  • Krishna Katha 30 When one seriously engages in the devotional service of Lord Krishna, fixing the Lord`s lotus feet within one`s heart as the only goal of life, one can destroy the innumerable impure desires lodged with the heart as a result of one`s previous fruitive work within the three modes of material nature. When the heart is thus purified one can directly perceive both the Supreme Lord and one`s self as transcendental entities. Thus one becomes perfect in spiritual understanding through direct experience, just as one can directly experience sunshine through normal healthy vision.Take care. Haribol.
  • Introduction to the study of the Srimad Bhagavatam 1 of 3 In this lecture, Dr. Satya Narayana Dasa translates from Sanskrit the Srimad Bhagavatam verse located in the Canto 2, Chapter 1, Verse 1 to 4 and he elaborates on it. In his class, he also includes the translation and explanation of Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura's purport on the same verse. Srimad Bhagavatam: 5000 years ago, after Lord Krishna's departure for the spiritual world, Srila Vysadeva had a vision of the future society. He saw the world sunk on the depths of ignorance and spiritual bankruptcy, as we are now experiencing. Feeling concern for the welfare of humanity Vyasadeva recorded the Vedas, which up to that time has been passed down from guru to disciple by oral tradition. He compiled the Puranas and Mahabharata especially for the people of the current age. Still, even after compiling the many voluminous works of Vedic knowledge, Vyasa was dissatisfied. He felt something lacking. While in this dejected spirit, his spiritual master, Sri Narada Muni, came to him and pointed out that although Vyasa had performed a great labour by compiling the Vedas, he had encouraged people to progress by fruitive activity, speculative knowledge and mystic yoga. Nowhere had he explained in a direct and systematic manner the glories of pure devotional service to the Lord, which is the topmost method of elevation. Narada told Vyasa that if he would compile a work giving exclusive attention to the glories of the unlimited Supreme Personality of Godhead in an uncompromising ...

  • You Are Not Your Body Material compassion, lamentation and tears are all signs of ignorance of the real self. Compassion for the eternal soul is self-realization. The word "Madhusūdana" is significant in this verse. Lord Kṛṣṇa killed the demon Madhu, and now Arjuna wanted Kṛṣṇa to kill the demon of misunderstanding that had overtaken him in the discharge of his duty. No one knows where compassion should be applied. Compassion for the dress of a drowning man is senseless. A man fallen in the ocean of nescience cannot be saved simply by rescuing his outward dress—the gross material body. One who does not know this and laments for the outward dress is called a śūdra, or one who laments unnecessarily. Arjuna was a kṣatriya, and this conduct was not expected from him. Lord Kṛṣṇa, however, can dissipate the lamentation of the ignorant man, and for this purpose the Bhagavad-gītā was sung by Him. This chapter instructs us in self-realization by an ***ytical study of the material body and the spirit soul, as explained by the supreme authority, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. This realization is possible when one works without attachment to fruitive results and is situated in the fixed conception of the real self.

The devotee must constantly serve Krishna favorably, as Krishna desires." PURPORT By His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada This verse is also found in Srila Rupa Gosvamis Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.1.11). As we can understand from the Bhagavad-gita (9.34 and 18.65), the Supreme Personality of Godhead wants everyone to think of Him always (man-mana bhava mad-bhaktha). Everyone should become His devotee, not the devotee of a demigod. Everyone should engage in His devotional service, including arcana (Deity worship) in the temple. Man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru. Everyone should offer obeisances, from moment to moment, to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. These are the desires of the Supreme Lord, and one who fulfils His desires favourably is actually a pure devotee. Krishna a wants everyone to surrender unto Him, and devotional service means preaching this gospel all over the world. The Lord says openly in the Bhagavad-gita (18.69), na ca tasman m***yesu kascin me priya-krttamah: One who preaches the gospel of the Bhagavad-gita for the ...

  • Nectar of Devotion Chapter 3: Eligibility of the Candidate On account of his association with mahātmās, or great souls one hundred percent in the devotional service of the Lord, one may attain a little bit of attraction for Śrī Kṛṣṇa. But at the same time one may remain very much attached to fruitive activities and material sense enjoyment and not be prepared to undergo the different types of renunciation. Such a person, if he has unflinching attraction to Kṛṣṇa, becomes an eligible candidate for discharging devotional service. This attraction for Kṛṣṇa consciousness in association with pure devotees is the sign of great fortune. It is confirmed by Lord Caitanya that only the fortunate persons, by the mercy of both a bona fide spiritual master and Kṛṣṇa, will get the seed of devotional service. In this connection, Lord Kṛṣṇa says in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Eleventh Canto, 20th Chapter, verse 8 "My dear Uddhava, only by exceptional fortune does someone become attracted to Me (Kṛṣṇa). And even if one is not completely detached from fruitive activities, or is not completely attached to devotional service, such service is quickly effective." Devotees can be divided into three classes. The first or uppermost class is described as follows: one is very expert in the study of relevant scriptures, and he is also expert in putting forward arguments in terms of those scriptures. He can very nicely present conclusions with perfect discretion and can consider the ways of devotional service in a decisive way. He understands ...
  • Krishna Katha 1 Lacking discrimination, one identifies with the material body, and consequently the mode of passion, which produces misery, takes over the mind, which is normally in the mode of goodness. As the mind evolves its function of decision and doubt, it creates intolerable hankerings for sense gratification. Unfortunate persons who are bewildered by the urges of the mode of passion become the slaves of their senses. Even though they know that the eventual result of their work will be suffering, they cannot avoid engaging in such fruitive work. A discriminating person, on the other hand, keeps himself detached from the objects of the senses and, by utilizing appropriate renunciation, takes shelter of unalloyed devotional service. Unalloyed devotional service is so spiritually relishable that a devotee becomes automatically uninterested in material enjoyment, and it brings immediate relief from all kinds of material desires and it is the beginning of all auspiciousness. Take care. Haribol.

