  • Ray Kurzweil - Futurist [Recorded July 13 2009] Ray Kurzweil is a 21st century polymath. He is a scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, author, visionary and futurist. As a scientist and inventor he has pioneered work in optical character recognition (OCR), speech recognition technology, and electronic keyboard instruments. As an entrepreneur, Kurzweil has founded businesses in the fields of OCR, music synthesis, speech recognition, reading technology, virtual reality and financial investment. He is the author of numerous books on health, artificial intelligence (AI), the technological singularity and futurism. The Kurzweilian version of the future is the inevitable merger of humans and intelligent machines. In this discussion with Computer History Museum Senior Curator Dag Spicer, Kurzweil shares his vision of how technology will re-shape the human body (and culture generally) into one that incorporates advanced technologies into a new type of post-human organism. Kurzweil sees this transformation occurring over the next 20 to 50 years and beginning with the integration of electronic-based systems into the human body. Some decades after that, a further transformation occurs--one based on nanotechnology—which incorporates the manipulation and construction of interfaces and complex systems based on atomic-level structures that merge with and control specific bodily functions and attack its problems (ie cancer). Some of the philosophical implications of Kurzweils vision are also discussed.

New revision with solar photos with important information on 2.5 billion people on earth in still living in the dark with no electricity. And the question is why solar energy is so important with today Oil Prices predicted to reach 200 dollars per barrel and climbing ! The connection which must be understood is that as Oil Prices climb the problem with begins with the oil consolidation efforts that has created the results of not new oil refineries and the same goes with the electric utilities companies with no new electric power plants having to be built within the pass 40years and many have been converted over to natural gas from coal due to the EPA standards. Recent new US Supreme Court ruling due to the scientific research on Global Warming has made strong decisions on how the coal industry is going operate . The coal industry will have hell of a fight on their hands as climate change dictate a rush to new alternative energy solutions . This sounds like competition coming. We urge that if any disruption occur remember recently CNN reported in a new documentary this Tue called The Planet in Peril ,We have been Warned! • Futurist Gerd Leonhard "Open is King" CMW 2008 Keynote Let's face it: controlling the digital distribution of music is over. In addition, the Web is forever changing music production, promotion, marketing and even A&R, as well. Any and all music is now available online, permitted or not, streamed or downloaded - if anyone still cares for making that distinction. And as of early 2008, the snake-oiled idea of DRM and digital copy protection is finally, officially, irrevocably, toast, too. The battle for digital control has been lost. For those digital natives, access to music is already replacing ownership. Radio - as we knew it - is now playing second fiddle to Online Social Networks, and the kids are tuning out of MTV & VH1 and into free, web-based, shortform TV like YouTube. Flat rate music proposals are being discussed around the globe, and gathering steam. Now, the key question is this: how can music creators get paid (and indeed, prosper!) in a world of open access, feels-like-free, paying-with-attention, a world where telecom operators, search engines and online giants run the show? How do we make money after we give up control (and it certainly looks there is no other choice)? In this keynote, Gerd talks about why it is crucial to welcome this change, and let go of the idea of controlling the digital flow of music, and where the new cash will come from - and lots of it, too..."
