How to paint figures Part I: Acrylic paints - the groundwork. Because i´m using some new techniques i decided to make a new video about painting figures. Especially oil paints are a big improvement. Part II will deal with oil paints and the finished figures. The figures i used for this videos are from Andrea miniatures and show a Roman Centurion and a Legionary of the 1st Century BC They look exactly like the two protagonists in the series "Rome" from HBO, my favourite TV series. Scale: 54mm (1/32). In my understanding this video is an update to earlier videos i made about painting miniature figures. The techniques shown in this video are just my own way to paint figures. Ground work explained- new horse Satin I have been asked literally about 200 times to post a raw video of me doing groundwork with a horse and explain what I'm doing as I go. This type of ground work is what I use to asses a horse's personality. I will post another video on what I do with an unbroken horse, as my next new horse is unbroken. I haven't really tried to put what I do into words before, so I kind of just explained what I was doing to my boyfriend Kale, who was filming this video. Sorry if things don't make sense or are hard to understand, I can try to explain them better in the comments however I really don't have time to answer irrelevant things like "my horse does bucks how can I fix it", please only ask questions to things relevant to this video. This is one of my two new horses I will be working with, Satin. He is a 10yo 16.1hh thoroughbred gelding, he has come to me to be re-trained and then sold (I do not own Satin). Sating literally came off the float 15 minutes before we started filming, so the exercises I am doing in this video are ones I use to asses a horse's personality and how I would address them. Satin has been re-trained since coming off the track and has done 3 years of pony club, but mainly he is a show jumper. His owner has told me he went sour(had a bad attitude towards being ridden) about a year ago and that he can buck and pigroot while being ridden. You've got a friend in me, Boo; NEW HORSE ground work This is my other new horse, Peek a Boo (Boo), and I know you're all going to fall in love with him because he's pretty and grey.. people seem to like grey horses. Boo has come to me to be broken in, sorry to disappoint everyone but he will not be for sale. Boo is a 8yo 16.2hh percheron x thoroughbred, he spent 7 and a half years of his life as a stallion paddocked alone in 200 acres, when he was bred with they released the mares into the paddock, and a few weeks later caught all the mares again. Boo had very limited exposure to humans and never had his feet/teeth/injections done, he was also never halter broken and obviously he was not broken in. My friend Josh bought Boo, he wanted a heavy horse for trail riding. So the first thing we did was take him to the vets to be gelded and have his teeth/feet/injections done, while he was at the vet we also had him collected from, so now we have a supply of frozen semen from him that we can use to breed with a mare at any time (the plan was to breed Moonshine to Boo, but he is too big for her first foal). After that I organised to have Boo turned out at Seamist (the stud where Teddy and Moony were bred) to be turned out with other horses so he could learn social skills. At Seamist Boo got to see humans a lot more, but he was really just left to learn how to behave with other horses. And now I have finished school and Boo has come to me to be broken in. This was filmed on my 3rd day of owning Dee, her last race was 2 weeks prior to this. So this is Dee's very first time doing some ground work and her first ride since being off the track. As you can see she had very little trust to begin with, which is perfectly normal for a horse with her background. But she was brilliant to work with, and was a gem undersaddle. Unfortunately I couldn't get anybody to film me, so it's just dodgy camera sitting on the fence filming, but better then nothing. What I'm doing here is gaining her trust, and teaching her how I would like her to behave. Taking her for walks on the lead, just spending time with her in the paddock, talking to her, grooming ect. all really helps to build your relationship between you and your horse. The groundwork here is desensitizing, towards ropes and 'scary objects'. You can see how much she improves towards the end. She was soo nice to ride, didn't put up a fuss once. The camera was only focused on one spot of the arena, so you miss out of half of what went on, but I'm hoping to have somebody filming me riding her soon. I managed to get a lovely slow trot from her, a canter on both leads and she backs up. Very proud ...
