Anamorphic Sigma 17-35 AIS Flare performance Hacked GH2 +.25 Diopter From my recent video: Music is the ff Cid Theme remixed by me with EWQLSO This is test of flare performance of the Sigma 17-35 AIS with the LA7200 Panasonic 1.33x anamorphic adapter with the .25 Diopter between the lenses. The lens likes to make large starbursts when faced with several stops of overexposure, this combined with an anamorphic flare gives a very interesting result.
Mounting a Precision Riflescope, Diopter focusing, and Zeroing Parallax.wmv This somewhat lengthy video, describes what I feel is the most user friendly method of professionally mounting a precision rifle scope to a tactical rifle. Tactical in this sense implying one that has a Picatinny base or rail to mount to. These bases should really become standard on both tactical and sporting firearms, because they are simple, durable and dependable. Toward the very end of the video I cover Diopter and parallax focusing methods. Leupold factory torque specs for the MKIV rings as far as I know are 15-17 inch lbs for 8x32 ring half screws and 65 inch lbs for the picatinny railgrabber nuts. I used 21 inch lbs because I feel it inspires a little more confidence, and because I have seen 65in/lb wrenches used on the 8x32 screws without screw failure and without damage to Leupold optics. This suggests to me that 21 in/lbs is well within the realm of safe stress loads for these screws.

Quick Test with AG-LA7200G & Foton-A Diopter on a 5D Mark II This is a very quick test of the Panasonic AG-LA7200G anamorphic adapter at different focal lengths and aperture on a Canon 5D Mark II. I also tested the Foton-A 1m diopter in front of the anamorphic adapter to see any improvements in sharpness, if any at all (after reading the articles on the EOSHD website). The diopter was purchased from "rafcamera" on eBay. After seeing the initial test shots, I first thought that the ruler was out of focus, so I double-checked and even triple-checked with the 10x zoom on live view. But the measurement lines on the center of the ruler did not get any better no matter which way I turned. This seems to be the best that the AG-LA7200G can do on a 5D Mark II, especially with longer focal lengths and large apertures. But with the Foton-A diopter, I can actually see the little ruler lines, even at f/1.4 on any of the focal lengths tested. One major caveat with the 1-meter diopter; the MAXIMUM focusing distance is now at 1 meter only, meaning I cannot focus to infinity or even past 1 meter :-( Edited with Sony Vegas 10 with no grading or enhancements at all Lenses used: - Panasonic AG-LA7200G anamorphic adapter - Foton-A 1m diopter - Tair-11A 135mm f/2.8 with M42-to-EOS adapter - Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 for Canon - SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4 with PK-to-EOS adapter - Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II

What is a diopter? What is a diopter? Many of us heard someone ask a question like: "Are your glasses with a plus or a minus?" However, often people don't realise that this question could be put in a different way. For instance: "What is the focal power of your glasses? Is it positive or negative?"As you know, all lenses, whether focusing or divergent, have a certain focal power. This is a very important parameter. The value is positive for focusing lenses. And it is negative for divergent ones. Short-sightedness requires glasses with divergent lenses. Far-sightedness, on the contrary, requires focusing lenses. A "minus" means the person has myopia. And vice versa, a person wearing glasses with a "plus" has hypermetropia. But there must be some quantitative value behind these pluses and minuses. You are absolutely right. These parameters are measured in units called dioptres.Dioptre is a unit used for measuring focal power of lenses or spherical mirrors with focal length of 1 meter. The Swedish ophthalmologist Alvar Gulstrand was the first one to introduce this unit. Optical power expressed in dioptres equals the reciprocal value of focal length expressed in metres. Thus the greater the value expressed in dioptres, the shorter the focal length. In the context of glasses, this means a more severe degree of myopia or hypermetropia.

