  • How to Exfoliate to Get Rid of Flakiness, Pimples and Get Brighter Skin See exfoliants: bit.ly Get 10% by following our blog: blog.spaboutique.ca Spa Boutique Esthetician talks about the importance of exfoliation. Exfoliating is an easy step that should be in every skin care routine. It gets rid of the build up of dead skin cells. It can help to improve acne, get rid of flaky skin and even out the skin tone. 1)Sensitive Skin should exfoliate 1-2 times a week. Normal to oily should do it 2-3 2) Let them exfoliant do the work. Using more or pressing harder will not make it work better. You don't want to irritate the skin OR go through product too fast. 3) Exfoliate after cleansing. You can do it in the morning or at night, whichever you prefer. 4) Always follow with a moisturizer. This keeps the skin balanced. The act of exfoliating is usually a bit drying. People who are prone to acne need to moisturize too. Use an oil free one to balance out the oil production in the skin. Mechanical: Scrubby beads. Find ones that are spherical. Stay away from crushed nuts or pits (yes that apricot scrub smells lovely but it's actually making little cuts in your skin) Gommage: Not for sensitive skin. Apply a thin layer to the skin, let it get tacky or dry. Hold the skin tight and then rub the product off in small circular motions. Follow with a toner and moisturizer. Enzymatic: These are left on the skin. The enzymes from pineapple (bromelain) or papaya (papain) will loosen the dead skin cells, making them easy to wash away. AHA: Acids derived from fruits ...

  • DermTV - Can Exfoliating Cause You to Run Out of Skin [ Epi #360] Recently, a viewer asked Dr. Schultz if exfoliating can cause you to run out of skin. They asked that since exfoliation removes the uppermost, dead layer of skin cells, and the hayflick limit states that your cells can only divide a certain number of times, when you've surpassed that number, won't you run out? Since exfoliation is the most important therapeutic treatment you can do for your skin, you can guess what Dr. Schultz's answer to this question was, and in this episode, Dr. Schultz explains why exfoliating is safe and why the hayflick limit doesn't apply. Connect with DermTV [TRANSCRIPT] Many of you know how passionate I am about the virtues of exfoliation. So yes... I'll say it again... Exfoliation is the single most important therapeutic treatment you can do for your skin, whether for facial rejuvenation, acne control or prevention of precancerous growths. But... can exfoliation cause you to run out of skin? Well, consider this... The purpose of exfoliation is to remove accumulated excess old dead cells. This causes your skin to increase its production of new vibrant healthy cells which is technically called "increased epidermal cell turnover." However, as many of you know, the Hayflick Limit says, "Ther's a limit to the number of times a fully differentiated human cell divides. And that limit is about 40 to 60 divisions or replications and applies to all human cell types that have been studied." So this might make you ...

  • DermTV - Waxing and Exfoliation [ Epi #386] Do you wax? Do you exfoliate? If you answered, "Yes!" to both of those questions then the question of can you wax and exfoliate has probably crossed your mind, in addition to, when is the best time to exfoliate in relation to waxing? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz answers those questions about waxing and exfoliation. Connect with DermTV [TRANSCRIPT] The subject of waxing before or after exfoliation comes up frequently as... First, if I regularly exfoliate, is it ok to wax? And second, if I have just waxed, is it ok to exfoliate? I'll take the confusion out of this subject with one simple, somewhat out of the box statement: waxing is a form of physical exfoliation! Bet you never thought of it that way, but for the same reason that the wax grabs and holds onto the hair, it does the same thing to the upper layers of skin cells. So when the wax gets pulled off, it removes both the hair and the upper layers of skin cells which also are adherent to the wax. So now that you're thinking of wax as an exfoliant, lets revisit waxing before or after exfoliation. First, if I regularly exfoliate, is it ok to then wax? Well, since regular exfoliation removes many of the layers of dead skin cells and exposes live layers, the wax may then grab those live layers and pull them off, which in fact is what usually causes a waxing burn, not the hot temperature of the wax. So... If you exfoliate, as I hope you do, and you in fact exfoliate in ...
