  • An improvised Gigue for strings in Baroque - or Bach like- style It is amazing how the brain can handle musical extemporization. When all goes well, the musical phrases and styles built into the neural network by practice and experience seem to be given priority and relevance by intent held 'higher' in the same network. Just as when we talk, the 'phrases' and 'words' are selected automatically by the network to express the flow of meaning. In this effort here, performed over 10 years ago, the output reveals the limitations of this musicians experience! Nor does it follow the true Jig ( or Gigue ) form but it does flow quite nicely overall. Successful flow seems to depend on the initial formations and associated feelings in the network which thereby govern the whole process quite automatically while your awareness merely follows the flow. The process can be altered as one proceeds by a stray thought, just as when speaking one can drift off the subject, for a worse, or sometimes better, result. A Mozart or suchlike no doubt have such informed brains that there associative flow follows an overall form correctly and easily. A viewer may be amused to know that the apparent musicans in this video are artistically modified to be unidentifiable. It is for good reason that the images focus on the intruments! • The Witty and Urbane Garrison Keillor in 1985 It's rare when anyone can keep up with the gapped toothed one, let alone, match him, but the great Garrison Keillor is one who can. Don't be fooled by his laconic demeanor, GK is, inch for inch, one of the quickest minds around. One need only listend to his weekly monologues on his classic long running NPR radio program, A Prairie Home Companion, to hear him extemporize. He has notes, sure, but I've seen the show live, and he rarely looks at them. Even on radio, he looks out at the audience and you can tell his mind is constantly working. Here he is promoting one of his early books, "Lake Wobegon days", and he jousts with Dave about the New York Times bestseller list of books. Listen to his clever remarks about his non-competition Jackie Collins. Well done Gary! Even at 43, you were at the top of your Game~

Alright, change of pace, Tell the crowd about your day: Sure vent, pour pout, Cathartacize, Characterize the traumas of mediocrity that form your burden, Give us a window onto your dysfunction, Or scream "look at me" as loud as you can. I'm sorry, but I hope to stop being that kind of man, But in writing this, I've already acquiesced. So improvise: the lottery has already decreed For you to be white American and of middle class descent; That's quite the winning ticket. • Garden for businessmen In 2004 in Stockholm, Gluklya and Tsaplya mounted The Garden for Businessmen, a performance involving 12 businessmen, which posed the questions, as Gluklya puts it: What is this person except his profession? Is there any life except their business? Who are they as a human? Thats why we proposed to make a kind of dance, with them holding little girls dresses representing the more vulnerable, more fragile, part in them. The interplay between performance and sculptural object is played out in Garden for Businessman where immaculately suited professionals extemporize and perform with childrens clothing in a quintessentially modern corporate environment. In both cases the protagonists play a central role in determining the nature of the work, which again explores the complex interplay between a sensitive, internal humanity and its public face. Like the naval cadets, the businessmen, contemporary symbols of power and authority, express potential layers of tenderness and even powerlessness in a personal theatre of dress play. They are helplessly drawn into a paradigm perhaps to some degree beyond their grasp; becoming signifiers of an agenda sadly alien to the world of business. Mаrkus Williams
  • Couperin, Fr Messe à l' usage des Convents Offertoire sur les Grands Jeux It is definitely established that, due to the 1682 "Cérémonial des églises de Paris". the organists by then in charge of the parisian Great Instruments had to fit their genius in standardized musical motives and atmosphere. It was only during the "Offertoire" that those great musicians were allowed to extemporize and demonstrate their true inspiration and full technique, free from strictly mandatory limits. The "Ceremoniae parisiense ad usum omnium collegiarum, parochialium et aliarum urbis et diocesis parisiensis" set severe rules concerning the interventions of the organist, its when, as well as the musical criation itself. So, even in the Second Mass, quite far from the strictness of the first one, the "Offertoire" is a break in the submission to those rules. One can judge by the results...

  • Shiny O (hauling chanty) This is my quick 'n' dirty take on a chanty that was documented by one Hatfield in a 1946 issue of JAF. After the first verse, I immediately depart from the given text and extemporize in chanty style.

