Greenshank's flooded arena Although Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) is a common winter visitor to Thailand in both freshwater and sal***er habitats, I have to admit I have seen it run around with its tactile beak underwater like this only a few times. This species probably adjusts its foraging technique due to certain factors in the surrounding environments. I have no idea what they are. The lack of invertebrates on the bank/in the mud? The abundance of aquatic preys? As far as I could remember, there was no other wading birds around (maybe only a few but certainly not in close proximity) when it did this. This video was recorded at Baan Nam Kham, Chiang Rai, on 7 Dec 2010.
