Antiques: Tiffany Dogwood Table Lamp American Indian Base 22" Tiffany Dogwood Table Lamp On American Indian Bronze Base Welcome to Fontaine's Antique Auction Gallery. We have long been known for record setting prices for fine and rare antiques. One of our many specialties is 20th century lighting including such works by Louis Comfort Tiffany of Tiffany Studios New York. Here our featured item is a 22" Tiffany Banded Dogwood Leaded Floral Table Lamp on an American Indian Bronze base. The leaded glass shade shows a geometric pattern throughout which is created by green and white Striated Glass cut to small quadrangular pieces. This pattern is shown in 8 Rows from the top (or aperture) of the shade and 3 rows from the bottom rim. The Dogwood floral pattern is featured in a banded border, stretching into the 8th geometric row from the top and the 3rd geometric row from the bottom. Each of the flowers consists of 4 pieces of opaque mottled glass depicting the petals and a 5th yellow piece in the centers. Surrounding the flowers within this border are large green leaves, showing some gray striations, and brown translucent branches, visible in 3 places. The aperture (or top opening) of the shade is 5" in diameter and the shade is 8.5" high. The lower rim, which is 22" in diameter, is edged with a ½" unusual heavy bronze border. The top of the lamp shows a reticulated spun bronze heat cap with a teardrop finial, which sits over the shade. Looking at the underside of the shade you will see that the lead work is applied just as carefully ...

Dogwood Canyon Some clips I took from my bike ride through Dogwood Canyon in Lampe, Missouri and along the Arkansas state line. The sound turned out terrible, so I dubbed over it with some nature music. I know it's a little cheesy but it sets a mood. If you're wondering the name of the song, it is called, "Arrival of Spring" by Dan Gibson from his album, "Appalachian Mountain Suite". It was very hard to ride a bike while holding a camera so it's a little shaky. So, if you're prone to motion sickness, then I would advise you not watch this.

Dogwoods from last year 2010 I wish I could give you the birds in the background, but noise pollution is beyond belief. This video was recorded just a few blocks from one of the heaviest traveled highways in East Tennessee. I don't think the dogwoods are as pretty as they were last year. Some are already turning green then others are in full bloom. In past years most of the trees were blooming in unison. I am using a JVC GZ-HM200 HD camera

The Legend of Dogwood Tree None written in the Bible, but still remaining a great legend, yet so powerful and moving, a legend that sure deserves some filming and talking about it! There is also a poem in the film. Read it, it's at the last on this description part. Dogwood tree is the national flower of North Carolina. National Tree of this state is Pine Trees. A legend says that this Dogwood tree was used to crucify Christ. There are over 50 species of this tree across the planet today blooming in various seasons with flowers of various types in size and color. None of the trees are tall enough to make a cross. Another legend goes that Christ told the tree to be small so no-one will have to go through as he did. CU Soon. :) Ruben I like asking questions on my work..... here it is for this one... Flowering Dogwood - Millie Davenport Flowering Dogwood Hi, I amMillie Davenport, a horticulture extension agent with the Clemson University Home and Garden Information Center. Today we are going to talk about one of the trees that signifies the onset of spring, the Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida. Today we are here in the South Carolina Botanical Gardens and we are looking at a Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida. This plant is native to South Carolina. And, it does put out the blossoms before the leaves. The actual bracts themselves are actually the showy white flowers; they are just modified leaves themselves. After you get the full show of the flowers then the leaves will come on after that to fill out the plant. This is typically an understory plant out in the wild. It does prefer a part shade situation which means ultimately you want some morning sun and afternoon shade in that area. It does have a shallow root system, so with any potential drought that we have in the state you really need to make sure you have mulch down around the roots to protect it. Again, you want to make sure that its only a 2-3 inch layer of mulch there to protect those roots, if you get beyond that then you can actually inhibit oxygen uptake of the roots and that can kill your plant as well. The flowering dogwood will reach 20 to 30 feet tall in your landscape and about 20 feet wide as well, so you want to make sure you have room for it. The flowering dogwood is a great tree for a specimen planting or even in mass planting in ...

Spot Anthracnose on Flowering Dogwood - James Blake Hi, Im James Blake, Director of the Clemson ExtensionHome & Garden Information Center. Today were going to talk about a disease on dogwoods known as spot anthracnose. Were in the South Carolina Botanical Garden on the campus of Clemson University beside a very large dogwood, which in some years is gorgeous with beautiful white blooms but this year it has a disease known as spot anthracnose caused by the fungus Elsinoe corni. This disease is the most common disease found on dogwoods, the flowering dogwood, Cornus florida. It starts out as very tiny spots with a reddish or purplish border. The centers can turn tan in color and then fall out in some cases. The spots on the leaves are just like the spots on the bracts. Theyre small, 1-2 mm spots, with a reddish purple border and a tan center that may drop out leaving a hole. The disease is most severe when we have high rainfall amounts as the flower buds are opening and as the leaf buds are opening. The fungus survives in the shoots and on the fruit. Then in the spring when we get the nice rainfall we get the severe disease symptoms. This year the flower bracts are very distorted because of the severe disease. The leaves are just now beginning to emerge and if we have more rainfall as they emerge the disease will be severe on these as well. Control of this disease is really hard to accomplish. In years when there is no rainfall, there is very little disease. In years like this, when we have high rainfall amounts, you need to ...

Powdery Mildew On Flowering Dogwood - James Blake POWDERY MILDEW ON FLOWERING DOGWOOD Hi, I'm James Blake, Director of the Clemson ExtensionHome & Garden Information Center. Today we're looking at powdery mildew on dogwood. We're in the South Carolina Botanical Garden on the campus of Clemson University back in front of a dogwood that we visited just six weeks ago that was severely infected with the disease known as spot anthracnose. Today it is severely infected with another disease known as powdery mildew. In the southeast, powdery mildew on dogwood is known to be caused by two different fungi, Microsphaera and Phyllactinia. There are many powdery mildew diseases on many of the different plants that we grow but they dont go back and forth across the different species. They are generally host specific. The disease gets its name from this white, powdery-like growth that is on the upper leaf surfaces and the young shoots. This white material consists of the fungus body, the mycelium, and the numerous spores that it produces that are easily spread by the wind. Young leaves with severe infection can be stunted and deformed. Older leaves may have just a purplish discoloration on the upper leaf surface. In the case of severe infection you may also see some dead spots on the leaves or some marginal browning. Early leaf drop may also occur. Favorable conditions for this disease are warm days, cool nights and high humidity. In the fall, these fungi produce over-wintering structures that survive the cold temperatures and are ...
