FENLAND TRAINS - THE RAILWAYS OF EAST ANGLIA We begin this DVD with an extensive look at the railways in the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire; in particular, the city of Ely and its surrounding railway routes. Filmed between 2000 and 2004 we concentrate mainly on the freight scene in these areas. The freight in both counties are mainly aggregate, intermodel, and deep sea container workings. Locomotive classes hauling these trains consist of 37, 47, 56, 57, 58, 60 and, of course, the ubiquitous class 66. In addition to these freight workings we see the newly introduced 'ONE' (formerly Anglia Railways) Train Operating Company seen in the summer of 2004. With the lowering of the Ipswich tunnel, diesel hauled passenger trains en route to London Liverpool Street were diverted through Ely. Both Anglia and ONE liveries can be seen with scenes of Ely's magnificent cathedral. Moving a little east, we filmed at various locations between Ely and Bury St Edmunds, and finally we trek north across the flat lands of the Fens with its many unobstructed locations. Many freightliners can be seen bringing lots of colour to a somewhat barren landscape. Special trains such as steam and diesel in the form of Class 55 Deltics and Class 47s can also be seen in and around the Ely area, with no fewer than 30 locations visited. With detailed location maps it all adds up to a fascinating and intensive programme. Some narration is added together with train details and head codes. Also in this DVD is a short pictorial of what else Ely has ...

Fen and Summer - Baby Love Impulsively made when I decided to skip my last class today. Should've been doing homework I expect. ;) Short and to the point - can you possibly resist these adorable little ones? Recording's not the best but, such is life. Multiple Fens, again, but they're all super cute (though the Esham twins still rock my world.) And oh my lord, Summer at 1:57.

Fen - Lashed by Storm Atmospheric Black Metal/Post-Rock - UK - album: The Malediction Fields - 2009 - - themes: Solitude, sorrow, landscape, nature - The band is named after a region in England called The Fens. The Fens have very flat and mysterious landscapes, with many marshes and wetlands. The band members grew up in this area, and find much of the inspiration for their music and themes from the atmosphere of this area. - next year 2011, Jan. a new album will be available: Epoch - ........ watch them ;) if you like their music!!!! - lyrics: Flayed by the driving rain, of black clouds scud across the sky, The world roars with rage and the very ground trembles. I watch as lightening spears the darkness, The stark outline of the trees stripped bare by winters ravaging chill. Wind screams, cutting the knives of sharpened frost, As I raise my arms to embrace the assault, All that lives cowers in the shadow of elemental wrath, Yet I stand and roar my challenge to the maelstrom. Mountains rear in the darkness, Colossal megaliths of malediction's promise, Looming, immense, all knowing, Stoic against the fury of the storm. The raging tempest shrieks of hatred, Bunched clouds toil with the need to destroy, But I will remain unmoved in the face of the assault. I welcome the pain of nature's vengeance. Eyes clenched shut, The freezing wind and stinging waters Fear my skin and slake the thirst in my yearning soul, Never have I felt so alive, Every nerve tingles, every sense razor-keen ...

Pipeline Through the Fens (1968) - extract This striking documentary focuses on the construction of the hidden conduit for North Sea gas lurking under the picturesque Norfolk fenland. 'Pipeline Through the Fens' was filmed during the 12 weeks in 1968 it took to lay 43 miles of pipeline under the county. The film (made on behalf of The Gas Council) focuses on the considerable engineering achievement involved in linking sections of pipe (each one 40 feet long, 36 inches wide and weighing 4.5 tons) and burying them 9ft below the surface. The workers scrupulous care is understandable - you really wouldn't want to be trying to find a leak later on! This dire weather is becoming a theme of this series, and the camera crews amusement with it all is wearing just a little thin. This programme features some stunning underwater footage, a UK first on camera and a section called Cat Kitchen thats full of laughs, and grim smells! A programme that you miss at your peril!

Fenland Farming 1955 DVD Fenland Farming '55 is a fascinating glimpse of a world gone by - a year in the life of a Lincolnshire farm at a time when horse-drawn carts brought trays of seed potatoes to a field where a gang of a dozen men planted them by hand, while a tractor driven ridger closed the rows behind them. We see grain crops harvested using a binder and a combine, muck spread by horse and cart, five different types of working machines, and chemicals applied to crops by a helicopter - a very modern technique for its time.
