The Contours - Running In Circles This was the second single that we released by The Contours on the Motorcity label, and considering it was recorded in 1989, I think it's held up remarkably well. The Contours were one of the earliest Motown groups, coming hot on the heels of The Miracles and The Satintones. Founded by Joe Billingslea and joined soon after by Sylvester Potts, the group has endured for nearly fifty years, with their fiftieth anniversary coming up in 2009. Until recently Joe and Sylvester have been the mainstay of the group, with others changing lineup over the years, especially the lead singers, including Billy Gordon, Joe Stubbs, Dennis Edwards, and Daryl Nunlee, but always Joe Billingslea and Sylvester remained, which is why I find it so painful to learn that now they've gone their separate ways. and are running separate groups. Their first record on Motown was "Whole Lot Of Woman" in 1959, and in the early 1960s, they stole those old Motortown Revues at The Apollo Theatre in New York, with their spins and backdrops, something later adapted and adopted by the Northern Soul scene. Their biggest hit was "Do You Love Me", which was an even bigger hit in 1987 when it was featured in the Patrick Swayze film, "Dirty Dancing". But having said that, it was always for those joyous, stomping, mid Sixties classics, that England, and in particular the Northern Soul scene, hero worshipped the group - 'Just A Little Misunderstanding", "It's So Hard Being A Loser", and "Baby Hit And Run" in particular ...

The Contours - Do You Love Me (1988 Version) Re-release from "More Dirty Dancing". I was surprised nobody else had uploaded this. I tried to find a version that was of decent quality. Question:Who IS that DORK at the beginning of the video who lip synchs the opening line, and some of the words at random points in the video? They couldn't get The Contours to appear in the video? The least they could've done was use some old footage of them playing the song! There should be an old "Top of the Pops" clip of them or something.

'Just a little misunderstanding' Contours..Powell..Astaire. Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire to the Contours 1966 Twisted Wheel classic. It's a cold man to hurt his woman And watch her walk away crying When all along, he knows he's wrong To be so hard on a woman that's trying I was so unkind to hurt you so Going out of my mind I just gotta let you know.. Baby, I can't let you go I realize I hurt you so Our love, surely can be mended It's just a little misunderstanding I remember you said You would always care Until death should we be apart. Then it surely must be .. my destiny To die the death of a broken heart So before I become, a wandering rover Let's get together Talk this thing over. Baby, I can't let you go I realize I hurt you so Our love, surely can be mended It's just a little misunderstanding. That's all it is. We've been loving so long .. that it just seems wrong. that our love could never be Be anywhere .. baby, I wouldn't care If I thought that you needed me. All the chains in the world Cant hold me .. cant hold me Like a robot your love controls me .. Baby ..... TheTwisted Wheel is a non commercial, interest site only. Contours. First I look at the purse. Nicholas brothers. The Nicholas brothers dance. Contours 'First I look at the purse' lyrics: What does every man look at first? Some fellas look at the eyes Some fellas look at the nose Some fellas look at the size Some fellas look at the clothes I don't care if her eyes are red I don't care if her nose is long I don't care if she's underfed I don't care if her clothes are wrong Why? 'cause first I look at the purse! Some fellas look at the smile they wear Some fellas look at the legs that's all Some fellas look at the style of their hair Some fellas want the waist to be small. I don't care if the teeth are big I don't care if the legs are thin I don't care if her hair is a wig Why waste time lookin' at the waistline? Why? 'cause first I look at the purse! A woman can be as fine as can be, with kisses sweet as honey But that don't mean a thing to me If she ain't got no money 'cause if the purse is fat....that's where it's at. Some fellas look at the way they walk The way they swing and sway Some fellas like the way they talk and dig the things they say. But I don't care if she wobbles like a duck and talks with a lisp I still think I'm in good luck if the dollar bills are crisp Why?..cause first I look at the purse! First I look at the purse! Tried to tell you. yeah yeah yeah kisses can be sweet as honey But I want me some money She can be covered with a rash Long as she's got some cash. I want a big fine car I don't want one suit Like a Hollywood star. TheTwisted wheel is a non commercial ...

The Contours - Do You love Me PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: The Contours are widely remembered for their 1962 smash "Do You Love Me?," one of the early hits that helped put Motown on the map. Yet they aren't always associated with their contribution to the label; they were one of the roughest, hardest R&B groups Berry Gordy ever signed, and their sound simply didn't resemble the smooth, sophisticated blueprint that later became Motown's trademark. Nor did their stage presence; in contrast to the slick choreography and wardrobe of Motown's signature artists, the Contours were all wild, irrepressible energy, leaping and sliding all over the stage and even doing the splits. As a result, they fell out of favor once Motown got its crossover-friendly hit factory up and running, and never duplicated the success of their first hit. Formed in Detroit in 1958, the Contours originally began life as a quartet called the Blenders. Lead singer Billy Gordon, Billy Hogg, Sylvester Potts, and Joe Billingslea were soon joined by Hubert Johnson, a cousin of the legendary Jackie Wilson, as well as guitarist Huey Davis. Changing their name to the Contours, the group landed an audition with Berry Gordy's fledgling Motown label. Gordy was not impressed and told them to try again in a year, and they enlisted Jackie Wilson's aid in honing their act. Wilson ...
