  • Toto Olivera Part 3: Conus Peptide Genes a "Drug Development Program" Lecture Overview Although snails are not the first animals that come to mind when venoms are mentioned, there are in fact a large number (~10000 species) of different venomous predatory snails. The most intensively studied of these are the cone snails (Conus), which have a large number of peptide neurotoxins present in their venoms. Some cone snail venoms are lethal to man; one species causes a 70% fatality rate. How these venoms have been used to understand the nervous system, and how the characterization of the components of the venom have led to the development of drugs is the subject of Olivera's lecture. The biology of the snails, including how some cone snails catch fish, is correlated with the venom chemistry.

  • Heifetz Plays Conus Movement 1 Part 1 So rare and out of print, I understand Mr. Heifetz had a hand in writing and/or editing this piece. I fell in love with this concerto when I first heard it and I remember thinking I didn't know he could play like that, it's the first time I heard him play with a beautiful sound as I don't usually like his fast and narrow vibrato. Somehow this recording is different to me than all other Heifetz recordings not because it is played well and in tune because he always is good for that but for the first time I could actually feel what he is playing for some reason. It's what is between the notes that matters the most in addition to a clean well-executed performance. I have a recording by Perlman that I will upload eventually that is also hard to find and out of print so subscribe to my videos to keep up with all the latest... I have uploaded rare out of print and unreleased recordings that are difficult to find, I hope you like them.
