Ten Grands Seattle - "Holding Her High" By John Nilsen "Holding Her High" was written for his daughter and performed by Portland, Oregon pianist John Nilsen. Website: "TenGrands" features ten grand pianos and ten concert pianists playing a variety of classical and modern pieces both simultaneously and individually. For the first time, "Ten Grands" has taken its show on the road; north to Seattle, Washington's Benaroya Hall on May 17, 2008. In addition to raising funds for The Snowman Foundation, this performance also benefited PONCHO (Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations). The entire concerto consists of 3 separate movements. 1928 WINIFRED CHRISTIE on BECHSTEIN MOOR DUPLEX GRAND PIANO JS Bach Toccata and Fugue The Moór Duplex Grand Piano was a fascinating two keyboard piano that enjoyed a certain notoriety in the interwar years. With 164 keys on two keyboards, it allowed to play spreads of 2+ octaves with a single hand, and was much appreciated especially for the rendition of Bach Organ works. Listen how Winifred Christie brings out the pedal lines of the Toccata and Fugue with ease on the Bechstein-Moór Duplex . Emánuel Moór (February 19, 1863, Kecskemét, Hungary - October 20, 1931, Chardonne, Switzerland) was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and inventor of musical instruments. His second wife, Winifred Christie (b. February 26, 1882, Stirling, England d. February 8, 1965, London, England) was a British pianist and composer best known as an advocate of the Moór-Duplex piano. Here she demonstrates the capabilities of the Bechstein-Moór Duplex grand in a 1928 recording in the pedal lines of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d minor. Moór Duplex action makes it easier for the pianist to play difficult passages: - It has one set of strings and hammers. - The upper, 74 key keyboard connects through a linkage to the key an octave below on the lower keyboard. - An optional fouth pedal allows to couple the lower to the upper keyboard, thus playing octaves with a single key. - The raised knobs on the tails of the lower keys permit a chromatic glissando. Ruben de Ronde - Grands Boulevards (Taras van de Voorde is in or a little rave now Mix) Though an Armada in-house producer, the 6.5 foot tall Dutch producer surely doesn't need a big stepping stone to end up where he wants to be. Testing his skills on tracks like 'Noir', 'Republique' and translating the sounds of W&W, Push, Simon & Shaker and many others into his remixes, he's one of those backstage producers that keep the variety of sounds alive. More than comfortable switching from nu-generation trance to deep progressive and tasting the feel of cutting edge tech-house, the young Dutchman now brings us 'Grands Boulevards'. An easy-going progressive track that'll ripple the club's sound waves with a warm and deep sound. Ruben's long legs will see him take big steps on the 'Grands Boulevard' of high class productions, once again showing not to have taken a one way road. 'Grands Boulevards' received remixes by Emmanuel B. and Taras van der Voorde. While Dutch producer Taras went for a salty-flavoured tech-house tune, Emmanual brought a spicy electro- tho pumping flavoured remix to the table.
