Those refugees who are unable to find work, meanwhile, are mostly being held in jails or detention centres. Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports from Tel Aviv.

Pamela Izevbekhai and daughters deported €1m legal bill after Pamela and girls finally deported THE Government and five legal teams that represented failed asylum seeker Pamela Izevbekhai have been left with "staggering" legal bills totalling more than €1m that will never be repaid. The Nigerian mother's controversial six-year legal battle to stop her deportation ended yesterday when she was arrested at 1.30am and, with her two daughters, Naomi (10) and Jemima (9), placed on a 6am flight out of Dublin Airport to Amsterdam. The State has been left with a legal bill of €370000 for defending the case in the High Court, Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. Ms Izevbekhai's own legal bill, which her fifth and final solicitor Matthew Ezeani admitted would never be paid, is estimated to be in excess of €700000, bringing the entire cost of the case to more than €1m. There is no prospect of the State or any party recovering any of the costs amassed over more than two dozen court hearings. The Department of Justice last night said it did not intend to reform the system to prevent a repeat of the Izevbekhai case. Investigations It said fraud was usually weeded out in the early stages of refugee investigations and insisted that the burden of proof to establish asylum status lies at all times with the person seeking it. Ms Izevbekhai and her daughters arrived in Nigeria last night after they were transferred to an afternoon flight to Lagos from Amsterdam. She was staying at Globe House, an asylum centre in ...

18 year-old Durham resident Fausto Palma-Guifarro faces deportation from WRAL: Durham, NC — A statewide Latino advocacy group and members of the community rallied Tuesday afternoon to stop the deportation of a Durham ***. On Thursday, Palma-Guifarro will report to the ICE office in Charlotte, where he could be sent back to Honduras or receive a deferred action. Palma-Guifarro said he came to the United States when he was 12 to reunite with his mother who he had not seen since he was 6 years old and to escape gang violence. He participated in the act of nonviolent civil disobedience one day after he received a letter from President Obama rejecting his proposal to suspend deportations of undocumented college students with clean criminal records. "I thought for one moment, I should have my hands clasped together with handcuffs and taken away to bring attention and to say, I denounce [Obama's immigration] policy that is immoral," Gutierrez says in an interview on Democracy Now! July 29. "Right now the Republicans are leading in their anti-immigrant, xenophobic march both in the House and Senate. With the same vigor that they lead against us with hatred and bigotry, we want [Obama] to stand up with the same energy for us." Iraq's Government to Deport Foreign Workers For more news visit ☛ Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ me.lt The Iraqi government plans to deport thousands of illegal foreign workers who sought employment in the country after the 2003 US-led invasion. But many employers are critical of the government's crackdown. Life as a migrant worker in Iraq could come to an abrupt end for thousands after the government's decision to start deporting foreign workers. With the official unemployment rate at 15 percent and another 28 percent in part-time jobs, their aim is to create more job opportunities for Iraqis as their country rebuilds after years of war. [Hossni Ahmed, Legal Consultant, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs]: "Unemployment rate is very high. Priority should be given to the national laborer. Therefore, we agreed to act on laws and the most important one is the residential law No.118 of 1968." The government says the decision will not have an effect on the local labor market because most of the foreign workers are unskilled workers. Thousands of foreigners, mainly from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and some African nations, work as cleaners and laborers in restaurants, shops, hospitals and hotels. [Fairouz Jubidali, Bangladeshi Worker]: "I should work here for the next two years and Iraq is good. I have a good job and I get good pay... and then I will go back to Bangladesh." But some say deporting foreign workers will not solve the unemployment issue. [Ibrahim Jameel, Shop ...

Obama Cancels Deportation Of Illegals - Alex Jones Tv Bowing to pressure from immigrant rights activists, the Obama administration said Thursday that it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria, such as attending school, having family in the military or having primary responsible for other family members' care. The move marks a major step for President Obama, who for months has said he does not have broad categorical authority to halt deportations and said he must follow the laws as Congress has written them. But in letters to Congress on Thursday, Homeland Security SecretaryJanet Napolitano said she does have discretion to focus on "priorities" and that her department and the Justice Department will review all ongoing cases to see who meets the new criteria. "This case-by-case approach will enhance public safety," she said. "Immigration judges will be able to more swiftly adjudicate high-priority cases, such as those involving convicted felons."
