Rotational Chair Testing at the National Dizzy and Balance Center At NDBC clinics, we utilize the very sophisticated Neurokinetics rotational chair used by medical research faculties across the world like the Mayo Clinics, John Hopkins University Medical System, and other premier medical systems. The purpose of rotational chair testing is to determine if the vestibular (inner ear) or the neurological system is the cause of a balance disorder. When someone is turning their head, the vestibular system sends continuous signals to the brain updating it on the heads position. This causes additional signals to be sent to the muscles of the eyes via the vestibular ocular reflex (VOR). For every head movement in one direction, there is eye movement in the opposite direction. This phenomena is the basis for the rotational chair testing. Rotational chair testing can be very helpful in detecting bilateral loss (no function in both ears) of vestibular function or if there are cerebellar ocular motor abnormalities. In recent studies, many people with neurological problems or vestibular ocular reflex (VOR) have been diagnosed with the use of the rotary chair very successfully. Rotational chair testing is usually ordered in addition to ENG/VNG (caloric) testing to confirm a specific diagnosis and increase accuracy. This allows a physician to see precisely what head movement speeds are effected by the inner ear disturbance if a one is noted during the ENG/VNG testing exam. Videonystagmography (VNG eng testing) National Dizzy and Balance Center At NDBC we use Videonystagmography (VNG) technologies for testing inner ear and central motor functions. VNG testing is considered the new standard for testing inner ear functions over Electronystagmography (ENG), because VNG measures the movements of the eyes directly through infrared cameras, instead of measuring the mastoid muscles around the eyes with electrodes like the previous ENG version. VNG testing is more accurate, more consistent, and more comfortable for the patient. By having the patient more comfortable and relaxed, consistent and accurate test results are more easily achieved. VNG testing is used to determine if a vestibular (inner ear) disease may be causing a balance or dizziness problem, and is one of the only tests available today that can decipher between a unilateral (one ear) and bilateral (both ears) vestibular loss. VNG testing is a series of tests designed to document a persons ability to follow visual objects with their eyes and how well the eyes respond to information from the vestibular system. This test also addresses the functionality of each ear and if a vestibular deficit may be the cause of a dizziness or balance problem. To monitor the movements of the eyes, infrared goggles are placed around the eyes to record eye movements during testing. VNG testing is non-invasive, and only minor discomfort is felt by the patients during testing as a result of wearing goggles. Vestibular Rehabilitation Exercises for Dizziness/Balance These are exercises people can do for issues with dizziness and or imbalance. These are very effective for people who have gotten the two issues above from things like Valley Fever, etc. that have attacked the nervous system and cortex of the brain. This can not only help to relieve and take away dizziness, but help significantly improve balance and coordination, tracking with your eyes, etc. I am back doing these therapies again but before I had been doing them at a hospital and they helped me to get out of a wheelchair after significant medical issues attacked the nervous system. The cortex of my brain is being multed right now so I have to work on it and literally re-fire the nerves... its nice the body can actually do that with therapy. There is more therapies that include electrodes and things like HBOT, but this therapy is very great. However long it takes you to drink the the beer is how many spins you have to do. After completing the spins you the get the empty can whipped at you, and you have to hit it.
