Portal Cake After completing Portal, I had to attempt a recreation of the cake. It's a 3-layer devil's food cake with chocolate frosting on each layer. Chocolate sprinkles on top. 8 Maraschino cherries sit on top of 8 dollops of white frosting. So delicious and moist. XD The cake is not a lie! Directions: Get 2 boxes of devil food's cake mix. Mix recipe according to the box. Pour cake batter into three 9" cake pans. Bake as directed on the box. When done, let cake cool. Take 1st cake out of pan and put choco frosting on top Put 2nd cake on top and choco frosting on top of that Put 3rd cake on top and choco frosting on top of that. Frosting the entire cake on top and sides with choco frosting. Throw some choco sprinkles or fish-shaped rhubarb on top. In a plastic sammich bag, put your white frosting and cut off the bottom corner. Squeeze the white frosting onto top of cake to make the 8 white dollops. Place 1 maraschino cherry on each of the dollops. Insert 1 white candle in the middle and light. Serve. Enjoy. Wash it all down with a tall, cool glass of sediment shaped sediment.

Whole Foods Recipe: Free Range Chicken with Goat Cheese, Olives & Sundried Tomatoes I dont think you can ever have enough chicken recipes. And yup. heres another! Ive slightly revamped this whole foods recipe from the original version that appeared on page 317 of my Gold Coast Cure book. Actually, this was one of the very first recipes my editor at HCI Books, Allison Janse, taste-tested and gave the thumbs up. Back then, Allison had twin toddlers at home and wasnt into high maintenance cooking and I remember she especially appreciated the speediness of this dish. Simple, quick, easy and tasty. What more could a busy working mom want from a chicken dish? Feel free to substitute mozzarella cheese for the goat cheese, but I like goat cheese for its tantalizingly tangy taste and for the fact its easier to digest than cows cheese. In fact, even though about 25% of the US population is lactose intolerant, most lactose intolerant individuals can still handle goat cheese. Plus, now that Ive tweaked the recipe I think the goat cheese actually is a better match than the mozzarella with the sweet sundried tomatoes and salty robust olives. Do make sure you buy the highest quality chicken though. Look for free-range chicken that has been pasture raised (as opposed to factory farmed chickens that are fed deviant diets of grain and kept cooped up in horrible cages.) Free range chickens are so much healthier than their factory farmed cousins as they have less bad pro-inflammatory saturated fat and omega-6 fat and more good anti-inflammatory omega ...
Creamy Turkey Noodle Soup This homemade soup is to die for. My youngest son always looked forward to the day AFTER Thanksgiving - anticipating this turkey recipe. Written recipe follows. The musical score is from the Prelinger Archives DreamTalkers "Twilight In Your Eyes". Creative Commons License: Open Source Audio. Recipe: Broth from turkey water for pot 3 14 ounch cans chicken broth (approx) for reconstituting. I prefer adding chicken broth rather than more water - (about 3 1/2 C or as needed) 1 lbs turkey (approx) meat from turkey carcass 1 C ea (I actually "eyeball it") of diced green onions, minced carrots, & diced mushrooms 1 C cream or half-n-half (or milk, etc) 2 large dollops of sour cream SW Spice (or chili powder, chipolte') and salt & pepper to taste Directions: Add water to large pot and add turkey carcass (bones and all) to pot. Simmer until meat falls from bone and broth forms. Cool to handle. Debone remaining meat from turkey. Return turkey broth deboned meat to stove and continue simmering adding chicken broth to reconstitute. Add vegetables and spices. Spoon in cream and sour cream. Simmer until tender and stir to combine. Before serving, add homemade noodles (see below) and cook 3 minutes more. HOMEMADE EGG NOODLES 4 whole eggs 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups flour Mix together the eggs, salt and flour until you have a stiff dough. I divide the dough in half and let it sit for about 10 minutes. How to make the World's Best Su Mais & Won Tons I teach you my Grandma Quan's Ancient Chinese recipe. Here's how to make the world's best Su Mais and Won Tons. For Large batch: 4 pounds of groud pork 4 tablespoons of oyster sauce 4 tablespoons of sesame oil 6 tablespoons of light soy sauce 6 tablespoons of cornstarch 4 tablespoons of Tapioca starch 2 large onions minced 2 tablespoons of sugar 1 teaspoon of pepper 1 cup of water 4 eggs (Use half as much for a smaller batch) 1) Mix all the above ingredient together. 2) Sprinkle salt on top of ground pork and mix. 3) Mix the ingredients really good until there are no lumps. 4) When mixing in the minced onions, make sure to knead the onions into the mix, or else the onions will clump. 5) Surprisingly, this is the same mix for Won Tons (Ser Gows) and also Sui Mais. 6) Smaller dollops for Won Tons (Ser Gows which mean water dogs). 7) Larger dollops for Su Mai. 8) For Won Tons (Ser Gows), need to steam for 18 minutes. 9) For Su Mais, need to steam for 20 minutes. 10) For Won Ton soup, use 1/2 chicken broth, 1/2 water. Add vegetables, like broccoli, gai lan, bok choy, snow peas, and/or carrots. Enjoy!

Here on my palette I've got plenty of white dollops out, a big glob of yellow, red, and blue. Let's draw that pear and make it really simple. Use circles for the base, and triangles for the top. Fill in for the highlights like so on the left and we'll put some of this white in the background. Notice how I'm letting the orange peek through. Now let's go for the darker sections using the red. Starts out just like the monochromatic doesn't it? A lot of artists do this - I know I do - that way you get your lights and darks established from the very beginning. Again, we'll go to the backside of every pear with the red. See how I'm always redrawing this with my color. I can correct all the time. Let's start adding some yellow - that will really brighten it. Again I'm using the yellow as my mid-tone using short choppy strokes to avoid blending. While I have the yellow on my brush, I'm going to pick up the white and make the table top a bright yellow. I forgot the shadow for the pears so I'm going to leave a negative shape here to remind myself to add a shadow. The painting is almost done.
