USS Green Bay LPD20, 02/2011 Deployment This video is for the families of those who are on this ship. Anyone's supportive comments are welcome! Three San Diego-based warships departed February 22 for a seven-month deployment that includes anti-piracy operations, a job made all the more crucial following the tragic shooting deaths of four Americans on a hijacked yacht off Somalia. The USS Boxer, an 844-foot amphibious assault ship, the USS Green Bay (shown here), an amphibious transport dock, and USS Comstock, an amphibious dock landing ship, left with 1800 sailors for the western Pacific Ocean and waters off the Middle East. Videos of the USS Comstock and USS Boxer are available at my YouTube channel, TallSky. In this video you will notice the Marines and Sailors side by side as they man the rails, aboard the USS Green Bay. On board the ships are 2200 Marines from Camp Pendleton's 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Their mission -- to provide humanitarian aid, support operations overseas and combat piracy. The four boaters captured by pirates on Friday were shot and killed by their captors early today while negotiations were under way for their release. Jean and Scott Adam, who often docked in Marina del Rey, and another couple from Washington state were aboard the 58-foot Quest. The 13th MEU, also known as the "Fighting 13," was the first Marine unit to take action in Iraq in 1990, boarding two Iraqi tankers whose crew violated United Nations sanctions. Thank you for supporting these service men and women, who ...

Introduction to Windows Deployment Services [6 Min ] Last week I popped into Adam's office to ask about Windows Deployment Services which is a feature that is built into Windows Server 2008. He showed me a quick 6 minute demo which shows how you can easily deploy operating systems to many desktops over the network without having to be physically present at each computer and without having to install CD media on each machine. As you can see, Adam needs to clean his monitor a little. Post any technical questions on the post and I will help answer them. More details on Windows Deployment Services can be found at technet2

James Webb Space Telescope Successor to Hubble Like Hubble, the JWST will be used by the astronomy community to observe targets that range from objects within our Solar System to the most remote galaxies, which are seen during their formation in the early universe. This major facility-class space observatory will be launched in 2013. JWST is a joint mission of NASA, ESA, and the Canadian Space Agency. The mission concept is for a large filled-aperture telescope located 1.5 million km from Earth at the L2 Lagrangian point.

Win7 Deployment Part 2 - Use WAIK to Acquire WIM Image This is Part 2 of the Windows 7 Deployment Series. Let's now take a look at how to use WAIK to acquire an image of a Windows 7 machine and store it in the Windows Imaging Format or WIM. For this we will need the WinPE boot CD that we created in part 1

Win7 Deployment Part 4 - Use MDT to Acquire WIM Image In Part 4 of this series, we will now take a look at how to acquire a WIM image, this time using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010. To do this, we use the Deployment Workbench to create a SYSPREP AND CAPTURE task sequence, then run the Deployment Wizard from the Deployment Share.

Ice-Tethered Profiler Deployment WHOI researchers deploy a new instrument, an Ice-Tethered Profiler (ITP). The ITP has a small yellow surface capsule that dangles an anchored 800-meter (2265-foot) line through a hole in an ice floe. An instrument travels up and down the line daily, measuring water pressure, temperature, and salinity. Data are transmitted via satellite to WHOI, along with a GPS location of the instrument on the drifting floe. The ITP has enough battery power to last for three years, barring a breakup of the ice floe or polar bear vandalism.

US veterans lobby against Afghan deployment - 28 Nov 09 While most US war veterans tend to be supportive of their country's military operations abroad, some have been voicing their opposition to any escalation. For weeks, Washington has been debating whether to send more troops to Afghanistan but a growing number of veterans are lobbying US politicians against a new war strategy for Afghanistan that Barack Obama, the US president, is expected to deliver on Tuesday. While the budget for Obama's military plan would need final approval from the US congress, many veterans are hoping for an outcome that will cost fewer lives and mean fewer men going to war. Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.

Iron Dome: Operational Deployment in Southern Israel Yesterday, an additional Iron Dome anti-missile battery was deployed in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. An initial battery was deployed last week in the southern city of Be'er Sheva. The Iron Dome active defense system's recent deployment comes as a response to the recent barrage of Grad missiles, Qassam rockets, and mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip which hit Israel, injuring civilians and terrorizing thousands. The Iron Dome system will intercept such rockets before they hit inside Israeli territory. Currently, the Israeli Air Force is testing the system's effectiveness after being deployed in the field as a final stage before being put to operational use. The Iron Dome will provide part of the solution to rocket fire targeting southern communities, and it will be mobile, allowing the system to rotate among cities.

Dynamic GlobalRDSS - Rapid Deployment Shelter System For over 30 years, tech transfer projects have been a way of life for the DyHold management team. Acquired from the Department of Energy and new for 2011, we are proud to introduce the Dynamic Global RDSS or Rapid Deployment Shelter System. Designed and manufactured as a compact, highly portable system that can be fully deployed by ONE person in less than two minutes. The RDSS is an advanced concept rigid-wall shelter technology that requires less time and manpower to deploy than any other rigid-wall shelter on the market. With the touch of a button, the RDSS unfolds from a 20 foot, International Standards Organization, or ISO, shipping container into a four hundred square foot shelter. RDSS is equipped with an on-board generator, and heating and air conditioning systems that can provide up to 72 hours of continuous operation, without refueling, within minutes of delivery. In addition, seamless transition from on-board generator to off board power and support requires only the flip of a switch once local power is restored. Domestically and globally, currently fielded shelter systems present a financial and logistics nightmare. Most rigid-walled shelters are labor and time intensive, requiring three to ten people and nearly 40 minutes to set up. Experience has shown that travel trailers and mobile homes are cumbersome and simply not designed for transport into disaster areas. Unlike travel trailers, the Dynamic Global RDSS has been engineered specifically for critical area ...
