  • Ines Brunn Busycle Ride Rox Palo Alto, CA Ines Brun, the beyond epic German bike acrobat sensation, who can do things on a bicycle that challenge one's imagination as well as the ability to explain that which has occurred, rode on and with the Busycle here Tuesday July 22, 2008! The excitement for what took place still engenders conversation. I mean we're talking about an athlete and body movement magician whose impromptu street performances were so powerful, and at the same time compelling that she stopped traffic and brought countless neighbors out of their homes to witness her magic acts. On our Busycle way across town to hear the second to last show in the Palo Alto summer concert series, the spontaneous street theater that broke out along the way made us privy to an excitement that few people will ever get a chance to view. • How To Cook Lizard Eggs In this video, I will show you how to find and eat the eggs of the Central Ohio Reticulated Lizard. The CORL is one of North America's most elusive reptile species, and finding an entire nest of its eggs is exceedingly rare. I've documented the process so that you can all share the beauty of this endangered, tasty creature and its eggs. The Central Ohio Reticulated Lizard's closest relative, taxologically speaking, is the Reticulated Collard Lizard (Crotaphytus Reticulatus) which is chiefly found in southern Texas. The Collard Lizard's eggs are bitter and generally unpalatable, but the specialized corn-based diet of the CORL engenders an egg with all the depth of flavor of roe (caviar), without the characteristic "stinky egg" smell of cooked chicken or duck eggs. Since there are only EXTREMELY limited numbers of this lizard, I have let my lawn grow longer and taller than usual, to encourage the local population to make it their home. Lucky for me, and for you, viewers, I chanced upon several of these eggs. The next time you are in central Ohio in the springtime, look around. If you see a bit of white popping out from an unmown tuft of grass, you too may experience the deliciosity that is the Central Ohio Reticulated Lizard Egg. And, in case you actually read this description, you should know that in addition to making these videos, I make DAILY comics at . They are awesome. I'm not even going to lie.
  • Afghanistan: The Other War LAV3Strykers Ruin Effort 1 PBS Documentary Afghanistan: The Other War reveals that the emasculation of western armies into wheeled trucks like the LAV-III/Stryker to not LOOK war-like (ie; look less capable, which they are) cannot even overcome the battle against earth terrain to have basic mobility to reach people in closed terrains in jeopardy at the hands of sub-national groups rebelling against the nation-state. You look less capable means you ARE less capable and being weak with a "glass jaw" neither protects the good civilians nor engenders respect from the enemy. "Nation-building" in war zones in wheeled trucks is a disaster. Also telling is the British Multi-National Force Commander's obsession with self; who cares how history will judge him? The Mission and the Men should come before "Me". By being in road-bound wheeled trucks, the NATO MN forces have a "glass jaw" that makes it impossible to "turn- the-other-cheek" so they are trigger-happy trying to use firepower to compensate for a lack of M113 Gavin-type tracked cross-country mobility (avoid road troubles in first place) and armored protection. When NATO forces are caught red-handed needlessly killing Afghan civilians, as a Cover-Your-Ass (CYA) politician--maybe without a technotactical grasp of what his subordinates are doing--he gives the standard c'est la guerre (it is war, blame it not our incompetence or willful wrong-doing) excuses sure to infuriate the people whom we want to stay out of the Taliban's camp. He offers that the ...

  • BOTTEGA VENETA CREATES A TRAVEL FILM WITH CHRISTIAN WEBER Bottega Veneta has created a short film on the subject of travel, made in collaboration with the photographer and director Christian Weber. The film, entitled "Viaggio Notturno," is set to debut in April on the brand's web site and select other online venues. It is the centerpiece of a new travel-themed digital campaign for the luxury goods brand, focusing attention on Bottega Veneta's unique array of luggage and travel accessories. "Viaggio Notturno" is a brief and enigmatic meditation on travel and the possibilities it engenders. It follows two individuals, a man and a woman, in the suite of an elegant hotel. Whether they are in the same space at the same time is unclear. Indeed, the creation of a narrative is left to the viewer. What is clear is simply and evocatively the allure and romance of the journey. Shot in New York City in February, 2011, "Viaggio Notturno" is a departure for Bottega Veneta, whose other videos focus on the artis*** techniques and collaborative processes that define the brand. More romance than reportage, it features an original score composed by the Texas-based instrumental ensemble Balmorhea.