Therefore you are advised to engage in the devotional service of Kṛṣṇa, the son of Vasudeva.
  • Sunday Satsang 4/26/2009: Eligibility of the Candidate This was the first Sunday Satsang program in our new house, with all the āśram devotees present. Today we had at least 13 online participants; that's really good. I would like to see all the Bhakta Degree Program students attend the Satsang webcast, if possible. Our friend Ziggy also showed up, and his presence was very nice. We were very inspired to preach. Today's topic is the Third Chapter of Nectar of Devotion, entitled "Eligibility of the Candidate for Accepting Devotional Service." We discussed the dynamics of how souls come to the path of devotional service, progress through the different stages of advancement, and attain complete self-realization. Our instruments are still in shipment, so we did not have a drum, but we were able to set up the keyboard and still have a very nice kīrtan. On account of his association with mahātmās, or great souls one hundred percent in the devotional service of the Lord, one may attain a little bit of attraction for Śrī Kṛṣṇa. It is confirmed by Lord Caitanya that only the fortunate persons, by the mercy of both a ...

  • Temple Ecstasy, New Govardhana, Murwillumbah Australia This is a longer video. The transcendental worship of the diety in the temple is a fundamental aspect of Bhakti Yoga. The devotee surrenders to the Lord by accepting a form of the Lord which is fashioned according to scriptural injunctions. Such worship, accompanied by the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha mantra, can never be equated to mundane fruitive work and is capable of elevating the conditioned soul to the platform of brahma bhuta, or transcendental bliss, free from all mundane anxiety.
  • HH Giriraj Swami Lecture on Chanting Pt 1 of 2 First in a two part series by HH Giriraj Swami. This is a Lecture from the Chaitanya Charitamrita, Madhya Lila, Chapter 15, Texts 102-106. === CC Madhya 15.102: After this, Ramananda Vasu and Satyaraja Khan both submitted questions at the lotus feet of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. CC Madhya 15.103: Satyaraja Khan said, "My dear Lord, being a householder and a materialistic man, I do not know the process of advancing in spiritual life. I therefore submit myself unto Your lotus feet and request You to give me orders." CC Madhya 15.104: Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu replied, "Without cessation continue chanting the holy name of Lord Krsṇa. Whenever possible, serve Him and His devotees, the Vaiṣṇavas." CC Madhya 15.105: Upon hearing this, Satyaraja said, "How can I recognize a Vaiṣṇava? Please let me know what a Vaiṣṇava is. What are his common symptoms?" CC Madhya 15.106: Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu replied, "Whoever chants the holy name of Krsṇa just once is worshipable and is the topmost human being. PURPORT Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Ṭhakura says that a person who simply chants the holy name of Kṛṣṇa once becomes perfect and should be regarded as a Vaishṇava. This is confirmed by Srila Rupa Gosvami in his Upadeshamṛta (5): krsṇeti yasya giri taḿ manasadriyeta. With such faith in the holy name one may begin a life of Krsna consciousness. But an ordinary person cannot chant the holy name of Krsna with such faith. One should accept the holy name of Krsna to be ...

Dallas, TX 2010-01-15 TRANSLATION What is realized as the Absolute Brahman is full of unlimited bliss without grief. That is certainly the ultimate phase of the supreme enjoyer, the Personality of Godhead. He is eternally void of all disturbances and fearless. He is complete consciousness as opposed to matter. Uncontaminated and without distinctions, He is the principle primeval cause of all causes and effects, in whom there is no sacrifice for fruitive activities and in whom the illusory energy does not stand.
  • Lecture - Kesava Bharati Dasa Goswami - SB 7.10.12 Kesava Bharati Dasa Goswami gave this morning's lecture on Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 7, Text 10, Verse 12. TRANSLATION It does not matter that you are in the material world. You should always, continuously, hear the instructions and messages given by Me and always be absorbed in thought of Me, for I am the Supersoul existing in the core of everyone's heart. Therefore, give up fruitive activities and worship Me. The audio is a bit rough for the first half (trying out a new mic) but improves afterwards. Dallas, TX 2008-05-28
  • The most appropriate use of human body 2/4 In this lecture, Dr. Satya Narayana Dasa translates from Sanskrit the Srimad Bhagavatam verses located in the Canto 2, Chapter 3, Verses 20 to 22 and he elaborates on them. In his class he also includes the translation and explanation of Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura's purport on the same verses. Narada told Vyasa that if he would compile a work giving exclusive attention to the glories of the unlimited Supreme Personality of Godhead in an ...