SETTING A BIRDING BINOCUALAR DIOPTER Quick and easy tutorial on how to focus any pair of binocs with a diopter.
Diopter Tests on a Soligor Anamorphic Lens This is a really boring test, yielding interesting results :). Anamorphic lenses usually don't focus very close, and most aren't really sharp, or even get fuzzy at apertures wider than f=5.6 or with longer focal length lenses. Diopters not only help focusing closer, but they also improve the overall image sharpness making it possible to use the anamorphic at wider apertures for a narrow dof and with longer focal lengths. This is a sharpness test using a focus through Soligor anamorphot (similar to the Century optics and the Panasonic LA7200). This type of lenses are great for shooting stopped down and with a wide angle lens to get cinemascope deep focus wide shots. But image can get blurry when you want to focus closer, shoot with an 85mm lens or open up the aperture to get shallow dof. By using alternatively, or combining a +0.4 Tokina achromatic doublet and a set of low price diopters +1 and +2 I have been able to get quite sharp focus even wide open. I think this is impressive considering this is not Isco glass! What seems to work best is to use a +1 diopter on top of the +0.4 (the achromat is always desirable to reduce chromatic aberrations), although I find that, on a budget, the +1 alone is not bad on a 50mm lens. I don't have a test chart, so this is only a book shelf and the Sound After by Mind Things. Let me know what you think.
$60 LCD Viewfinder with diopter & flip up Review Buy link: Overall a great find, if the construction holds up it's a winner. The flip up design is what really sold me on this vs competitors, i don't really need a diopter but still it's nice to have. and the optics look quite good along with edge to edge view-ability of the LCD. You will get fogging but as you can see i poked a hole at the bottom to help with air circulation. I will likely just buy some anti fog spray to seal the issue.

Canon 40D - Marking the Diopter Adjustment Knob I had a problem seeing the index mark on the Diopter Adjustment Dial of my Canon 40D. The Diopter Adjustment Dial is located behind the Viewfinder's Eyecup but it is still visible and accessible with the eyecup in place. The small diopter adjustment dial would sometime shift while carrying the camera in my camera bag. I have also accidentally moved its position while simply handling the camera. The tiny index mark on the diopter adjustment dial is too difficult to see for me to check its current setting. In this video I show you how I solved this problem. Using a toothpick, I painted a small white dot of Nail Polish Enamel Paint on the dial's index mark. It is now very easy for me to see if the dial has rotated out of position and quickly re-adjust it. And I can verify that my 40D diopter adjustment dial is set correctly just by looking at the position of the white dot against the dioptric scale on the camera body. Painting a white dot on the index mark should work for any camera with a solid black diopter adjustment dial. IMPORTANT: Test the Nail Polish Paint by placing several dots of paint on a piece of scrap plastic so you can practice your painting technique and also to see how your paint flows off of the toothpick. Figure out just how much or how little paint you need on the end of the toothpick to make the right sized dot. You do not want to get any between the adjustment dial the the camera body. If you do make a mess quickly remove the screw from the center of ...

Round flask + water + sun = Spherical Diopter = Dangerously powerfull solar concentrator Round flask, as lab round bottom flask, or even fish bol, when fill with water or other liquid create what is call in optic a spherical diopter. The diopter as a focal point were all the ligth received is concentrated in a very small surface on the opposite side. This is of course usefull for concentrating the ligth from sun as seen in the video. But it should be kept in mind that is also a danger. If it is occured spontaneously, without control or suppervision, it can start a fire.
How To Set Up Your Camera's Diopter When you press the shutter button and your autofocus snaps in, does the image you're seeing look out of focus? Your camera's viewfinder has an adjustable dioptre so you can make it match your eyesight. So if what you're seeing through the viewfinder looks out of focus the diopter probably needs setting up. When setting the diopter do it with your glasses off. When you're looking through a camera's viewfinder your're seeing something equivalent to about 1.5 metres away regardless of if you're shooting macro or something on the horizon. I don't know why or the clever physics of this - it's just the way it is. So all you're doing is adjusting magnification of the viewfinder for 1.5 metres, for your personal prescription. If you're both long and short sighted I'm sorry but you'll still need your glasses to read the camera settings, menus etc - but at least you won't have them in the way when you're composing a photo. Once you've set up your camera's diopter it makes life a whole lot easier because you won't need to wear your glasses when looking through the viewfinder, and it's really simple and quick to do. All you need is a road sign, a tripod and your camera. We have loads more great photography tuition videos available for you at www.photographycourses.biz so please come and watch some soon. I know we spell it dioptre in the UK - but strangely more people search for a diopter!