  • UFO UPDATE !! RUSSIAN UFO FILES DECLASSIFIED !! NOORY / NICK POPE !! 3 V. THE PROLIFERATION OF SIN 1865 Sin creates a proclivity to sin; it engenders vice by repetition of the same acts. This results in perverse inclinations which cloud conscience and corrupt the concrete judgment of good and evil. Thus sin tends to reproduce itself and reinforce itself, but it cannot destroy the moral sense at its root. 1866 Vices can be classified according to the virtues they oppose, or also be linked to the capital sins which Christian experience has distinguished, following St. John Cassian and St. Gregory the Great. They are called "capital" because they engender other sins, other vices.138 They are pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth or acedia. 1867 The catechetical tradition also recalls that there are "sins that cry to heaven": the blood of Abel,139 the sin of the Sodomites,140 the cry of the people oppressed in Egypt,141 the cry of the foreigner, the widow, and the orphan,142 injustice to the wage earner.143 1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them: - by participating directly and voluntarily in them; - by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them; - by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so; - by protecting evil-doers. 1869 Thus sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary ...

  • ACIM Lesson 013 - A meaningless world engenders fear A Course In Miracles Workbook for Students Lesson 013 - A meaningless world engenders fear Today's idea is really another form of the preceding one, except that it is more specific as to the emotion aroused. Actually, a meaningless world is impossible. Nothing without meaning exists. However, it does not follow that you will not think you perceive something that has no meaning. On the contrary, you will be particularly likely to think you do perceive it. Recognition of meaninglessness arouses intense anxiety in all the separated ones. It represents a situation in which God and the ego "challenge" each other as to whose meaning is to be written in the empty space that meaninglessness provides. The ego rushes in frantically to establish its own ideas there, fearful that the void may otherwise be used to demonstrate its own impotence and unreality. And on this alone it is correct. It is essential, therefore, that you learn to recognise the meaningless, and accept it without fear. If you are fearful, it is certain that you will endow the world with attributes that it does not possess, and crowd it with images that do not exist. To the ego illusions are safety devices, as they must also be to you who equate yourself with the ego. The exercises for today, which should be done about three or four times for not more than a minute or so at most each time, are to be practised in a somewhat different way from the preceding ones. With eyes closed, repeat today's idea to yourself ...

  • Obama Backs Mosque Near Ground Zero[AP].flv "Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities -- particularly in New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. The pain and suffering experienced by those who lost loved ones is unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground. But let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are. The writ of our Founders must endure. We must never forget those who we lost so tragically on 9/11, and we must always honor those who have led our response to that attack -- from the firefighters who charged up smoke-filled staircases, to our troops who are serving in Afghanistan today. And let us always remember who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for. Our enemies respect no freedom of religion. Al Qaeda's cause is not Islam -- it is a gross distortion of ...
  • The Simpsons Arcade iPhone Game review The classic Simpsons beat-'em-up arcade game engenders a lot of fond memories and that's precisely what Electronic Arts hoped to mine with their new Simpsons Arcade for the iPhone. It is not a port, though. It is a retro-styled brawler in the vein of Battletoads, Final Fight, and any host side-scrolling bruisers of that era. As homage to the genre, Simpsons Arcade is a success. However, as a compelling game over the long term, a lack of multiplayer -- which was 75-percent of the fun in games like Double Dragon -- and having Homer locked into the lead role weakens Simpsons Arcade. Many Simpsons games falter due to a distinct shortage of authenticity. Publishers think they can get away with dropping Bart into a formula game, slap the Simpsons logo on the box, and count on goodwill toward the long-running cartoon to bring in some fat checks. EA's iPhone Simpsons may have a ridiculous set-up -- plans for a secret sinister project are shared with some of Springfield's most influential citizens before the USB drive is placed in a doughnut that inadvertently finds its way into Homer's grubby paws -- but at least the game looks like an episode that just happens to have controls mapped over it. The appearance of over 25 of Springfield's recognizable citizens means you will likely confront your favorite before the six stages are up. As a beat-'em-up, Simpsons works. The controls are simple but very good. Through a series of button taps, Homer lays into hundreds of suited menaces ...
  • Living an Ethical Life on LIVING SMART with Patricia Gras Renowned ethicist Dr. Daryl Koehn teaches us the importance of ethics in our personal lives and our society. She discusses, among other things, the state of ethics in the US, where to draw the line between what is acceptable and what is not, and how much grey area is associated with this. An ethical society, suggests Dr. Koehn, begins at the level of the individual. But how is one person to start an ethical movement? She explains, noting that an awareness of ethics combats everyday anxiety and engenders a feeling of calm.

