Ilana's Polyatomic Ion Song! So, I couldn't find a good version to learn with so I made my own! Lyrics: Let's remember our Polyatomic Ions Well first there's nitrate, NO3-1 and that is great and then there's nitrite, NO2-1, with one less oxygen and sulfate, SO4-2 and sulfite SO3-2, see we're getting somewhere with all of this. Polyatomic Ions, phosphate is PO4-3 and there's phosphite PO3-3, with one less oxygen And don't forget perchlorate ClO4-1 not to be confused with chlorate because that one is ClO3-1 but that's not all... and now there's more We now have chlorite, which is ClO2-1 and hypochlorite, which is just ClO-1 and bromate, BrO3-1 and bromite BrO2-1 but don't forget hypobromite BrO-1 and now there's acetate, C2H3O2-1 and there's Carbonate, CO3-2 and there are still more HCO3-1 is bicarbonate CrO4-2 is chromate, dichromate is Cr2O7-2 and 2/3 done Permanganate is MnO4-1 Manganate is MnO4-2 Fe (CN) 6-3 is Ferricyanide and ferrocyanide is Fe (CN) 6-4 Polyatomic Ions hydroxide is OH-1 and cyanide is CN-1 and peroxide is O2-2 Ammonium is NH4+1 and then there's one more to learn and that is hydronium, H3O+1 and now we're done The Polyatomic Ions, they're really not so difficult now time to ace that quiz just remember what's what and you'll definitely do fine Goodbye to all and don't forget this is the end so good luck I believe you...

LUMINOL (Chemiluminescence) glow stick Two solutions are made, solution "A" composed of 5 grams of sodium hydroxide in water and 0.1 grams of luminol. Solution "B" composed of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 0.25 grams of sodium ferrocyanide. When the two solutions are mixed produces a faint blue glow. Then 10 grams potassium ferricyanide is added to the combination to produce an intense blue glow that only lasts for about 20 seconds.

Coating Cyanotype Paper Cyanotype is one of the oldest photography processes, it dates back to the 1840s and is commonly known as a "Blue Print." This video is a time lapse of me coating several pieces of water color paper with the cyanotype mixture (equal parts Ammonium Iron(III) Citrate and Potassium Ferricyanide) Check out Upcoming videos on how to expose and develope cyanotypes. Notes: Yes, I am wearing a tyvec labcoat! and also in this video I used Brown Mailing paper to separate layers, I wouldn't recommend doing that it has a wee bit of a funky effect,

The Avatar Luminol Experiment.wmv This is a demo of me and my M5A students doing the chemiluminescence experiment (Avatar Effect). Two solutions are mixed: One solution is luminol and sodium hydroxide, which is then mixed with another solution of potassium ferricyanide and hydrogen peroxide. The outcome is a glowing light effect that is often used by forensic investigators to detect trace amounts of blood left at crime scenes as it reacts with iron found in hemoglobin.

Dissolved Pop Can 01 0809 Here I show the results of a chemistry demonstration I had started in class the day before. A pop can had its pain sanded off, was emptied, refilled with water, and dangled in a beaker. The beaker was then slowly filled with hydrochloric acid to dissolve away the aluminum can. The plastic liner from inside the can is left behind.

New chemicals! I got some new chemicals from my $300.00 spending spree, including but not limited to potassium ferrocyanide and potassium thiocyanate. Included here is a test of the ferricyanides reactivity and exploration of it's physical properties. The thiocyanate was damp because the elevation changes in shipping so no immediate tests were conducted. The ferricyanide and chlorate were mixed in an undetermined ratio and heated from underneath by my new Bunsen burner. The reaction is as follows; 2KClO3 -- 2KCl + 3O2. And in a separate reaction; 2K3[Fe(CN)] -- 3K2O + Fe2O3 + 2CO2 + N2 Too lazy to make it into one equation but I know just by looking at it if you want an extremely dangerous mixture you should add 2 mole equivalents of ferricyanide for every 7 mole equivalents of chlorate or 1 mole K3[Fe(CN)] for every 3.5 of KClO3. L8R days bro's and bra's.

Chemiluminescence: Luminol Chemiluminescence of luminol. Two solutions are combined, the first solution contains luminol and sodium hydroxide. The second solution is 0.03% Hydrogen peroxide and potassium ferricyanide. The luminol and the hydrogen peroxide react to cause the chemiluminescence. The iron in potassium ferricyanide is a catalyst for the reaction. This is also used by crime scene investigators. A solution of hydrogen peroxide and luminol is placed into a spray bottle. When the solution comes into contact with blood, the iron present in hemoglobin will catalyze the reaction and it will begin to glow. If you enjoy this type of video, subscribe! Music: Kevin MacLeod

Experiment- Luminol A great experiment with great results. Luminol (in NaOH) reacts with potassium ferricyanide (in hydrogen peroxide). What happens?

Science Hideout Demonstrates Luminol Today ScienceHideout will show a demonstration on chemiluminecence- or a reaction when chemicals glow (and no, it is not radioactive). We will be using 3-aminophthalhydrazide, or luminol, as our reaction agent, and potassium ferricyanide as a catalyst that makes it glow. Not to forget hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide which set the reaction. What I am doing: I have 40 mL of water in both the beaker and the flask. The liquid I add into the beaker is a few mL of 4% sodium hydroxide. The powder being put in the beaker is luminol. I add a few mL of hydrogen peroxide to the flask. The red powder I added (only a small amount!) was potassium ferricyanide. I then turn the lights of and mix these.
