Mr Driller G ~ 500m Perfect play speedrun Not a high score play, more of a gameplay demonstration. Still a nice run in spite of all the errors and lack of finesse. You can clearly see my distraction at the 400m point. If I bothered to edit it I wouldn't leave in all the loading sections before the hi-score chart, they aren't really needed for authenticity. Hope you enjoy it anyway! This is the third game in the series, originally released for Arcade and only ported to the Playstation in Japan. While each version of the game has great additional modes; for the original game-mode, it is the best version by far in my opinion. It is also worth noting that the console versions get considerably faster than the handheld releases. I guess processing power, and more importantly screen real-estate attribute to this.

Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits - America (2000m) run This is a run of me playing through and completing the America stage of Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits for the Nintendo DS (though this was done on a DS emulator). I was one air short of getting a perfect air bonus which really really annoys me. The run took about 18 minutes to complete, so i split the run into two halves running simultaneously side by side and very slightly sped up to match the end of the music. The music is a MIDI rendition of a piece called "Rhythm Song" by Robert Smadbeck, a fairly standard solo 4-mallet marimba piece, with electronic accompaniment that i did whilst a masters student at the University of Oregon. It was designed to be a "tape accompaniment" to a live performer playing the marimba part, which i wrote for my good colleague David Constantine for one of his performance recitals. Although there are definitely things i would do different now with the accompaniment (particularly some of my very very poor panning choices), i'm still pretty happy with it. I thought briefly about doing some video manipulation to this as i did my previous Chain Factor project, but decided against it because i don't feel like it's worth the effort, and i have another video project which in its conceptual stages is already turning out to be immensely complicated, so i'm going to focus my energies on that.

Let's Play 'Mr. Driller - Drill Spirits' Since I'm too lazy to continue playing Chrono Cross, and I was really bored, I tried out the Mr. Driller game for Nintendo DS. It works flawless, it's just that when I begin recording it can be a bit laggy sometimes... But at least it's not slow as sh*t and lags the f*ck out of the game - 'cause that would suck, eh? Driller Commodore 64 Loader Tune This is Matt Gray's epic Driller loader theme. At just under nine minutes, it's a great atmospheric tune. It borrows pretty liberally from Halloween and Phantom of the Opera, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. One of my all time favorites. The clearer audio really makes it, especially those strange percussive clicks towards the end.

In a way, Namco kinda screwed themselves over, and I think they were finally realizing it. Mr. Driller barely had any exposure [To be honest, I wouldn't have heard of it if I hadn't played the demo]. I was young, around 7, and it was a fun game to play. Besides that one game, Namco didn't really port any other games here until the mid-decade [2005], which was when Mr Driller games were being played again. I just kinda feel if Namco gave the series a chance, even if it was a small group who heard of it at the time, it would have gotten more popular.
