PW81 Julie Girl, Mikey Taylor-Firth. Single handed Cornish monk gill-net fishery. Pisces-RFR Most large under 10m fishing boats around the UK have a crew of two or three. If you are going to successfully operate single handed, you need to be to be extremely well organised, extremely fit, and extremely targeted in what you do. Mikey Taylor-Firth, operating PW81 Julie Girl off the Lizard peninsula, is such a person, having organised and constructed the layout on the boat (including welding and boarding the pounds) for single handed operation of monk nets (only) 6-12 miles off the Lizard. On 11th October 2012, in addition to monk, there was a substantial catch of brown crab, and also lobster crawfish (all of which were borderline or undersize and returned alive), cuckoo ray, pollock and bream. Altogether, one of the tidiest operations I have evaluated for Pisces-RFR. This is a long video for those who need to see the detail. To skip to particular bits: 00.00 - 03.30 - trip out, hauling of the first anchor line 03.30 - 15.30 - hauling and extracting from net. 15.30 - 17.40 - hauling of end anchor line, recovery of dahn buoy. At the start of the sequence Mikey explains about how the net is set, depth etc 17.40 - 19.00 - taping up of lobsters, checking catch 19.00 - 19.38 - hauling of second net - actually end of sequence, hauling the end anchor line, just for the record (I was doing stills photography during the second haul) 19.38 - 20.05 - return to sea of live crawfish, washing down deck 20.05 - 25-26 - processing of the 13 monkfish (cutting out liver, tails, cheeks ...

Greenpeace Teams Up with Mozambique Government to Protect Fisheries The Indian Ocean is home to some of the world's richest tuna fishing grounds. They are a valuable resource to coastal states and an attractive fishing opportunity for foreign fleets. Unfortunately illegal and unreported fishing is a major problem in the region. For countries like Mozambique, monitoring their waters is not an easy task due to resource constraints. Greenpeace has recently been working with the Mozambican government, providing fisheries officials with a platform to monitor and patrol the country's waters.

Commercial Fishery Tactics For Carp And Silver Fish On Maggots Day ticket commercial fishery Orchard lakes gave us some great sport on light tackle, using only maggots and ground bait we where happy to catch whatever the lake had to offer us on a cold winters day. Catching carp, roach, perch with a good mix of ornamental's and F1's. Chopped worm and ground bait consisting of the peat from the worms infused with glugs used little and often to get the fish feeding and using float and feeder tactics to put together a great bag of fish. The West Coast herring spawn peaks in early March each year. Mini documentary version. Learn about this fishery @ : www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca Gill netters, herring skiffs, packers and support vessels gathered and strung out from the Comox Bar to Henry Point in Baynes Sound and Ford Cove in Lambert Channel deploying their gear in extremely favourable conditions under the auspices of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This 11 minute video was shot over an 80 minute period at sundown from various locations on the eastern shore of Denman Island. For the most part, Hornby Island is the background. "Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii) is a pelagic species which occurs in inshore and offshore waters of the North Pacific. In the eastern Pacific, herring are found from Baja California to the Beaufort Sea in Alaska. Herring mature and recruit to the spawning stock primarily between ages three and five. Within this range, age-at-recruitment tends to increase with latitude. Adult males and females migrate from the open ocean to sheltered bays around November or December, although in the far north of the range, these dates may be somewhat later. Conditions that trigger spawning are not altogether clear, but after spending weeks congregating in the deeper channels, both males and females will begin to enter shallower inter-tidal or sub-tidal waters. Preferred spawning locations are sheltered bays and ...

State of the Planet's Oceans: Decimation of the Atlantic Cod Fishery Aveiro, Portugal was the home of the world's largest long-distance fishing fleet for more than 400 years. A hard, but proud way of life that helped feed the world. By the end of the 20th century the Atlantic Cod Fishery -- one of the largest fisheries in the world -- collapsed. When it collapsed, Aveiro's economy also collapsed. Once considered an inexhaustible source of food, the oceans are now in danger of being significantly depleted. Matt Damon hosts "The State of the Planet's Oceans" as award-winning filmmakers Hal and Marilyn Weiner investigate the health and sustainability of the world's oceans and the issues affecting marine preserves, fisheries, and coastal ecosystems worldwide. * Learn more at: -- OR -- ** Join us on Facebook at *** Follow us on Twitter at:

Kincardine Salmon Fishery John McGinley presents a sumptuous guide to the wonderful Kincardine beat of the Aberdeenshire Dee in Scotland in this video from Fishing TV (). This famous salmon fishery on the 3200 acre Kincardine Estate around 28 miles from the sea is over a mile in length with three quarters of it fishable. John, who has managed the fishing for over 18 years, talks through how to get the best from it from a fly angler's perspective and reveals his favourite areas. Kincardine isn't a deep stretch, other than the famed Boat Pool which virtually always holds fish, and is a water that responds well to small fly and floating line tactics. Being on the outside of a bend the fish tend to hold middle to near side, and as such it's a beat where much of the fishing can be done from the bank without the need to wade. Take a journey with John across the Kincardine beat, delve into the angler's log with him and visit the secluded fishing lodge they have used there since 1938. Another quality video from
