Diplomatic Siege During the Cold war, The United States hid atomic weapons in US Embassies around the world to protect against possible attacks. Now that America's former enemies are allies, the bombs must be disarmed. Enter Steve Parker (Peter Weller), a computer expert sent to Romania to disable the bomb. What he didn't expect to find was Erica Long (Daryl Hannah), an old flame and fellow government agent sent to help him. As old sparks re-ignite, the two find themselves in the middle of a violent takeover of the Embassy by terrorists. Thirty-seven people are taken hostage, along with Steve's stepson Chris. When the terrorists begin killing hostages, General buck Swain (Tom Beringer) is called in to spearhead the rescue operation and prevent the bomb from falling into the wrong hands. The fact that he doesn't even know it exists is going to make his job that much harder.

Cultural Diplomacy August 2009: Berlin, Germany: The world is going soft. The 2009 International Symposium of Cultural Diplomacy, hosted by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD), brought together a diverse group of participants from around the world for a week long series of lectures, panel discussions, and social events to explore the role of soft power in contemporary international relations. Soft power, as the term implies, refers to the practice of gaining co-operation by means of attraction as opposed to coercion, or payment. This years themes encompassed the use of art and culture as vehicles of national foreign policy and the influence of the private sector in the generation and application of soft power. Diplomatic cable leak upsets the US The whistleblower website WikiLeaks has released scores of electronic cables sent between headquarters in Washington and embassies and consulates around the world. The leaked documents include confidential views about major allies and partners, including worries about security at a Pakistan nuclear facility and concerns about alleged links between the Russian government and the mafia. The White House has condemned media's publication of the cables, saying it puts diplomats and intelligence professionals at risk. Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington.

Afghanistan's president awaits new US diplomacy - Feb 14 09 Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, has told Al Jazeera he's been waiting for a month to hear from the new US administration of President Barack Obama. Karzai said the two countries were engaged in a "gentle wrestling match", as Obama's White House pledged to fight on in Afghanistan with or without Karzai's help.