  • Love never felt so good (Michael Jackson) - cover 2010 With brand new lyrics and a sweet bridge that would make the King proud and laugh :) et qui me vaudraient bien un doctorat honorifique de l'ENPC :) Love never felt so good (2010) (M.Jackson, P.Anka, Fidilly, Joann, l'Automne, la Pluie) Original song by Michael Jackson and Paul Anka This original demo illustrates quite well MJ's creative process. Like other Motown greats like Marvin and Stevie, music and rhythm woud always come first, and he would then extemporize the lyrics. That is why most of his demo songs are 'pure' stream-of-consciousness, with a lot of nonsensical words :) Unlike the lame 1985 version of the song released by Johnny Mathis, I attempted to keep the incredibly instictive vocal rhythm of the original demo, and I added this youthful mellifluous bridge that really makes a difference :) We are doing a non acoustic, plugged version of the song, with some other surprising rhythms that is coming up very soon. I hope all the MJ fans will enjoy this modest proposal. Verse 1: Baby, love never felt so good And I doubt it ever could Feel any better so hold me Oh baby Love never felt so fine Who'd have thought it would be mine To hold you near me, Girl, you thrill me And our life is gonna be just fine, Gotta shout, gotta sing, c'est la vie I can't believe it Chorus: Baby, Every night will find me Every day will find me Loving you my baby I'm in ecstasy Oh is it a fantasy? It's so mighty mighty crazy Cause love never felt so good Verse 2: Oh baby ...

  • Manodharma Sangeetham Tanam & Niraval - TRSubramanyam Manodharma Sangeetham Tanam & Niraval - The hallmark of Carnatic Classical music is Manodharma Sangeetham, which is improvisation of music. It is the most unique and spectacular feature of Indian music. The true challenge of a musician lies in his ability to create and extemporize on the spot, within the framework of codified principles. Manodharma Sangeetham comprises of Raga Alapana, Tanam, Niraval and Kalpana Swaram. Tanam, which is also called Madhyamakalam is a very lively and interesting aspect of Manodharma Sangeetham. There is no specific time measure, but an inherent rhythm prevails. It is usually rendered just before the Pallavi (Ragam Tanam Pallavi or RTP) in a concert. Niraval is a series of improvisations made in a musical theme or sahithya. It is done in kritis as well as for a Pallavi (RTP). Niraval is a judicious combination of all the aspects of Manodharma Sangeetham put into one. This makes it one of the most difficult aspects of creative music. Tanam and Niraval require years of practice, listening and guidance under an excellent Guru before one can aim to perform them in concerts. This product has the maestro explaining and demonstrating a systematic approach to Tanam and Niraval, the techniques, the dos and the donts that a student must know, while attempting them. He has elucidated Niraval in different talas like Adi, Rupakam and Misra Chapu. His explanations are lucid and logical, making it simple and easy to learn. A highly ...

This newly formed collaboration is more like a project as they've merged for this tour.Supersilent is the Norwegian avant-garde/electronica group known for their musical improvisations. Truly an amazing, and most unusual performance; high powered, and brutal note combinations. Some areas were soft, and others were loud and dramatic. The idea was to play one song; extemporize, improvise, energize. No two shows are the same. Helge Sten plays live electronics, synthesizers, electric guitar. He sat with his back toward the audience; never being blitzed by blinding, annoying camera flashes; not that many flashes really. More annoying is the chattering types that go to a show, and talk like elephants. Arve Henkisen added flair with trumpet, additional percussions & alien rhythmic vocals. • Big Bird Word Spitter Funny Freestyle Video funny freestyle rap brought to you by your monitor. If you find yourself pondering the meaning of these arranged of english words, here's a little information for your brain. Philosophically, improvisation often focuses on bringing one's personal awareness "into the moment," and on developing a profound understanding for the action one is doing. This fusion of "awareness" and "understanding" brings the practitioner to the point where he or she can act with a range of options that best fit the situation, even if he or she has never experienced a similar situation. The study of the skills and techniques of improvisation can strongly influence one's competence in business, personal life, and/or in the arts[citation needed]. The mental and emotional states needed to practice the art of improvisation are very similar to the practice taught in the religious and philosophical art of Zen, and many of the same concepts are used in both practices[citation needed]. Although it is not necessary for the study and practice of either improvisation or Zen, the study of one often gives new insight into the practice of the other[citation needed]. Keith Johnstone, a teacher of improvisational theatre, often relates the two when teaching about improv[citation needed]. Techniques of improvisation are widely trained in the entertainment arts; for example, music, theatre and dance. To "extemporize" or "ad lib" is basically the same as improvising. Colloquial terms such as "let's play it by ear ...

  • When Your Heart Speaks To Mine A love theme that I composed in 2007. This piece was performed at my concert on Sunday, 22 February 2009 at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona. My computer had crashed some time during the preparation for this concert, causing me to lose the professional score that I had prepared. During the hasty process of transferring the score back to the computer, I had left out the last lines of text (which come after the piano solo). Fortunately, I remembered most of it, but I had to extemporize some of it on the spot. The correct text is "My heart is crying out to yours, with trembling lips and piteous sorrow..." That problem has since been rectified, fortunately. Here, I am accompanied by a most accomplished pianist, Mrs. Yanique Leiba-Ebanks. The piece is taken a bit slower than I would have liked, but is nonetheless effective.
