  • Hamster habitat Creating a habitat for any animal is a great way to learn more about them, and provide a better life for them in captivity (even though they may have been born & raised as a pet doesn't mean all their natural instincts & needs are gone). Making it look as natural as possible will make them feel more comfortable how would you like a house with glass walls that people could always be staring at you through? Designing something that's similar to their natural environment (even if they've been raised in captivity & are domesticated) is a good idea. One thing to keep in mind with hamsters, is they like corners and feel safe in them. Try and create as many corners as possible. This movie briefly describes how to design a basic hamster habitat using a 10 gallon glass aquarium. Wall-mart currently sells them for $14 (a lot better than most pet-store prices)(note: that doesn't include the lid) The movie also describes what enrichment is, & provides a few starter ideas. Also check out the other movies I've done for more in depth information on side issues mentioned briefly in the movie. Please post video replies of ways you've made good habitats for your small animal to encourage others to do it & give them ideas to work off of. One thing I forgot to mention in the movie is I also sealed my shelf with an artists acrylic paint - it seems pretty much like Elmer's Glue - the bottle came from Prism Art Supplies (a artist type store). The "paint" is non-toxic, and makes it so that ...

  • 6. Habitats at Herculaneum and Early Roman Interior Decoration Roman Architecture (HSAR 252) Professor Kleiner discusses domestic architecture at Herculaneum and the First and Second Styles of Roman wall painting. The lecture begins with an introduction to the history of the city of Herculaneum and what befell some of its inhabitants when they tried to escape obliteration by Vesuvius. She features three houses in Herculaneum, two of which--the Houses of the Mosaic Atrium and the Stags--are among the best examples of a residential style popular in Campania between AD 62 and 79. Professor Kleiner then turns to the First or Masonry Style of Roman wall painting, which seeks to replicate the built architecture of Hellenistic kings and other elite patrons by using stucco and paint to imitate a real wall faced with marble. She follows with Second Style Roman wall painting, which uses only paint to open up the wall illusionistically onto vistas and prospects of sacred shrines, city scenes, and landscapes. The lecture concludes with a discussion of the Garden Room from the Villa of Livia at Primaporta, which epitomizes the Second Style by transforming the flat wall into a panoramic window. 00:00 - Chapter 1, Introduction and the History of Herculaneum 13:30 - Chapter 2, Houses at Herculaneum and the Samnite House 20:35 - Chapter 3, Further Developments in Domestic Architecture at Herculaneum: The House of the Mosaic Atrium and the House 37:47 - Chapter 4, First Style Roman Wall Painting 52:02 - Chapter 5, Second Style Roman Wall Painting 01 ...