  • ACIM Lesson 053 - Review of Ideas 11-15 A Course In Miracles Workbook for Students Lesson 053 - Review of Ideas 11-15 Today we will review the following: (11) My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world. Since the thoughts of which I am aware do not mean anything, the world that picture them can have no meaning. What is producing this world is insane, and so is what it produces. Reality is not insane, and I have real thoughts as well as insane ones. I can therefore see a real world, if I look to my real thoughts as my guide for seeing. (12) I am upset because I see a meaningless world. Insane thoughts are upsetting. They produce a world in which there is no order anywhere. Only chaos rules a world that represents chaotic thinking, and chaos has no laws. I cannot live in peace in such a world. I am grateful that this world is not real, and that I need not see it at all unless I choose to value it. And I do not choose to value what is totally insane and has no meaning. (13) A meaningless world engenders fear. The totally insane engenders fear because it is completely undependable, and offers no grounds for trust. Nothing in madness is dependable. It holds out no safety and no hope. But such a world is not real. I have given it the illusion of reality, and have suffered from my belief in it. Now I choose to withdraw this belief, and place my trust in reality. In choosing this, I will escape all the effects of the world of fear, because I am acknowledging that it does not exist. (14) God did not ...

  • Building America: Who should Control Urban Growth? www.brown.edu Speakers: James Howard Kunstler and Randal O'Toole How should our cities grow? Who should control development: planners or markets? If there is any one distinguishing physical feature of the North American metropolis it is the sprawl of the suburbs over the countryside. This sprawl is accentuated by the fact that control over zoning decisions is left in the hands of individual suburban municipalities. The multi-centered metropolis hinders any efforts to control metropolitan growth, to channel the growth into areas designed for it, and to preserve other areas for permanent productive and recreational green spaces. Urban sprawl is associated with total dependence on the automobile for transportation, segregation between the impoverished and the affluent, redundant infrastructure, and excessive negative environmental impacts. The urban sprawl debate engenders fundamental concerns about local government and 'the race to the bottom', the freedom of markets in land use and development, how to protect the environment, the government's role in promoting exclusion versus access, and the role of place-making in civic engagement.

She graduated from the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College in 2009 with a BA in Urban Studies. She has served as an Intern at the Office of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, a Public Service Scholar at the Office of the Mayor in NYC, and a Summer Intern with the Ford Foundation. Amanda is currently working with Narativ, Inc, a consultancy specializing in effective communication through storytelling. Amanda is also a trainer with Story-to-College and a Peace Mover with Dance4Peace. Storytelling is a vital yet oft under-appreciated tool for effective conflict resolution. "Stories communicate values, beliefs, hopes, fears, and dreams of a people in a way that engenders respect and understanding in the listener" (Duryea, Potts. 1993 p. 388). The art of storytelling has a psychological and neurological basis that explains our natural human predilection for narrative. • HECKLER at AFI FEST 2007 presented by Audi DIR: Michael Addis PROD: Michael Addis, Jamie Kennedy CO-PROD: Chris Roletter ED: Tom McArdle, Alex Ward FEATURING: Jamie Kennedy, David Cross, George Lucas, Bill Maher, Mike Ditka, Rob Zombie Although the exact details have been lost to history, one imagines that the first critic judgment was closer in form to a Bronx cheer than to Aristotle's Poetics. Both significant and uproariously funny, Michael Addis's documentary focuses on this age-old antipathy between performers and their audiences, exploring where it comes from and what it ultimately means. Their resulting equivocation, not to mention our discomfort, is worthy of Larry David, or perhaps a White House press secretary. As Addis and Kennedy deepen their investigation, they discover that in the 21st century, criticism has been democratized in ways that are both inspiring and terrifying. Brutal, brash and surreal, HECKLER is a film that will challenge you as it delights. Just be careful what you post about it when you get home...
