I taped this with my digital camera and later put the album music under the songs (I got the setlist, so I know which song I got). In this movie they are playing: Grotesquery Conceiled (within measureless magic), Puritania, Sympozium, The Serpetine Offering, Chosen Legacy. It was Pretty difficult to synch the sound good, because in some strange way, the speed of the songs are live different than on the album, but I did the best I could. I hope you like it! This applied media theory project seeks to chart the uncanny valley - a trope developed by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori, which states that as robots and other humanoid creatures appear closer to humans, they elicit a sense of repulsion by the viewer due to their imperfect simulacra. It's that unsettling feeling you get when you can sense that something is a bit "off" about what you're seeing. This video charts my horror as I travel through Dr. Mori's hypothesis. We see the progression as technology has developed from non-humanoid industrial robotics, to benign robots with a slight resemblance to humans. It then dives deep into the uncanny valley, where attempts at human likeness result in repugnance and grotesquery. Is this response an instinct that protects us from death? Are we repulsed by these images because their soulless appearance reminds us of our own mortality?

FFXIV FF14 NM-Tarbh Uisge @ Bloodshore (Bodhum Server 5 Jan 2011) Not long ago, Mathistien of the Cloven Hoof and his traveling grotesquery was one of the realm's most popular exhibitions. People would flock from all around the countryside to see such spectacles as the two-headed nannygoat, the hairless phurble, and the show's main attraction—the colossal Tarbh Uisge. However, it was not until after the giant creature broke loose from its fetters and trampled through Limsa Lominsa, starting a fire that destroyed hundreds of buildings and killed countless innocent citizens, including two high-ranking thalassocratic officials, that it was revealed that Mathistien was actually an assassin for the Zer'maat Five. Needless to say, the mummer was promptly arrested and exiled to a lonely island prison in the Cieldalaes, where he has remained in solitude for the past ten years...or so we thought, for lately there have been rumors that the assassin has fled his island prison and is not only back on Vylbrand, but has brought with him his loyal pet, Tarbh Uisge. Azeyma's Shields is certain that this is the work of the Zer'maat Five, and will stop at nothing to recapture this dangerous criminal and bring him back to justice.
