary item before you put down your dogs dinner bowl. ------- If at any point the dog were to become reactive, simply say 'let's go' to the dog, and when the dog has stopped reacting you ...

How to Control Brown Dog Ticks in Port St. Lucie, Stuart, Vero, Jupiter FL Brown Dog Ticks in a Martin County Florida home. This was a case where Reynolds Pest Management had an opportunity to use its expertise in pest control for this infestation of This tick problem had to be addressed on multiple occasions which is often the case at the homes we treat on The Treasure Coast, and in Palm Beach County, Florida. Ticks Appearance: Ticks come in a variety of colors as regards specific species. Smaller than a sunflower seed (1/8 inch); yet if engorged with blood, adults can be up to 5/8-inch long. Nymphal (or immature) ticks are less than 1/16-inch. Common problem ticks include the American dog tick, deer or black legged tick and lone star tick. Habit: While some species require moisture to survive, others can and do in more arid environments. They habituate near wooded and highly vegetated areas. Diet: They consume blood meals during all of the four developmental stages in a tick's lifecycle. All females and males of most species feed on blood of mammals, birds and reptiles. Reproduction: From egg and larvae, to nymph and adult; ticks have only six legs during their larval stage and eight legs during the nymphal and adult stages. A tick's life cycle will support and transfer pathogens (organisms that cause diseases) in the animals they infect and can be passed through all stages of a tick's life cycle.
