  • CO2 Storage Areas This map shows areas identified in the US where deep sedimentary formations appear to be suitable for long-term CO2 storage. These so-called saline aquifers are estimated to have a potential CO2 storage capacity for a few hundred years worth of US fossil fuel CO2 emissions at the current emissions rate.1 Not all regions of the US have suitable underground geologies. For example, look at Georgia. Only the southeastern corner of the state has suitable underground geologies for CO2 storage. There are additionally suitable storage sites off the coast of Georgia, below the floor of the ocean. If CO2 were to be captured at power plants in other parts of Georgia, pipelines would need to be built to carry the CO2 to a suitable injection point in Southeastern Georgia or in another state. This map is re-drawn from the National Carbon Storage Atlas, produced by the Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships (RCSP).2 RCSP is a network of institutions supported by the US government to help develop the technology, infrastructure, and regulations to implement large-scale CO2 sequestration (storage) in different regions of the United States. The National Carbon Storage Atlas also shows the locations of oil and gas reservoirs and deep beds of unmineable coal. These areas may also be suitable for CO2 storage, but the total CO2 storage capacity of these categories is much smaller than for the deep saline aquifers shown in this graphic.

  • AmazingAtheist is a Nihilist ! "A nihilist is a man who believes that the world as it is, ought NOT to be, and the world as it OUGHT to be, doesn't exist. A contradiction..." Nietzsche Emerson's Essay on Christianity: quod.lib.umich.edu Emerson "The poet knows that he speaks adequately only when he speaks somewhat wildly, or 'with the flower of the mind;' not with the intellect used as an organ, but with the intellect released from all service and suffered to take its direction from its celestial life; or as the ancients were wont to express themselves, not with intellect alone but with the intellect inebriated by nectar. As the traveller who has lost his way throws his reins on his horse's neck and trusts to the instinct of the animal to find his road, so must we do with the divine animal who carries us through this world. For if in any manner we can stimulate this instinct, new passages are opened for us into nature; the mind flows into and through things hardest and highest, and the metamorphosis is possible." "The motive of science was the extension of man, on all sides, into nature, till his hands should touch the stars, his eyes see through the earth, his ears understand the language of beast and bird, and the sense of the wind; and, through his sympathy, heaven and earth should talk with him. But that is not our science. These geologies, chemistries, astronomies, seem to make wise, but they leave us where they found us. The invention is of use to the inventor, of questionable help to any other ...

  • Hector Zazou - Tanis a Tunis from Hector Zazou - "Geologies" (MTM 20), 1990. Hector Zazou (1948 - 2008) was one of the leading French composers and producers in the field of "new musics" and electronic music. He is famous for his innovative concepts and his many collaborations with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Dead Can Dance, David Sylvian, Jon Hassell, Brian Eno, John Cale, Harold Budd, to name but a few. Geologies is one of his early recordings, released by the Belgian company "Crammed Discs". One could define Geologies as chamber music for electronic instruments, string quartet and various acoustic instruments (flute, guitar, trumpet, saxophones). Intimate, climatic, melodic, neoclassical and aerial at the same times, this is a beautiful ambient music with a specific French touch, with reminiscences of Satie, Debussy and others. The mixing and overall production are superb, and almost twenty years after its original release, this record did not loose its poetical and mysterious atmosphere... Part of this music was used to illustrate a film by commandant Cousteau. Definitely Zazou's most ethereal album.
