Samouni Family Responds to Goldstone Backtrack on Israeli War Crimes - April 4, 2011 - Ken O'Keefe During Operation Cast Lead Israel committed massive war crimes for all the world to see. Among these crimes the use of White Phosphorus in densely populated areas, use of Depleted Uranium, bombing civilian targets of all sorts without military necessity, destroying civilian infrastructure with no military justification and the infamous massacre of the Samouni family... among many other crimes. In the aftermath of Cast Lead, Justice Richard Goldstone, a Zionist Jew, was commissioned by the United Nations to write a report on the alleged war crimes. Although the report did not go nearly far enough in exposing the brutality of all the crimes committed, crimes committed by the fourth largest military in the world against a essentially defenceless and captive population, it did allege that Israel (and Hamas) was almost undoubtedly guilty of war crimes and possibly, crimes against humanity. But on April 1st, 2011 Justice Goldstone had an apparent change of heart and effectively said that he was wrong. With regard to the Samouni family he said, Israel simply made a mistake. It seems that the world in which we live in, a world of impunity for the favoured Israeli state, is set to continue. Unless of course we the people decide enough is enough. -- Ken O'Keefe

Goldstone Gaza Report: Col. Richard Kemp Testifies at UN Emergency Session UN WATCH *** Speak Truth to Power: Take Action at *** UN Watch Statement, delivered by Col. Richard Kemp, October 16, 2009, UN Human Rights Council Special Session on Goldstone Report Thank you, Mr. President. I am the former commander of the British forces in Afghanistan. I served with NATO and the United Nations; commanded troops in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia; and participated in the Gulf War. I spent considerable time in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, and worked on international terrorism for the UK Governments Joint Intelligence Committee. Mr. President, based on my knowledge and experience, I can say this During Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli Defence Forces did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare. Israel did so while facing an enemy that deliberately positioned its military capability behind the human shield of the civilian population. Hamas, like Hizballah, are expert at driving the media agenda. Both will always have people ready to give interviews condemning Israeli forces for war crimes. They are adept at staging and distorting incidents. The IDF faces a challenge that we British do not have to face to the same extent. It is the automatic, Pavlovian presumption by many in the international media, and international human rights groups, that the IDF are in the wrong, that they are abusing human rights. The truth is that the IDF took extraordinary measures to give Gaza ...

The Goldstone Report: Landmark Investigation of the Gaza Conflict | The New School The Goldstone Report: The Legacy of the Landmark Investigation of the Gaza Conflict THE NEW SCHOOL | www.newschool.edu In the spring of 2009, South African judge Richard Goldstone set out on a mission to the Gaza Strip on assignment from the United Nations Human Rights Council. He was sent to investigate possible war crimes committed by both Israel and Hamas during Operation Cast Lead, Israel's invasion of Gaza a few months earlier. Many other reports on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict had come and gone, but the account Goldstone's mission produced later that year was different; it became the report heard round the world, as it alleged that both Israel and Hamas committed atrocities during Israel's 2009 incursion into Gaza, with Israel aiming to "punish, humiliate, and terrorize a civilian population" This characterization incited uproar in Israel and abroad. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the findings supplanted any real understanding of their implications. The Goldstone Report (Nation Books 2011) changes this. Edited by three progressive Jewish Americans, it contains ***ysis, commentary, and a context for debate. Join moderator Roger Cohen (New York Times), former US Representative Brian Baird, a critic of Israel's actions in Gaza (whose essay on Congress and the report appears in The Goldstone Report), and former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY), a strong supporter of Israel's policy in Gaza and an informed critic of Goldstone's findings, for an engaging ...

Goldstone challenges US over Gaza report The United States has criticised the Goldstone report into Israel's war on Gaza, calling it one-sided. In an interview with Al Jazeera's Shihab Rattansi, Justice Richard Goldstone challenged the US government to justify its claims that his findings are flawed and biased. Goldstone said the attacks on him have become personal and he believes most critics have not even read the report.

George Bisharat on the Goldstone Op-ed and UC-Hastings Conference, Litigating Palestine George Bisharat is a professor of law at the University of California, Hastings and a member of the editorial committee of the Journal of Palestine Studies. In this installment, prof. Bisharat discusses Judge Richard Goldstone's April 1, 2011 op-ed in The Washington Post in which he reconsidered elements of the report that he and three other investigators submitted to the UN about Israel's late 2008 Gaza offensive, "Operation Cast Lead." He also discusses a March, 2011 conference he helped organize at UC-Hastings College of Law. The conference, "Litigating Palestine," was about using courts to advance the cause of justice for Palestinians. At the eleventh hour, the school's board of directors officially dropped its association with the event and forbade the dean from delivering a welcome address. UC-Hasting faculty and students have since issued statements against the board's decision. Palestine Studies TV is a project of the Institute for Palestine Studies. DONATE TO IPS:
Goldstone Reignites Gaza Debate Richard Goldstone, who chaired the UN fact finding mission to look into war crimes and civilian deaths in the Gaza War, came out with an op-ed in the Washington Times where he now says the report may have been skewed differently, in that the attacks on civilians by Israeli defense forces may not have been deliberate. Human rights attorney Noura Erakat explains.
UN Panelist Desmond Travers Challenges Goldstone's Recant - Democracy NOW! Democracy NOW! DN! Global news and politics with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez - Last month Judge Richard Goldstone, the chair of the United Nations' inquiry into the Israel's 2008-2009 assault on the Gaza Strip, retracted his key finding that Israel deliberately targeted Palestinian civilians in its three-week assault. Israel, with backing of the United States, seized on Goldstone's comments and called for the United Nations to withdraw the report. Goldstone came under criticism from his co-panelists who co-authored the original report. We speak to one of those panelists, Col. Desmond Traver, a retired Irish soldier and peace-keeper. Adam Horowitz and Lizzy Ratner Discuss the Latest News on the Goldstone Report on Democracy Now! - The lead author of The Goldstone Report on the 2008-2009 Israeli assault on Gaza has backtracked on one of his key findings. To discuss the implications of Judge Goldstone's position, Democracy Now! interviews Adam Horowitz and Lizzy Ratner. They are co-editors of an abridged version of the UN investigation titled, "The Goldstone Report: The Legacy of the Landmark Investigation of the Gaza Conflict." "The judge only comments on one small part of the report," Horowitz says, "which I take as an implication that the rest of the report stays intact and he is still in support of that." In an editorial run Friday by the Washington Post, Judge Richard Goldstone said, "Civilians were not intentionally targeted [by Israel] as a matter of policy." Now Israel has called on the United Nations to retract the report on the devastating war that led to the death of about 1400 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians and 13 Israelis. US House rejects Goldstone report - 3 Nov 09 The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution that calls a UN-backed Gaza War crimes report "irredeemably biased." Largely a symbolic gesture, the non-binding vote urges the Obama administration to oppose any endorsement of Justice Richard Goldstone's findings. Goldstone's report accuses both Israel and Palestinian armed groups of committing violations of international humanitarian law during the war on Gaza. It calls on Israel and Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, to carry out independent investigations into alleged abuses. Brian Baird, a Democratic congressman, told Al Jazeera that the congressional resolution does not correctly represent the Goldstone report, but Steve Rothman, a Democratic congressman from New Jersey, has said that the report does not give enough attention to violations committed by Palestinians.
