Java on a 1000 Cores - Tales of Hardware / Software CoDesign Google Tech Talk August 12, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by Cliff Click, Azul Systems. Azul Systems designs and builds systems for running business logic applications written in Java. Unlike scientific computing, business logic code tends to be very large and complex (greater than 1MLOC is common), display very irregular data access patterns, and make heavy use of threads and locks. The common unit of parallelism is the transaction or thread-level task. Business logic programs tend to have high allocation rates which scale up with the amount of work accomplished, and they are sensitive to Garbage Collection max-pause-times. Typical JVM implementations for heaps greater than 4 Gigabytes have unacceptable pause times and this forces many applications to run clustered. Our systems support heaps up to 600 Gigabytes and allocation rates up to 35 Gig/s with pause times in the dozen-millisecond range. We have large core counts (up to 864) for running parallel tasks; our memory is Uniform Memory Access (as opposed to the more common NUMA), cache-coherent, and has supercomputer-level bandwidth. The cores are our own design; simple 3-address RISCs with read- & write-barriers to support GC, hardware transactional memory, zero-cost high-rez profiling, and some more modest Java-specific tweaks. Intel 80-Core Teraflop Research Chip Advancing Multi-Core Technology into the Tera-scale Era The Teraflops Research Chip is the latest development from the Intel® Tera-scale Computing Research Program. This chip is Intel's first silicon tera-scale research prototype. It is the first programmable chip to deliver more than one trillion floating point operations per second (1 Teraflops) of performance while consuming very little power. This research project focuses on exploring new, energy--efficient designs for future multi--core chips, as well as approaches to interconnect and core--to--core communications. HHO Swiss Inox 3d Seven Cores Cell and GOOD production This 3d cell took 25h of work. The outer (positive) tubes are 2mm thick and 42.4 mm diameter 316L stainless steel then there are 3 inner nutral tubes and the last smallest tube is 17 mm in diameter and is the negative pole and takes the electricity from the bottom up while the positive enters at the top down. I did mark the tubes with an arrow while cutting them and then assembled them with all the arrows looking upward. For lack of time I did not do any cleaning yet, I had no proper connections and I used a well water with high conductivity values and one tea spoon of backing soda for 1 gallon of water. Next thing I will do is to build a container and perfect connections and test the unit with some acceptable electrical equipment and usable indications about production and electricity consumpion

One of the major differences between dual core and dual processor is that one shares system resources while the other one has its own resources. Dual core processors have two cores on the same processor while dual processors are two physical processors. Dual core is popular lately since it's a low cost option for most people whereas dual processors are more expensive. Software wise, all this depends on whether your software supports multi-threading. Most major programs do not support multi-threading yet (like most games) but the support is slowly coming to fruition. There is also the possibility of a combination of dual cores and dual processors. For example, the newer Mac Pros have 4 cores (quad core) and you can buy a single quad-core or a dual quad-core (for a total of 8 cores). Magnetite Cores Demonstration of making magneitite cores. Robert Adams and others have claimed magnitite cores made thier motors more efficient. I am not claiming that yet for I havnt done any tests to prove that yet, however i can tell you that they seem to make a weaker electromagnet and are less attracted by magnets that than typical silicon-steel cores. Im going to try and update this as i make new findings. 1/30/2009 The lindemann attraction rotor i was working on is not going to work with magnetite. The coils magnetic field is to weak for that. It also preformed poorly with my magnet rotor until i discovered something. I was using weak ceramic magnets, the type bedini suggests. They attract very little and repel very little to magnetite. However, i tried some strong neodymium magnets and it preformed very well. Neo magnets on the rotor are the way to go with magnetite.

AMD OpenCL multi-core CPU demo at Siggraph Asia 2008 The first public demonstration of OpenCL functionality was by AMD's FirePro / Firestream team at Siggraph Asia 2008. The particle & fluid simulation shows how OpenCL can extract high performance parallel computing out of GPUs, DSPs and multicore CPUs. Basically the idea is that you can write up your core computational code in OpenCL and suddenly you scale to whatever processors are available. Understanding the physical structure of the firn and the gases trapped in it, is essential to properly interpreting the ice core record, and understanding what cores reveal about Earth's past climate. As Jeff Severinghaus says, with a more accurate understanding of snow, firn and ice you can take climate data from ice cores "to the bank" - such as the fact that sometimes Earth's climate can jump 18 degrees F in just a decade - and make more accurate predictions of the future.
