By the bus stop there is a handy supermarket with cheapish food beer and so on with a pharmacy next door. There is a bit of a racket going on at the monastery to charge you Y85 to get in. You more or less get chucked off the bus about a mile from the monastry by cops who wont let tourists go any further. What you are supposed to do then is enter a visitors centre pay your money and then get a special bus upto the monastery. However you can walk through the centre and then just walk up the road and avoid paying. The monastery itself is one of the biggest in China - about 300 years old with about 600 monks. It's quite a big walled complex containing the temples themselves and also the houses where the monks live. Outside the wall is a small village where the support workers live.
