BREAKING: Toyota's chief test driver dies behind wheel of LFA in Germany We don't have much in the way of details yet, but according to a report out of Germany, Toyota's chief test driver has died in a crash on highway 410 near the Nurburgring after veering into the oncoming lane and colliding with two others test drivers driving a BMW. While the two BMW test drivers survived the crash, the yet-unnamed Toyota driver died behind the wheel of the recently spied LFA Nurburgring Edition he was driving. The report says that the driver of the LF-A was 67 years old and Toyota's chief test driver, which leads us to believe that he is Hiromu Naruse, In addition to being the company's chief test driver, Naruse is also Akio Toyoda's personal driver and the Godfather of the LFA. More information should be forthcoming. ******************UPDATE*UPDATE*UPDATE*UPDATE********************** According to reports, Toyota's chief test driver, 67-year-old Hiromu Naruse, has died in a crash on highway 410 near the famed Nürburgring race track in Germany. Driving with backseat drivers! I couldn't sit close enough with the shoulder seatbelt strap on and I thought I had the lapbelt on until I realized in the video I don't. Duh, so thats what that dinging noise was! I was so nervous I can't believe I got away with that! When I first heard it, I did not realize it was from the late 70's, as it still sounds fresh today. Although a world-wide hit, amazingly it failed to reach the UK Top 40, due to reasons mentioned below. Sniff 'n' the Tears is a British rock band perhaps best known for their song "Driver's Seat", a hit in many countries (including number eleven on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart). The exception was the UK itself where a problem with EMI's pressing plant meant that the single was not available following the band's appearance on Top of the Pops and it peaked just outside the Top 40. Fickle Heart, the album containing "Driver's Seat", was followed by three more for the Chiswick record label: The Game's Up (1980), Love/Action (1981), and Ride Blue Divide (1982). Singer and songwriter Paul Roberts went on to make two solo albums for Sonet Records, City Without Walls (1985) and Kettle Drum Blues (1987). When an advertising campaign saw "Driver's Seat" top the Dutch charts in 1992, Roberts took Sniff 'n' the Tears out on the road in the Netherlands and Germany, followed by a new album No Damage Done. Since then Roberts put out one more record, 2001's Underground, and is currently working on new material. "Driver's Seat" was featured on the soundtrack to the 1997 film, Boogie Nights. The band has various musicians, but the original member is lead singer and songwriter Paul Roberts.
