"Empathy" - Sneaker Pimps Lyrics: Her innocence above me Today is dead she's around my head Between my history between my headphones This is her home forever her home But i can't be her brother To empower her to become her Trawl through this forgiveness My memory's so empathy low This attitude beneath her It's evident it denies us Proves herself to be closer But not me forever not me This sickness avoids all cure Imperfection my downfall Learn myself through symptoms My memory's so Empathy low

Rich People Have Less Empathy - Study Looking for empathy and support? You're more likely to get it from a poor person than you are from a rich one, according to new research published in Psychological Science. In a series of experiments, the new study found that lower-class people were better at reading emotions on others' faces — one measure of what researchers call empathic accuracy — than people in the upper class. "A lot of what we see is a baseline orientation for the lower class to be more empathetic and the upper class to be less [so]," says Michael Kraus, a co-author of the study and a postdoctoral student at the University of California, San Francisco. (More on : Battle of the Bris: A Move to Outlaw Circumcision in San Francisco) Why might that be? "Lower-class environments are much different from upper-class environments," explains Kraus. "Lower-class individuals have to respond chronically to a number of vulnerabilities and social threats. You really need to depend on others so they will tell you if a social threat or opportunity is coming and that makes you more perceptive of emotions."

The Empathic Civilization - Global Consciousness The new distributed communication revolution not only organizes distributed renewable energies, but also changes human consciousness. The information communication technologies (ICT) revolution is quickly extending the central nervous system of billions of human beings and connecting the human race across time and space, allowing empathy to flourish on a global scale, for the first time in history. Whether in fact we will begin to empathize as a species will depend on how we use the new distributed communication medium. While distributed communications technologies-and, soon, distributed renewable energies - are connecting the human race, what is so shocking is that no one has offered much of a reason as to why we ought to be connected. We talk breathlessly about access and inclusion in a global communications network but speak little of exactly why we want to communicate with one another on such a planetary scale. What's sorely missing is an overarching reason that billions of human beings should be increasingly connected. Toward what end? The only feeble explanations thus far offered are to share information, be entertained, advance commercial exchange and speed the globalization of the economy. All the above, while relevant, nonetheless seem insufficient to justify why nearly seven billion human beings should be connected and mutually embedded in a globalized society. The idea of even billion individual connections, absent any overall unifying ...
Natural Morality - Evolving Empathy (Connection & Cooperation) "The greatest good is the knowledge of the union which the mind has with the whole of nature." - Spinoza Beyond Speciesism. "Empathy and solidarity have held human groups together for ages. Admittedly, these groups were small. In both animals and humans empathy is biased. It is always stronger for the in-group than the out-group, stronger for one's own family than for nonrelatives. These biases are not hard to explain in evolutionary terms and have also been found in animal studies. For example, we conducted an experiment with capuchin monkeys in which they could choose between an option that rewarded themselves or one that rewarded themselves plus a neighbor sitting next to them. Guess which option they preferred? They went with the prosocial option even though it gave them no extra food: they were just happy to see another get food, we assume. But in the same study we also found that if they were paired with a monkey they didnt know, their prosocial tendencies vanished, and they became quite selfish. I think humans act the same, so that it is a real challenge to build societies of the size that we have. We still have the psychology of a primate that evolved in smaller groups, even though now we live among millions of strangers. In order to do so successfully we need to rely on a blend of old psychology that makes us empathize with others and an appeal to what is good for all of us. " Frans De Waal "There is no fundamental difference between man ...

Empathy.... Dear John, I have discovered that a capacity for empathy is hard-wired into humans. This means they are designed for goodness and effective moral choices. The only trouble is that political and religious ideology can be used to override natural empathy. Humans then can be led to hate, kill, and destroy in the name of God.
TEDxPSU - Sam Richards - A Radical Experiment in Empathy Sam Richards is a sociologist and award-winning teacher who has been inspiring undergraduate students at Penn State since 1990. Every semester, 725 students register for his Race and Ethnic Relations course, one of the most popular classes at Penn State and the largest of its kind in the country. Through his natural ability of seeing a subject from many angles, Richards encourages students to engage more fully with the world and to think for themselves — something he did not do until his third year in college. Because of his passion for challenging students to open their minds, an interviewer recently referred to him as "an alarm clock for eigh***-year-olds." His career began at the age of 24 when he was hired to teach a cybernetics course — just 15 minutes before the first class meeting. He remembers walking into the room without having had a moment to create a lesson plan and greeting his students, "Welcome to the course. I'm your instructor. And if you have no idea what cybernetics is, you're not alone — because I don't either." This characteristic willingness to be playfully transparent in the classroom, along with a talent for making complex ideas understandable and relevant, is the foundation of his success as a teacher. Richards is also the co-director of the World in Conversation Project at Penn State, whose mission is to create a kind of dialogue about social and cultural issues that invites the unexamined, politically incorrect thoughts of participants to the ...

apathy and empathy "If I were to give you the pieces of me, could you put me back together and still call me whole?" --------------------------- oo1. Okay, I lied. Closing In wasn't the next big project. But this is what happens when you listen to your iPod at three in the morning and hear 'Whats Left of Me'. It is SUCH an Axel/Roxas song it's not even funny. I usually don't care for Nick Lachey, but this is an undeniably perfect song. Really screamed everything about a Nobody. oo2. Song: Whats Left of Me Artist: Nick Lachey Clips: kh- Program: Vegas Time taken: 'bout a week More to come oo3. Like most of my Axel and Roxas videos, I take a twist on the reality of it all. Starts out as usual, Roxas struggling to remember Axel. The images become clearer. But so do the feelings. Axel suffers through loneliness and his memories of Roxas and his own false existence, which up until Roxas appeared, consisted of running away from the memories of his other, Reno. In the end, Roxas remembers everything and fights for the chance to see Axel again, only to have him die. He watches Axel die before him, his memories all that's left. oo4: Timeline to explain any confusing clips, otherwise I think you can interpret 00:27-41 Axel refusing to let Roxas go after the ol' 'No one would miss me' talk. 1:00-1:10 Roxas knows he doesn't have anything to offer Axel without his memories, but he offers what's left of him. Axel is apprehensive that it's another lie. 1:23- 1:26 Axel running from his other, Reno ...
