Shell CEO: Carbon emissions regulation necessary to make mar If governments do not intervene, industries will meet the growing demands for energy in the cheapest way possible, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will increase. That puts Jeroen van der Veer, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell plc, one of the world's leading petroleum companies, in an odd position: a leading capitalist campaigning for more government regulation.

IMRI & Positron Emission Tomography: A New Tool for Biomedical Imaging? Simon Cherry [Professor of Bioengineering, UC Davis] Abstract: Biomedical imaging technologies have revolutionized medicine over the past century and have become indispensable tools in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of diseases, as well as in basic and preclinical research in animal models. Each imaging modality has its own characteristic strengths and weaknesses, and for this reason, there has been a growing trend towards hybrid imaging devices that can integrate the advantages of two different imaging technologies into a single instrument. This presentation will trace the development of hybrid magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) scanners, a new technology that promises to deliver unique imaging capabilities into the biomedical research field, and ultimately into clinical diagnostics. The challenges in integrating these two imaging techniques will be discussed, and early imaging data from prototype systems presented.
Zero Emissions - Never Burn Anything - 1 of 2: Buildings Anything that burns anything is NOT GREEN. REDUCING toxic, climate-changing emissions is good, but INSUFFICIENT, We must rapidly learn to NEVER BURN wood, coal, oil, natural gas, or any type of biofuel. There is 10000 times more Clean, Green, Free-Fuel Sunshine, Wind, Hydroelectric, and Geothermal Energy abundantly available than ALL of the highly-polluting, expensive, declining, UNSUSTAINABLE Deadly Fossil-Fuels being burned today. We demonstrated the technology to do it all cost-effectively decades ago. Part 1 of 2 focuses on Buildings (our highest priority), and Part 2 of 2 deals with Zero Emission Transportation. Emission testing New emission testing equipment from Lysanda suggests that stated carbon emissions, like mpg, are a bit of a lottery... In an exclusive experiment, Auto Express has put a car manufacturer's CO2 claims to the test. Using a new device that calculates emissions under real world driving conditions, we've been able to see exactly how much CO2 a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi emits on the road. Developed by software engineers at Lysanda the technology plugs directly into the car's On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) port, ***yses engine data and predicts emissions. Our gentle drive along B-roads and A-roads replicated a typical motorist's journey and we returned an average CO2 reading of around 170g/km -†some 43g/km more than the manufacturer's claim of 127g/km. Hard acceleration pushed this figure past 390gkm - more than the average CO2 output of a supercharged V8-engined Range Rover Sport -†but gentle coasting saw a reading of around 70g/km. Commenting, a spokesman for Ford said: "The ability to hit the average CO2 targets we set as manufacturers is entirely within the driver's remit and anything that helps drivers to do this is to be applauded." Eco-Log's initial use will be within the fleet industry where the system can identify heavy-footed drivers, helping to cut fuel consumption and the companies CO2 output. The system could also feature in private vehicles too, potentially being used for pay-as-you-pollute road charging. Read more:

Organized Crime in Charge of EU Carbon Trade, Europol Says Report by Raymond Frenken, EUX.TV Script: First, there was ClimateGate - the scandal with hacked emails suggesting scientists have abused data for research on global warming. Now, another international climate scandal is emerging that may have an impact on the talks in Copenhagen. Europes top police body Europol, the closest thing that European Union has to the American Fbi, has exposed a massive fraud with the unions official market in carbon credits, the Emission Trading System. The fraud is costing tax payers in a handful of European countries more than five billion euro - 7 billion dollars - and raises doubts about the effectiveness of carbon trading as a measure to curb emissions. Europol director Rob Wainwright issued the following statement: These criminal activities endanger the credibility of the European Union Emission Trading System and lead to the loss of significant tax revenue for governments. Police authorities in Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom have worked together in what Europol calls a process to identify and disrupt the organised criminal structures behind these fraud schemes. Lets see if we can explain the scheme, using this graphic provided by Europol. The fraud is based on a what is tax experts and investigators call as a Carroussel fraud with missing traders. This carroussel generates money by stealing value added tax from governments. The first step of the criminals is to open a trading account with a ...

EnviroMission aims to be one of Australia's leading producers of clean renewable energy. EnviroMission holds the proprietary rights to Solar Tower technology, a large-scale renewable energy technology based on simple fundamentals of physics -- hot air rises. Solar Tower technology has the potential to offer competitive renewable energy with equal reliability to fossil fuel generators. A single 200MW Solar Tower power station will provide enough electricity to power around 400000 households. The energy output will represent an annual saving of more than 1960000 tonnes of greenhouse CO2 gases from entering the environment when compared to brown coal emissions in Victoria. The greenhouse savings equate to the removal of approximately 500000 cars from the road. The Australian Solar Tower project consists of six distinct phases, the first two of which (project optimization and pre-feasibility commercialization) have already been completed. The third phase (final feasibility), paving the way for the implementation of the next three phases (final design, construction, and commercial operation).
