Wig Wag and Frit Marble More messing around on Knight Bullet Torch. This time I'm making a marble. I started off striping some clear rod with black and white stringers and then heating sections and twisting in different direction. I then encased in clear and added some frit to kick it up a notch. Its not very big because my marble mold is not very big. This video is not intended to be a tutorial but it does show most all the steps in making a marble. I edit a lot of the heating out so as to keep the video under 10 minutes. The total time was a bout 25 minutes start to finish. Please Comment and Rate it if you like it.

Drummonds dry frit bath enamelling Several layers of powdered dry frit vitreous enamel are built up on a red hot bath, in the traditional way developed in the 19th century, but now using modern technology. Old chipped or worn enamel on Victorian and Edwardian baths is restored using this process. The music is Chopin's Nocturne Opus 9 No1 in B Flat Minor. When Chopin left Poland for France he was taken in a carriage from a castle that is a few miles from the factory where this bath is being re-enamelled, and the carriage is still there in a museum but you are not allowed to look inside it.

NASA Camilla SDO - Chaos at 119000 feet (March 10, 2012) Ever wondered what happens at 119000 feet, minus 83 degrees fahrenheit, air pressures akin to those on the planet Mars - and your propulsion system bursts? What happens next is a brief free fall at 500 mph before parachuting nearly 40 km to the Earth below. Here is how I experienced all of this last Saturday morning, March 10, 2012. All while carrying a solar radiation badge to measure the solar radiation impact in the Stratosphere after the M-class solar flare earlier that morning. Also with me on board; sunflower seeds. Those were a variety called "Sunspot" (Helianthus annuus). These are shorter than the more familiar giant variety and are favorites in classrooms where space is limited. All of this is real, no Hollywood, no stunt double, no camera tricks, no green screen. This is science! This is engineering! This is what YOU can do too! This is to inspire our kids. You will be able to read about our scientific findings in one of the upcoming segments of Science@NASA. Stay tuned. Credit: Earth to Sky
