Marcos Zotes: CCTV/Creative Control CCTV/Creative Control seeks to question the oppressive mechanisms and discourses implemented in the city through the temporary appropriation of public space. The intervention consists of a video projection displaying an over-sized eye onto the lower surface of the 10-storey-high Milton Street water tower in Brooklyn, New York. Still the highest point in the area, until it is dwarfed by new gentrification plans, the water tower exists as a relic of the neighbourhood's industrial past. The intervention temporarily transforms this iconic landmark into a discernible CCTV tower, raising questions of private control over public space in the urban context. CCTV/Creative Control was exhibited as part of Nuit Blanche: Bring to Light New York 2011 in Brooklyn, New York. Marcos Zotes is an architect/artist who lives and works in New York.
Radioactivity in Granite at the Cemetery Some rocks such as granite tend to have above-normal concentrations of certain radioactive elements, particularly Uranium, Thorium, (and their daughter isotopes) and Potassium-40; but not all granites are equal. Some are benign with no discernible activity (with my meter at least), while others are quite active! I live in the state of New Jersey, USA, all granite sampled here is imported from elsewhere. As a challenge to some fellow radioactive enthusiasts out there, go find some granite tombstones (during the day) and make a video response demonstrating their activity, to see if the trends of one color being hotter than the others is the same nation/worldwide, or if any kind of granite can exhibit marked radioactivity depending on location (which would have to do with where it was quarried.) If you do this, please respect the sites and do not show the names on the stones to prevent targeting from vandals, and definitely do not take any pieces of the stones with you! However if you find a wild granite outcropping somewhere, then go right ahead lol.

Driving Through an Intense Floridian Rain Storm- Ocala National Forest The black storm clouds had been swirling around overhead for about 45 minutes when nature finally decided to let me have it: a deluge lasting about 15 minutes as I drove westward through the Ocala National Forest on St Rt 40. What could ordinarily be driven at 65 mph was reduced to 30 mph as the sheets of rain beat down upon my car. Not much is discernible in the video aside from the vehicle in front of me on the road (which appears to be attempting to navigate through the rain without headlights on!). At 2:44 into the video, the vehicle in front of me makes a right turn into the Juniper Run State Park Entrance. It's about the only discernible point of reference visible in the video. The frequent sudden bursts of bright light are the surrounding lightning flashes.

Crystal Castles : Courtship Dating [ official ] There's something paradoxically comforting about Crystal Castles' spooky electro skree. The lo-fi blips and bleeps of tracks like "Courtship Dating" are, after all, the sounds of an entire generation's video-game innocence, no matter the neighing screams or gothy moodiness that envelop them here. For all the Knife-like dehumanizing vocal effects producer/multi-instrumentalist Ethan Fawn uses to render Alice Glass's shrill, affectless vocals occasionally incomprehensible, the Toronto duo are generous with melodic hooks on this one. And what lyrics are discernible suggest Glass is singing a tale as old as time: "How do I feel for thee?" Song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the "Altered Beast". Directed by Marc Pannozzo, the video for "Courtship Dating" wisely focuses on Crystal Castles' dual personalities, in all senses of that phrase. The scene is shrouded in darkness, with strobe-like effects coming up whenever we see Fawn. But the focus is Glass, toying with her hoodie and singing from the night into the flashing light. It's both bleakly atmospheric and, since there's little to see here other than two people, approachably, if a bit disturbingly, human. Heard Crystal Castles playing in a record store halfway across the world last week, and all that death- and savagery-ridden 8-bit electro-slash suddenly felt like home.

However, along the way the trip becomes a suicide journey of self-discovery, and the girls come to find that their true enemy was the dragon all along. Also, What's-her-name tags along and she's yellow like nobody's business. Finally, I come to terms with the fact that my video editing software would be really good if it weren't sort of terrible for complex editing projects. I had a lot of issues with editing this episode and I realize I've basically pushed my software to its limits. The result was a lot of crashing, one whole set of lines that wound up a little out of synch with the animation, a tenth of a second that was deleted for no discernible reason, and sometimes Twilight changed colors inexplicably. In the near future, when finances make it possible, it will be time to upgrade.

Originally, stereogram referred to a pair of stereo images which could be viewed using a stereoscope. Other types of stereograms include anaglyphs and autostereograms. The stereogram was discovered by Charles Wheatstone in 1838. He found an explanation of binocular vision which led him to construct a stereoscope based on a combination of prisms and mirrors to allow a person to see 3D images from two 2D pictures. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. invented an improved form of stereoscope in 1861, which had no mirrors and was inexpensive to produce. These stereoscopes were immensely popular for decades. Stereograms were re-popularized by the creation of autostereograms on computers, wherein a 3D image is hidden in a single 2D image, until the viewer focuses the eyes correctly. The Magic Eye series is a popular example of this. Magic Eye books refer to autostereograms as stereograms, leading most people to believe that the word stereogram is synonymous with autostereogram. Vado HD Review w/ Tips and Tricks Note regarding the audio quality: I just shot some footage of a backyard band and I'm impressed with the audio. Usually when you see footage of live bands, the audio is badly distorted and sounds horrible. But this sounds pretty good, especially considering how small the mic is. That static sound still comes and goes but it's barely discernible. I'm sure they designed the Vado HD's mic so people could use it to tape live concerts.
